Very disappointed in the quality of service along with the attitude of the owner. Brought three pants in and he "repaired" all three. After one wear on each pant the repair came undone. There were tears in the crotch on two of the pants. Common sense would tell you to repair the whole crotch and reinforce it. He chose to only do half. He never even offered to do the whole thing and give me a higher price. He claims he "usually explains that". He did not for me. He also basically called me a liar as well when I explained I wore them each once, saying: "well you are saying that, but I have no way of knowing". Pretty rude. Will never ever come here again. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIS COMPETITOR DR DENIM. I was being lazy and didn't want to drive across town. I've learned my lesson. read more

I've had some bad experiences with different tailors that when it came to my denim. Had some really shoddy patchwork and also hemming would be a nightmare. I was looking for a person who specialized in denim and found Robert. I took a trip from Irvine just to see him and I'm glad I went his way. Does not do a good job for the price paid. Charged me extra to "chain stitch" my non-denim trousers when I asked that the stitched hem on the bottom of my trousers be thicker. I didn't need it to be chain stitched, just a thicker hem. When I got the pants back the thread used was totally different color than the thread on the rest of my pants. Another time I brought in a pair of jeans to slim down. Once I returned the pants were stitched together backwards and the pants were extremely slimmer than what was discussed. They were able to re-stitch my pants right but they are still too slim, $200 pants ruined. I don't think the owner does the alterations, the people he hires needs to be trained at how to alter denim. Owner seems to be more interested in making custom jeans rather than altering customers jeans. Stay away. Now I need to find a new place to take denim. Degrading and being rude to paying customers who have been coming to your measly little shop since it was on Sawtelle is not cool. Just makes you look even worst. Bottom line is you don't supervise your employees and they do a shoddy job, which you charge premium for. I shouldn't need to bring anything back, let alone be stuck with half ass work. Lastly I waited 3 months to review because I finally got fed up staring at pants I can't wear anymore because of shoddy work done by Rufcut. I've heard "Denim Revival" on 3rd does a better job. read more

I wear my raw greys to work maybe 3-4 days a week for work and some small rips started showing up near the back pockets and crotch area. I got a quick quote on online, dropped off my jeans, and picked them up one week later looking terrific! This is the second pair I've gotten fixed up here and I still highly recommend Rob and Rufcut for your designer/raw denim repairs! I really like the new shop as well versus the shack he previously had and I do hope he gets a lot more exposure and business at the new location. While chatting with him I learned of awesome developments such as a denim tailoring class he hosts at the shop and his desire to create create custom Rufcut denim for his customers. Terrible....that's all I can say $18 to hem a pair of jeans that it took him a week and a half to accomplish. When I tried them on after he hemmed them, they were THREE INCHES TOO SHORT....COME ON...REALLY?! "Well gee...I don't know how that happened..." Robert rules. I've had him do just about everything to my jeans. From tapering and chain stitching a hem to wear-out repairs, and even some more gnarly repairs from my dog chewing a random hole or belt loop off. Made the mistake of taking a pair somewhere else once and the repair work was almost non-existent and didn't last one wash compared to Rufcut's hard core darning. Like many of the other reviews written on here, I've driven by this place a million times and never went in. I had about five pairs of great jeans that needed to be fixed (make the legs skinnier to fit the trend) so I brought them in. Robert, the owner, was super helpful and was very professional in the fitting. All of my jeans came out exactly as I wanted them. He did it in a timely manner and did it at a reasonable cost (compared to buying brand new jeans). I'd recommend him to anyone on the west side needing work done to their jeans. Robert is the only guy I let touch my raw denim. He has worked on 4 pairs for me and a pair for my girlfriend. He really does pay attention to even the smallest details. He suggested a very specific rainbow stitch (a blend of the gold and red stitching) for a pair of Gustins I brought in. I was hesitant but by now I trust his judgement. They came out looking amazing. As a raw denim enthusiast Robert totally helps feed my addiction. I had a pair of jeans I loved that ripped right at the top of one of the back pockets. In an attempt to save money, I tried repairing it myself without any success. Loved jeans then said in the back of the closet for many months while I tried to find some time to go to the repair shop I knew of mid-Wilshire. And then, I realized I should probably just check out the itty-bitty jeans shop in my own neighborhood. I've passed Rufcut for years and just never gotten around to going in. I thought that maybe they only repaired Levis (nope, they'll fix any pair of denim you bring in). The price was great. Really great. And the repair looks good. Just picked up my APCs from RUFCUT after I had them repair a blown out crotch... DAMN AM I IMPRESSED! It was pretty expensive ($50 for crotch that was blown out in about 5 different spots) but like the guy explained it to me, "you could go to any dry cleaners and get a $10 fix but eventually that'll break and you'll be back to see me - if I do it, you won't ever need to come back." On pair in particular was taken to TWO prior alterations places and they still weren't right. The moral of the story is that they didn't have the expertise / understanding of old denim to give me what I wanted - which was to not look like I stole my dad's pants and threw them on. I purchased jeans for $150. They fit a little big and asked to have it taken in a little. The owner said to wear it a few times and if I felt it was still a little loose, to comeback in a month (from purchased date) and he would take it in for me at no charge. Went back yesterday and he said he wouldn't do it for free and to pretty much get me out of the door he said to wash it a few times and put it in the dryer to shrink it. A) he lied to make a purchase and didn't keep his word. B) Washing the jeans and putting it in the dryer is not the solution for what I wanted. Unprofessional and will never go back to him.
