I can't say enough good things about Ruppel's. Ken, the owner, is absolutely amazing -- the kind of experienced, honest, and thoughtful auto repair professional I always hoped to find. He consistently goes above and beyond, and I always feel completely confident bringing my car to him. If something is wrong, even if it's not what I originally came in for, he'll find it and make sure I'm safe. Perfect example: I once went in for a simple oil change, and he noticed someone had stolen my registration sticker. Another time, we bought my aunt's car that had been sitting for a while and the air conditioning didn't work -- Ken found a squirrel nest clogging the system! When my car has made strange noises, he always checks it out, reassures me when it's nothing, and never charges me unnecessarily. He gently explains anything I don't understand, never talks down to me, and always makes sure I leave feeling informed and taken care of. This is exactly the kind of trustworthy, friendly, skilled auto repair shop everyone hopes to find. I've been coming to Ruppel's for six years, and honestly, I don't know what I'll do if Ken ever retires. Thank goodness he's alive and well in Burlingame. Highest recommendations. Thank you, Ken! read more

I had to have my brakes done. Ken is always so kind, professional and EXTREMELY REASONABLE!!! Ken will tell you exactly what you need (and don't need) so he's never trying g to upsell like many of his competitors or the dealership!!! He is a really good mechanic! I highly recommend Ruppel's Auto Fixation and Ken!!! read more

An honest and respectful auto repair shops? Yes! Here is a business that takes pride in their work and is friendly as well. Finally, I've found a mechanic that is honest, fair and quick. In life you really need to know a good lawyer, accountant and auto mechanic. I've been searching for the right mechanic for decades and I've finally found him--Ken at Ruppel's Auto Fixation. Ken, I want to give you a great big hug right now. This place is inconvenient for me, because I live in Sunnyvale--but Ruppel's is worth the drive. Honest mechanics exist! Yeah! The search is over. I'll never take my car anywhere else. Ken has earned my business forever. The guys at Ruppel's really know what they are doing. Two friends swear by this place, but I've never taken their advice before because it's not a convenient location for me. But--the auto shop is spitting distance from the CalTrain, so I can drop off my car and take the train. I can't believe that this mechanic shop has been here for decades and no one has Yelped it. This is the best mechanic I've ever found and I've been through dozens of mechanics. Go here yesterday. read more

My tire had a slow leak and not only did Ken fix it the same day, he did it for free! Absolutely unbelievable service!

It's the little things like the news letter they send monthly and and the thank you mints I found in the car when I went to pick it up after maintenance. They seem very honest and caring. If only all the shops had that personal touch. Thank you! read more

I used to work close by, and Ken and his team came highly recommended by family when I first bought a car. Although I now have to drive 30 minutes to drop my car of at Ruppel's, it is worth every minute. They provide honest, respectful advice and charge fair prices (and never upsell me on services). As a new car owner with a lot of newbie questions, Ken never makes me feel like an idiot. These guys are golden - that's all there is to it! read more

Ruppel's is where I take my car (Mini Cooper) before going anywhere else. I have gone in for oil changes, brake replacements, check-engine lights, strange vehicle electrical problems, and more. Ken has never steered me wrong (no pun intended), and I trust his judgment. He provides honest diagnoses, does not try to upsell unnecessary work, clearly explains the work that was completed, and offers advice about things to watch for in the future. If he and his team can't identify or fix the problem, which is rare, he will advise me to whom I should take the car. If you call to ask to bring your car in, Jenny (front desk manager) will most likely pick up. She is extremely friendly and delightful, both over the phone and in person. read more

I have taken my car here several times for a variety of issues. The people are extremely nice and addressed my needs quickly. Today, I went in with a giant nail in my tire. It was patched and I was back on the road in less then 30 mins. Amazing work for a very reasonable price. read more

I own a late model Saab that I'll be asking for little repairs now and again. So it's important that I have a mechanic I can trust. I work right next door, so it's convenient, but Burlingame has a lot of repair options. I'll still go there. Auto Fixation is probably the most honest car repair shop I've worked with. Here's a few reasons why: - I needed a series of repairs to a pump. Not only did he advise for the least expensive approach, he thoroughly explained what he was doing. - I bring little repairs (bolt tightening, for example). - If he can't do the repair, he'll refer me somewhere else. - If he can't do the repair in a day, he attempts to fix it enough so I can drive home (I live in the city). He's done this a couple of times. - We talk about "not looking too hard" knowing there are other less than ideal conditions with the car. I don't really want to understand cars, so it's great to have someone like Ken (the owner) explain repairs in a easy to understand manner. I would highly recommend Ken to anyone who lives nearby. read more

My car stalled on the 101, and I was able to make it to an off ramp. I searched on yelp for a nearby shop with good reviews that was caltrain adjacent, which is what led me to Ruppel's. I have to say, the service I received was terrific. Ken predicted the actual cause of my car stalling (broken fuel pump), and he also saw that there was oil in my coolant, which is apparently a common issue with chevy 3.1L engines. He gave me quotes to fix both and mentioned that I should consider trashing the car. I was very surprised by this. Since when does an auto mechanic suggest you not getting work done? I was appreciative of his honesty. When I did more consideration, I had him fix the fuel pump, so that the car would run. I still have to deal with the oil in the coolant issue. He was also very flexible with me. I took several days to decide what to do with my car. I also was not able to pick up my car right away, and he was fine with it being there. read more

Ken saved my life. After I found out today that the reason my tire pressure light has been going off every 2 weeks was because there was a 2-inch nail stuck in it. PSI was down to 23 when it should be 32, and I didn't want to drive around looking for an affordable tire repair shop towards the end of the work day. I work in the same office as Patrick N., so having Ken next door is an absolute convenience. I asked him if he'd be able to fix it and was prepared to ask for a referral if he said no, but he said sure, I'll take a look at it, and fixed it in less than an hour, bringing the culprit - I mean, nail, to me. He even put my car back in my parking space. Price was totally affordable and most of all, Ken's super-friendly and knowledgeable service is one not to be overlooked. Go here. read more

KEN at RUPPEL'S AUTO FIXATION is the needle in the haystack that you are looking for in a good, fair, and honest car mechanic. Thank you, Ken, for keeping my beloved PT Cruiser going like new for 11 years. I'm looking forward to the next 11 with you. And thank you, SHAWN, for the TLC you give my car too. Folks, if you are shopping for an auto mechanic shop.. my opinion is that it doesn't get any better than RUPPEL'S AUTO FIXATION. read more

Ken and his team have worked on three of our cars, with good results every time. They're careful. They're smart. They're realistic, timely and reliable. With older cars especially, Ken is very good at explaining choices -- in a way that helps us sort out whether we want the costlier full workup today, or the cheaper "good enough" alternative that can tide us over for a while. Ruppel's also is a great source of honest referrals to body shops, upholstery repair folks and the whole spectrum of specialty auto-service shops. read more

Great Customer service. My car wouldn't start and I had to jump start it three times. I called my dealership who I have a package with, and they pretty much told me it would take weeks to figure out what's wrong since I don't have a package. When I called this place, the lady told me to bring it in immediately. The owner himself told me what was wrong. Instead of trying to take my money, he advised me to try again with my dealership since I would be covered with them. It's nice to know that some business care bout your better interest instead of just getting money. read more

I with out hesitation recommend Rupples. Ken and his team are top notch and thorough. I need to drive home from work after 9PM so having repair work done that I can feel confident about is very important. They also go the extra mile and make sure all those key points are checked out. If Ken finds anything he'll let you know honestly if it needs to be done right away or can wait and be done down the road. They are professional and personable. I can't imagine going anywhere else. Having a good auto repair shop is nice, having a GREAT one is awesome. Support A Quality Small Business in Burlingame. read more

My family and I have taken our cars for regular servicing and a wide variety of ailments (from stolen catalytic converters to mystery engine lights) to Ruppel's for years. Ken is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. He charges very reasonable rates for efficient and quality work. I brought my 95 Toyota truck in for a healthy check up. She was running alittle rough. Ken checked her out, made slight adjustments, oil check etc. This was done quickly! He is reasonably priced, his work is solid. He is Honest, doesn't try to talk you into extra unnecessary repairs. When I get my new vehicle, he will continue to be my Car Doctor! read more

Ken and his team kept my 1996 car running to over 180,000 miles. It ran smooth and started up every time. Then, a noise indicated a problem that would cost more to fix than the value of the car, so he recommended getting a new car. Now on to my next car, a 2000 model at 120,000 miles. I bring it in every few thousand miles for an oil change, and Ken keeps it running smoothly, and it starts every time. As for attention to detail -- I don't know how to change the clock, and I don't even mention it, but Ken changes it every 6 months for daylight savings time during the oil change !! Plus, I agree with all the other reviews about Ken's excellence in customer service, car repair and knowledge, getting me the best deal possible, and everything else. They're all really nice, and Ken explains everything clearly. Thanks to Ken, my car's functioning and reliability is something I don't have to think or worry about. read more

We have been very satisfied customer's of Ruppel's since the early 1990's when Dick Ruppel owned it, and all the time Ken has owned and operated it. We believe you can confidently trust your automotive repairs to Ken and his crew, where you'll be treated with intelligence, fairness, and courtesy at all times. We originally began with a Ford Escort Wagon and a Mercury Sable, and moved on to two Subaru's. It's always been a great experience. And very convenient, being right by the Burlingame train station, so you can drop a car and head back to SF or continue down the Peninsula. read more

I agree with most of what the other reviewers have said: honest, fair, prompt. However, they cost more than Auto Tech Center, which is minutes away. I find the place procedure-heavy, but that could be a normal result of the customer service/consumer protection advances of the past 20 years. You can rely on this place, but you can do better. read more

We felt a bump in a tire and found a bolt. Rupple's was near by so we stopped in unannounced. We were helped right away and offered a plug. When he pulled the bolt out we were lucky that it didn't go through the tread! He checked with windex and there were no air bubbles! We are back on the road! Thanks for your help! read more

My family has been going to Ruppel's for all its car repair needs for a long time. They are trustworthy and very friendly. Most recently I brought my car in because the check engine light was on and the SMOG due date was quickly approaching. Knowing this, after repairing the car Ken offered to bring it to get it smogged that same day. This was fantastic and saved me a lot of time! I really appreciated it. I would definitely suggest going here for any of your auto needs. read more

Ken and his team are the best! We have a 2006 Honda Pilot that was in desperate need of brakes. My husband called them up, and Ken said to bring it on in and let them take a look before giving an estimated quote. Brought the car in, got a call about what needed to be done soon after we dropped it off, gave Ken the green light, and they were done before 3pm (we dropped it off after 8am). Ken also told my husband that the back brakes would need attention soon, but they were ok for now (where other places will tell you that everything is wrong and needs to be done immediately)! We will continue to bring our business to Ken and his team for years to come!! read more

This is very long overdue- Ken and the Ruppel's Auto team have been my service center for my old Ford Escape for 3 years now. I'm (overly) attached to the now 12 year old car and through many repairs and problems Ken has performed fairly priced, skillful repairs and tune-ups for my beloved car. I've never felt ripped off, as I have at other service centers previously- coming into a shop as a single woman with little car knowledge its easy to feel intimidated. Ken has always explained the problem well, and gone above and beyond the job to do quality work. I live up in San Francisco, but the drive down to Burlingame is WELL worth it - I will keep coming here as long as I live in the Bay Area. read more
