The rental house was not at all my favorite. It's in need of HUGE repair and TLC. Their other cabins are a big improvement. My only complaint would be that they desperately need to replace the showerhead; but again, these are very inexpensive cabins that have AC and running water. The cabin is also VERY clean when we check-in. The owners, in our experience, are very polite and basically just good, good people. We will continue to rent here.

Billed as the "Canoe Capital of the Ozarks" the chance that canoes would be bow to stern from start to finish was a distinct possibility so near the 4th of July. There were heavy downpours Sunday morning and we feared the river might be running to high to boat. I called Aker's General Store at the ferry crossing and was given an enthusiastic, "Come on up, we're floating." The dismal looking day turned to our advantage as it scared away almost everyone. We encountered less than a dozen other boaters during our 6-hour, leisurely trip from the Cedar Grove put-in point back to Aker's Ferry. We thought the low turnout might affect our departure, but Karen and I were the only customers on the school bus pulling one lone canoe, when we left at noon. The good folks at Aker's didn't make us sit around until the trip added paying customers. The gesture was greatly appreciated! Karen and I caught six fish each, but all were too small to keep. Though the day was heavily overcast, it only rained on us for five-minutes the entire trip. The clouds made what would have been a very hot day, cool and pleasant. This was not our first canoe trip with Aker's and won't be our last. We did have a minor problem with bolts that managed to exit their assignment holding the canoe's front seat in place, but it did not put a damper on the day. We put the cooler under the seat and kept on paddling. The Ozarks National Scenic Waterways are spectacular. So get a boat and float some of the best country Missouri has to offer!
