In addition, my life is complete chaos and it's really hard for me to make an appointment for anything ahead of time. I have walked by Yeka a million times, so I checked them out online and was thrilled to see that I could make an appointment online AND I was able to secure one for the same day, within 2 hours! When I arrived at the salon, I met Marlin (you can specify who you want to cut your hair when making the appointment but I picked first available). As expected, no English. I was a little concerned because while I am proficient in Spanish, my proficiency is limited to construction and engineering terms that I use for work. However, I was able to communicate what I wanted and off we went for the hair wash. I got a fabulous scalp massage and then it was time for the chair. I had asked for a general trim and then for her to add some long layers. At my last professional hair cut at the Changing Room, the stylist cut my hair exactly how I cut my hair, which begs the question; why bother paying a professional? Marlin definitely did stuff that I would not be able to do! I opted to leave with my hair mojado as it was raining outside and I wanted to see what the curls would look like as they dried naturally. I was absolutely THRILLED with the results! I got exactly what I wanted and my curls are refreshed and healthy looking! I paid $45 + $10 tip and the whole thing took less than 30 minutes. A+!!

They are tidy with the hair clippings, but they were messy with everything else. The seats for the shampoo station had small tears, the towels were more stained than you would expect, and the walls look like they haven't been painted in years. All of the stylists (including my own) are able to communicate with ease, but the shampoo girl and the woman who runs the cash register and counter have a very difficult time with the English language. If you plan on using your debit card to pay for services, make sure you have cash on hand for tip. The surly cashier will not allow you to add tip onto your bill. Monti, my stylist, has been a stylist for ages and is very skilled with a pair of scissors. He cuts hair with concentration and precision and doesn't chat your ear off, which I appreciate. In rating this place, I gave it 3 stars based on an average (4 stars for the stylist and 2 stars for the salon). Again, this place accepts credit and debit cards but does not allow you to add tip to the bill. Make sure to bring cash for tips. The stylist should not have to suffer for management's odd rules.
