But the experience really starts when you drive the tour. We opted to drive the route ourselves for the self guide tour of the battle fields. It really grounded me while driving though. Knowing how many lost their lives in the area. You were driving through a grave site. The feeling of awe, calm, chills, and honor came over me. I can go on and on about this amazing place. This was the only house he and his family ever owned. Eisenhower was fascinated by Civil War history and Gettysburg in particular. He bought this property while President and his wife focused on turning it into a working home and farm. We visited on a beautiful autumn day and listened to a Park Ranger tell us the story of why the house was here and Eisenhower's relationship to the property. Lady Matilda didn't go into the house. We walked the property to get our steps in and take in the hidden gems of the park itself. The view over the field into the mountains was beautiful and peaceful, a nice escape from the loud tourist section of town. We walked into his barn and inspected his cars, snooped about his gardens and wandered the edges of the Gettysburg Battlefield Park. The Rangers are great. There are also volunteers who know all there is to know. It mixes mid-20th-century ande mid-19th-century history in a relaxing setting you can use to escape the tourist traps of town for a few hours.

The gem here are the rangers. I saw two talks, both of which I was completely enthralled with the history and the lessons. I loved being able to see Ike's book collection. Seeing a book collection tells you a lot about a person. Also the discussion on diplomacy was enlightening and so enjoyable. I did do the home tour. I was inspired by Mrs. Eisenhower, but also the partnership they had as a couple, let me with #relationshipgoals to bring home. The landscape is also just gorgeous! Stop. Learn. Enjoy!

This is a beautiful bridge…read more There definitely are not any ghosts here or anywhere in Gettysburg. But this is a cool place to visit. I went late at night to check it out. There was a family lighting a cigarette on a railing and then freaking out when it inevitably fell over from the cig getting small and gravity doing its job. The view around the bridge is pretty cool. We need more covered bridges.

Especially so here in Gettysburg with the massive and horrific battle that took place across town. The caption reads that it is "A memorial to American musicians and the many young people from both the North and the South who sacrificed and endured so much for our country. May their devotion and service inspire and influence future generations of Americans toward unity and peace." Much of the park equally symbolizes both the North and the South, such as the statue being sculpted and cast in Pennsylvania and the pedestal being mined from a quarry in Georgia and crafted in the South. The seats are also fabricated from both North and South sources.

We picked a spot & started our exploring. We are glad we decided to go in and check it out! The staff inside is so friendly. Our tour guide was the best! Not only knowledgeable but funny. She made the tour even better! The house is beautiful. The story is mind blowing. The history here is something you can't wrap your head around unless you are seeing it in the real. Make this a must see if you plan a visit to Gettysburg!

A restoration was indicated to redirect pedestrian traffic and subsequent erosion and is finally complete. Today's visit was a glorious Monday morning in mid June when the visitors were limited and action parking places available (althogh I drove there from home about 2 miles away on my bicycle.) The new parking lot is far more bus than automobile-friendly, thus the best time to visit is a weekday morning. I must say that viewing the sun set from the summit of LRT is out of this world! My photos don't do justice to the spectacular view, so you'll have to come and see for yourself!

It is a popular spot for visitors to stop by. The park did some great improvements to Little Round Top since our last visit here in 2018. Noticeable is the improved parking area and better pathways. They've also cleared and cleaned up the wild vegetation and added new interpretative signs making for an improved visitor experience. We didn't do any hiking on the new trails this winter but we enjoyed seeing some of the improvements around the area of Hazletts Battery and my first time up close to see the 44th New York Monument. Family Days and special ticketed programs are offered on select dates throughout the spring, summer and autumn seasons. Meticulously renovated, the 80-acre historic site features restored, original buildings from the 1863 battle to inspire and explore. A strategic location on the Gettysburg battlefield, the site also served as an artillery reserve, ammunition reserve, provost guard and a temporary cemetery for both Union and Confederate soldiers. A reproduction Civil War Wheeling (Rosecrans) ambulance wagon is on display inside the barn. The Wheeling (Rosecrans) ambulance wagon was used during the Civil War to transport the wounded.
