Cute little petting zoo in Mayhill. The staff & animals are very friendly. My kids loved it! The animals are so friendly that they are almost cartoony!

My partner and I were on our way to camp and found this little gem of a spot. I adore animals and it was so wonderful to get to walk around and see/pet so many beautiful animals in one place. We had such a lovely time feeding the animals and fish. We made friends with a donkey who followed us around the entire time. It was hard to leave.

After a long trek through the Lincoln National Forest with nowhere to stop almost like an Oasis in the desert comes Runyon Ranches. Full of friendly animals to pet, wide open spaces and fresh foods it's a great place to stretch your legs.

Very cute little roadside attraction in the middle of nowhere. We stopped on the way home to Alamogordo from Carlsbad. My family and I spent a good hour here, shopping and feeding the animals. They have a nice selection of different salsa, jams, butters, candy and pickled vegetables. I saw pickled quail eggs which was a first for me. We ended up leaving with pumpkin butter and 2 mini pies, apple and peach. We also got 3 bags of animal feed, so our total came out to $14; which I thought wasn't bad at all. Once you get past the little store there are animals to feed and pet. Chickens, lamas, pigs, donkeys, and goat to name a few. There was even a zebra and a camel. It's $1 for a bag of animal feed. Also there is no public restrooms, you have to buy something or make a donation. Your best bet if you really have to go would be to buy a bag of feed and feed the animals since the restroom is inside the petting zoo area anyway. On our way out we saw that you can also rent fishing poles and fish in their lakes that they have filled with trout. No fishing license required. This place is very cute. If we ever pass through this way again we will definitely stop. Also the owners are very sweet.

Heart of the Desert Pistachios & Wine - Came for Pistachios, Left with Wine…read more We stopped here with a simple mission: grab a few bags of pistachios as gifts for friends back home. Easy, right? Well... not quite. The store itself is quaint and charming, filled with all kinds of temptations. Pistachios in every form, chocolates, wines, and gift options that make you rethink your original plan. You can taste a little of everything, which is both delightful and dangerous. Then we stepped out onto the patio with our pistachio ice cream, and wow... completely unexpected. The space is gorgeous. Calm, open, and the kind of place that makes you slow down without even trying. Honestly, if I lived nearby, I'd be planning celebrations here without a second thought. Somewhere between the views and the tasting, I tried their pistachio rosé. And yes, I had the same reaction, "wait... what?" But it worked. Different, pleasant, and surprisingly good. Good enough that I completely abandoned my pistachio gift plan and walked out with several bottles instead. A much more unique surprise. The staff were warm and welcoming, adding to the whole experience. No rush, no pressure, just genuine friendliness. We didn't have as much time as I would have liked, and that's probably the only downside. This is the kind of place where you want to linger longer, taste more, and just enjoy the moment. Came for pistachios. Left with wine and zero regrets.

How about those shiny floors everywhere! It's not just about amazing pistachios (though they're so good )--it's about the passion and purpose that go into everything you do. The inviting patio to sip on wine amongst the carefully pruned trees was a bonus Grateful for such an inspiring experience, especially Melissia and Sabrine. #SupportLocal #SustainableFarming #Gratitude

Life is so fun! I was just sent a Christmas gift package from one of my childhood friends. Inside was a number of wonderful top notch "foodie" products from New Mexico. We spent time growing up in NM and are fond of foodie items. What a kind gesture, that he sent! One of the items was this BBQ sauce from Poppa Pokey's, the "Sweet Dragon's Breath." I had picked up some pulled pork from a fantastic local restaurant, "The Rustic" to try out this sauce, on a quick adventure. The pulled pork was wonderful by itself, tried the pulled pork first and then with the sauce. Wow and holy cow, what a great sauce. I'm not much of a bbq sauce person, but this sauce is wonderful. Since then I have tried the sauce on three other items and I'm very impressed by this sauce! What a fantastic Christmas gift was the "Sweet Dragon's Breath" BBQ sauce! How fun, it says it is "hot," but I was ready for more heat. Still you could taste the meat and it was not overpowering Poppa Pokeys currently has three different bbq sauces, and only tasting just the "Sweet Dragon's Breath," I'm very impressed! The owner of this great sauce works for a gas company, but is a big foodie and over the years he has put together a great bbq sauce. If you go to his website you can see that he has placed it in small gas stations all over New Mexico, for when folks go in to refill their gas tanks, you will see the bbq sauce. The gas stations that they belong to are from the main company he works. ***Love: I love the fact that when I read the back of the bottle, I can pronounce the all of the ingredients. Second thing, it's is unbelievable on nearly anything that I put it on! Third, he is a small town guy that has followed his heart and has an outstanding product! Good for you sir, to the small town foodie! Go get e'm sir! Hope he can sell it here in Dallas soon! I do believe, that's some big company is going to come along and taste his products and mass-produce it! I would highly recommend this "Sweet Dragon's Breath" bbq sauce!

There are all types of cooking utensils, texture rolling pins, there's anything you can think of for baking. Cooling racks, bread pans, crust protectors, you name it, It is here. We found multiple things that we ended up getting, and the prices on stuff seemed reasonable. We got a text rolling pin for putting designs in dough before cutting out the cookie. We got a collapsible microwave protector to prevent splattering. I also enjoy making homemade apple pies and found a round pie crust cutter that cuts the design in the top crust in the shape of small apples. I'm telling you it's worth walking through the store. You will find something that you're going to buy because you want it and a ton of things that you would consider buying just because it's neat.

Today we were checking Yelp to see if Hearts Delight-The Kitchen Store was still in business. I read some of the reviews and they were TOUGH. We decided to try it. THIS PLACE WAS AWESOME!!!! The gentleman who was running the store was absolutely FABULOUS!!!! I was looking for a specific item. He had neither seen nor heard of what I was looking for. HE WENT ON THE INTERNET, RESEARCHED AND FOUND A PRODUCT IN HIS STORE THAT WILL SERVE THE SAME PURPOSE!!!! Not only that, the gentleman got the product off of the shelf and brought it to me in the store! He could have just let that go, but his interest was OBVIOUSLY on customer service! A sign outside the business claimed "Under New Ownership." THIS store is definitely worth a stop! And to the gentleman who helped us, kudos! Great job!!!!

But there was one thing I had never done, and that's McGinn's PistachioLand. Now imagine that you've responsibly booked a farm tour of McGinn's six months in advance and driven over 2,000 miles to complete this bucket list goal. You've even signed the waiver they texted you 45 minutes before lining up for the first tour of the day. You're ready for a unique adventure. And then, 15 minutes before you're ready to take the tour, McGinn's notifies you that the tour has been cancelled because tour guide Garret is unavailable. Really? This is allowed? If you live down the street from PistachioLand, this isn't a big deal. Take the tour some other day. But if you've driven all the way across the country for this, only to receive news of a cancellation with 15 minutes notice, I cannot imagine that the risk of visiting PistachioLand is worth it. Their farm store is neat. Pictures next to the gimmicky giant pistachio are cool. But the highlight of your visit would certainly be a tour of the actual pistachio groves. And when they're allowed to unabashedly cancel on you with essentially no notice after spending a great deal of money and effort to get there, this particular point of interest is just not worth visiting.

On one occasion, I mentioned that the entrance had an unpleasant odor like body odor it hits you in the face when you open the door the next time, I did come in the smell was not there. Today, I called the store to schedule a Hydrotherapy appointment. I spoke with a gentleman who informed me that Amy's available slots for these appointments are at 1:00-2:00 PM or 2:30 PM. I explained that these times wouldn't work for me and asked if there were other options. He mentioned that Amy might be flexible with her schedule. I then checked my calendar to see if I could accommodate one of the regular times, as he also mentioned there were available slots in August. He then asked what time would work for me, and I replied with 5 PM. He immediately responded, "Blah, I don't think Amy will do that," cutting me off before I could finish. I was about to suggest 5 PM this week or 12:30 PM next Monday if that was possible, but I never got the chance. So, I said, "Um, okay, never mind." He responded, "No, Jessica, what is it? Well, what is it?" I told him I would find another place for the treatment. He said something I couldn't hear, and I ended the call by telling him his response was rude before hanging up. I already felt uncomfortable discussing this appointment with a man, and his rudeness made it even worse. Hydrotherapy involves being partially exposed, with only a blanket covering you, so it's crucial for me to feel comfortable with the staff and the environment. This comfort is essential for a positive experience. I will no longer shop here!
