Statesville Hidden Gem…read more Don't normally visit this store but had a wardrobe malfunction (belt broke) and I needed an immediate replacement. Choices were Belk's in Statesville or Kohl's in Mooresville and this one was closer. May have visited sometime in the past to pay a bill but that would have probably have been 10 years ago and things have changed a lot since them. 10 years ago, Signal Hill Mall of which this is an anchor was still viable with a JC Penney's and Sears as the other anchors but they have long since gone. Today the mall is down to just a few stores and is basically abandoned with very few tenants and visitors. Belk has pretty much cut themselves off from the Mall with what used to be the Mall entrance, closed off with glass. Don't know if it is true or not but I've been told that the only reason Belk keeps this store open is that they are the landlord and they own the property. Still not expecting much I was very pleasantly surprised when I walked into the store. Nice and bright and well organized with very good selections. If I had to guess, I would say that it is larger than their Mooresville store. Needless to say, almost deserted and that was reflected in the level of staffing. Employees were covering multiple departments and generally you found what you wanted and took it a one of several locations for check out. Not to say that you could not get assistance because they were very helpful and directed me to where I needed to go and answered any of my questions. Not the optimum experience but considering Covid, it worked. In the end, a very pleasant shopping experience. Good selection of merchandize and pricing was very good and comparable to the rest of the Belk Platform.

Visited the store today and it was very light on merchandise to be such a nice store. The choices…read morewere minimal and though they had some pretty good sales, it felt like they prices were outrageous and the sales just brought it down to a normal price. Maybe they are low on inventory due to COVID closures, but the store is clean and tidy and well organized. The only drawback I saw was the lack of choice here compared to similar sized stores.

I feel this location/store is rather small and that could add to the messy feel at times. Despite having to pick up misplaced items or sort through the hodgepodge (mostly in the clearance section), I love to shop at any TJ Maxx to save money on brand name items, especially clothing for my son and I and shoes for me! Saving money on brand name clothing is especially important when you have teenagers that insist on being trendy or "branded" as I call it. Please note the clothing is past/previous year so all teens may not go for this! This store has plenty of brand name clothing for men, women and children but only has shoes for women. However, this is standard for TJ Maxx. I feel this location doesn't have as many big brands like The North Face, Hilfiger or my personal favorite, Lucky Brand as other locations but that could be because those items don't sell as well in our small town. Bigger brand equal bigger price tag even here at TJ Maxx! This store has a good selection of luggage and purses, as well as home goods. I have often found good buys in the home goods section. It's kind of like going on a treasure hunt of sorts! Some people like to go to yard sales, flea markets or Goodwill but I prefer TJ Maxx for my bargain scores! TJ Maxx is a really great place to shop for gifts at Christmas, too! There's generally an entire area at the end of the women's clothing section specifically dedicated to inexpensive gifts. Yes, another score for me! I, also, like their specialty foods section, jewelry and pet section. I found dried persimmons a couple years ago and now my Dad is hooked on them. I see/purchase 2-3 bags during the Christmas season. Not sure if it's a seasonal item or not. I have purchased numerous watches and jewelry pieces from TJ Maxx over the years! I purchase my pet beds here, too! This location is my go to store because TJ Maxx is my favorite store to shop in and it's convenient! If I don't find what I'm looking for here, I just go to a larger one in a surrounding town. Do yourself a favor and go on a treasure hunt in this TJ Maxx today! You never know what goodies you'll find until you start digging, especially in the clearance section at the back of the store! I've never had an issue with poor customer service at this location but in my experiences, you don't really interact with staff until you reach the registers for check out. Staff have always been pleasant to me! I'm so glad Statesville has this TJ Maxx!

Great Service and Good Prices…read more Dropped by the pick up a pair of ear rings for my niece who is coming in town for her Birthday. Nothing fancy but wanted to give her a relatively nice set of ear rings for her Birthday and I've been so swamped, did not have time to do much shopping. I was in Kohl's on Saturday and looked at the Jewelry counter and they had exactly what I wanted and to make it better, they were on sale and they gave me an extra discount. In the end, I got a nice set of ear rings for about 1/3 of the original price and a young lady on her 15th Birthday was thrilled. Great service in this department.

Used to be in regularly for fancy shirts and ties and casual pants about 20-25 pounds/years ago,…read morenow it's just housewares and beddings and things like that when the economy shops don't have the brand-quality I'm looking for. There's a nice selection of sheets and comforters and towels and small kitchen appliances at various price points but shopping here can get spendy fast. However, with a little luck and a little planning a person can make out alright; sales can run 40% off and sometimes more when you get bongo bucks . House brands in clothing can save some scratch without giving up too much fashion in men's wear. Used to have bunches of Garcia ties, not so much anymore; not sure if it's a Mooresville thing, NC, or if the line has just run it's course. In any case I'm kinda bummed about it.

We have been to several Mast General Stores in various locations and knew the original store was…read morelocated on our weekend travels. We like Mast and always enjoy the products and atmosphere. We drove on our road trip to Johnson City, Tennessee from our home near Winston-Salem. It was getting late so we noted the location and decided to stop on our return trip home when we anticipated we would have more time. We arrived in the early afternoon of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and after following the line of cars to the back parking lot, we were amazed to see how many people were there! The small front parking area was full and the much larger rear parking lot was almost full. We did not think it was possible that everyone was visiting the general store, partly because it looks much smaller from the outside. As we walked toward the rear porch entrance, there was a Boy Scout Troop making kettle corn with a large kettle, butter, sugar, salt and corn and stirring it with a big paddle. It smelled delicious and we knew we needed to buy some on our way back to the car. After entering the building, we could see the entire parking lot contained all those people inside the general store, it was very busy but it appeared they had an adequate amount of employees. Mast features outdoor gear, home decor, knives, shoes, clothing, gift related items and food. They also have a large barrel candy area. We picked up a few things we felt we could not live without. On our way out, we purchased a bag of the kettle corn from the Boy Scouts and enjoyed munching on it while also supporting a good cause. It was so delicious with the combination of butter and sugar. A definite treat that we hadn't eaten in a long time. The original store is a must stop if you are driving through the area. We also recommend stopping at any of their other locations as well. They have many items you may not find elsewhere.

Away from that small shoe building, half each for men and women, we went to the main building a seemingly turn of the century wooden floored building where there is a candy section and, yes, I bought some old time candy, which was $5.99 a pound as I recall. Lots of old time kitchen utensils, ceramic cookware, kid's toys, hunting and outdoor wear. Then to the main hiking and hiking shoes for men where they had some which were 25% off. Jim, a clerk, came up as I was looking around and politely asked if he could help me find something in the Keen shoes I was poking through. Told that I was looking for an 11 1/2 size, but there were no half sizes. As sometimes shoes can run a bit large he asked if I wanted to try on an 11 and he would go look for an 11 1/2 if the 11 would not fit. I had just determined that the 11 wasn't for me, and Jim came back. Now you know how I came to purchase my Keen Targee IV WP MEN, size 11.5 at 25% off. Checking us out was another friendly, chatty and efficient employee (as all of their folks are) named Rhonda. Like I said, you "just gotta" visit, and maybe spend a few bucks. We did!
