Ruby Rabbit is the brain-child of Jutta Tischendorf. Inspired by the Espresso craze taking Australia and New Zealand by storm, Jutta offers up the elusive, silky beverage that is the Flat White and old familiars such as the Latte Macchiato & Cappuccino, as well as products of her masterful baking skills in this "Granny meets Street Art" stall on Maybachufer. Think hand-written blackboards, floral patterns, brown paper bags, paper doilies, Bill Callahan playing on the speakers alongside the coffee grinder & old wooden crates cunningly disguised as display cabinets.
It is hard to say, however, whether it is the rich, flavoursome coffee or Jutta's baking that reels in the customers every week (though i'd assume the offer of "Coffee & Cake" for a mere 3eu is all the excuse anyone needs.) Atop the floral table cloth, lined with ornate silver trays & doilies you will find an array of delightful, freshly baked treats such as Anzac Cookies (another Australian/NZ Speciality) Banana & Walnut bread, Carrot Cake, Cheesecake, Chocolate & Cranberry biscuits & the ever popular Chocolate Brownie.
The beans are sourced from local Berlin Roasterie; "Blaue Bohnen" and a range of their blends can be purchased at the stall, whole or ground, filterkaffee or espresso. Pouring through the suitably vintage Espresso Machine is their signature blend; "Espresso Bandido," an Arabica-Robusta blend sourced from Peru, India & Ethiopia.
This stall runs at the Turkenmarkt and Wochenmarkt on Maybachufer (and at other Berlin markets depending on the time of year) Just look for the gorgeous, hand-sewn "Coffee & Cake" banner or follow the scent of just-baked, sugar-dusted Brownies.
