I'm reviewing the Ruby Claire Hotel. The only time I saw the bar was when I checked into the hotel (checking is on the seventh floor at the bar).
We stayed four nights. It was in a nice area close to a big cross section of public transport. It's above a McDonald's (that opens at ten) and some actual nice cafes, and there is an express grocer under the hotel as well.
I got a room on the first floor (American second floor). When we first walked into the hotel from the street, everything was painted black. Well, almost everything. There were strips of neon on the wall, but that was about it.
On the first floor, it was allllllllll black. The walls, the doors, the ceiling, any and all molding. The door knobs and some gray in the carpet were the only non-black painted items. Above the doors were small lights awkwardly highlighting the lint floating around the open area and down the hall. I couldn't tell you whether it was dirty, but it looked it. It was creepy and classless.
The entrance to our room was down a narrow hall off in the corner with a motion sensor light that turned on when you got a couple of steps in. It was eerie. And with everything being black and seemingly dingy, it was like being in a haunted house I paid a lot of money to not want to be in.
Once in the room, things almost normalized. It was spacious for a European hotel and clean. And white. I don't pay attention to decor, but when an amp is sitting on the floor by the bed needlessly taking up precious space, I notice it. An amp. Plugged in. Attached to nothing. Useless. There was some other pointless piece of sound equipment on the desk using room I could have repurposed, but... cool, I guess.
They had to install a bathroom I'm sure, and for the toilet, they sensibly enclosed it in smoked glass. The shower right next to it? Not so sensible. Clear glass. There's a curtain to draw, but c'mon.
I myself found the mattress to be hard and cheap. It wasn't "firm" but hard and uncomfortable. My girlfriend said she could sleep OK on it but wasn't in disagreement. I don't care all that much about the pillows and sheets. Please be clean. They were.
The morning came with a surprise as our housekeeper didn't feel the need to knock before coming in while my girlfriend stood there naked and I opted to shower sans closed curtain. I'll say this for her, with the shriek my lady-friend let out, she managed to not slam the door while she shut it.
Ruby Claire is cheap for this area of Geneva, but I think it's still a bit overpriced for what you're getting. read more
