Bever is to Holland what REI is to America. You can find all your outdoor sporting needs here, but…read moremostly European brands. It took me awhile to figure out what brands and items would work for my outdoor adventure needs. I was on a mission to buy a few things. For one, I desperately needed a backpack that could house more than just water. I already have a Camelback, but needed something bigger. I looked around a bit as they have quite a selection of backbacks. Finally, I decided on an Osprey that also had a lining that was compatible with a Camelback water reservoir. OK, that mission is now complete. Next, I needed a Swiss Army-like tool. They have many many different types of Swiss Army knives, and also a few Leatherman tools. In addition, they also carry Gerber tools. A friend told me about this brand and he liked the way it worked, so I decided to have a look at these. Unfortunately, the salesman knew nothing about Gerber tools, so I was sort of on my own in the decision-making here. I settled on the Gerber Crucial Multi-Tool, which has a wire cutter, pliers, beer opener (extremely important), flathead and Phillips screwdriver, and liner lock knife. It also have a belt clip, so easy to just hook on. I also like the green colour of the tool and it is very lightweight. Pretty good tool, but I wish it had some scissors. Overall, this store was great for all my outdoor needs. You can pretty much get anything here before heading into the jungles of Africa (just kidding). The only weird thing was when I went to pay and used my credit card, they asked to see my passport and also wrote down my passport info. A bit odd, I think Holland needs to get up to speed with the credit/debit system in general, but otherwise a great store.

I love this place!…read more It's a huge sporting goods store and they have a bit of everything including but not limited to goods for: - Volleyball - Basketball - Baseball (not much) - Soccer - Rugby/Football - Trekking and hiking - Surfing - Diving - Swimming - Archery - Riding (horseback) - Camping - Skiing - Snowboarding - Racquetball/Squash - Tennis - Fitness - Cycling - Skating (inline/board/roller) - Ice skating And probably more! They have stuff to suit any budget, including the very low ones, while maintaining the quality of the goods! The prices are very decent if not cheap for their so called "Blauw Product" labelled stuff, which essentially means that it's super cheap, and they have a wide array of products. For example, I bought a super thin fleece long sleeve for but €7.45! The stitching is of great quality and it doesn't fit baggy like a mass produced one-size-fits-all piece of clothing. It's formfitting but not tight, at all. I implore you check this place out. You might see things that you need without the prior knowledge of your need for them! Check out the pics to get an idea. Beware if you're going by car as it's right next to the Amsterdam Arena so you'll have to pay for parking.

I haven't worn Adidas in years, but was on…read morevacation in Amsterdam and was so entranced by the window displays in the Adidas Original Store that I went in to take a look. After browsing for a few minutes, I took a photo of a cool shoe that I planned to post on Facebook. An angry salesperson came over and told me that photos were not allowed. I said, OK, and deleted the photo. Then I asked why photos were not allowed. Angry Salesperson told me that no photos of merchandise are allowed in any Adidas stores and that it was because they didn't want people stealing their designs. I said, OK. She said, "I have that same phone as you; show me that you deleted the photo." I was like, OK, here. She then demanded to see my iPhone camera roll. Several thoughts about this experience: 1. After my interaction with Angry Salesperson, I will not be wearing Adidas products in the future. 2. I have nearly 1000 Facebook friends, many of whom like sneakers. So Adidas missed out on an opportunity to have someone post and praise their shoe. I think it's very likely that at least one of them would have gone out and bought sneakers with their name stitched into the sides (which was the shoe I had photographed). 3. Really, no photographs of stuff in Adidas Originals stores? Anywhere in the world? I could understand if I had, like, infiltrated their secret design lab in Bavaria and taken photos of sneaker prototypes scheduled for sale in 2015. But this was just a regular Adidas Originals store; I've been in several this year in the United States and in Germany. Anyway, so, #adidasFAIL. I'm going to go put on my Pumas now...

There looked to be two sales people helping in the downstairs area while they both had to run up and down the stairs to get shoes that people requested. With so many people, I would have though more people would be working. But the people who were there seemed helpful enough. You had to find someone and ask for your size, but I almost expect that in Amsterdam. But we waited for a long time to be able to talk to someone and then there was a line to even talk to him again to get the box of the shoes we wanted to buy. We did leave the store with a pair of shoes, but it was more out of necessity than because we liked the store. Of course we found a store with more variety and not owned by a major brand closer to home when walking back. But you live and learn, right?
