It's the only club I know, where You find people dancing a few minutes after the doors opened, no matter if it's 9p in the winter or 10p in the summer. So if You like to dance for free with different people who mainly like to dance to a wide range of music, give it a try it's worth it (cause it's FREE ;-) 30 on Sundays) - They got a new sound system which turns the volume (bass) way up to loud (not even earplugs are helping) which made a lot of people sick and stop going there, but it looks like it's a little bit better again now.

It's filled with goths/vamps/whatever they are, the whole place reeks of smoke (and so will you when you leave), the bathrooms are disgusting, and they play alt rock from the 90s. Huh? No, doesn't make sense to me either. But they're open really late, nobody cares who you are or what you look like, drinks are pretty cheap, and if you get drunk and let yourself go you can have a good time if it's your thing. This most-recent (I think) addition to Freiburg's bar scene has been a hole-in-one with me, and with more than a few other people around here, judging from the crowds on weekend evenings. Of course on the weekends in the evening they stop playing the great old-school stuff... but they don't sell out. Unlike other bars (El Pi... ahem ahem) which will start drowning you in mainstream pop and hip-hop as soon as it's 11 or so, The Great Rang Teng Teng's staff makes the music a bit more modern... but still palatable to us music snobs. Mostly accessible indie with some classics thrown in here and there. Also, be sure to pick up their calendar of upcoming events -- they feature live music regularly as well. And, to make sure this is an authentic old-school dive bar experience, it's in a basement... so your cell phone won't work! After just a few weeks of existence, this is already my favorite bar in Freiburg. Note that there's a 2EUR entry fee on Saturday nights now (mainly to keep it from being so ridiculously overflowed as before, I think).
