We asked a couple of Germans that were waiting to pick up people for a convention where we could get a traditional German/Bavarian meal, and they pointed us here. The food was delicious. I had the pork knuckle with potato dumplings and sauerkraut. The skin on the pork was nice and crispy. My wife had the roast chicken with potato salad. Her meal was good too. The service wasn't exactly warm, but it was efficient. We arrived here at noon with only an hour, or less to catch our train to Berlin, and I'm guessing this was possibly our last chance to get Bavarian food. Our waitress brought a pretzel stand to our table before our meal arrived. They looked good and we're €1,20 each. Glad we passed because I was full after finishing my meal and some of my wife's. We saw the low rating on Yelp, but our expectations were exceeded, especially for a train station. Our two meals, a Coke and a ,5L of Augustiner came to about €32. Not bad in my opinion. read more

Food was great and service was excellent. Came here before getting on the train for Croatia. The potato soup was the most delicious portion of the meal. The fish was beautifully cooked, the bones were a turnoff though. The salad was fresh and the dressing definitely added a nice taste to it. Our waiter was awesome. After a long travel day and getting to the hotel around 8:00pm, we didn't think of having dinner until almost 10:30. We went through Yelp and narrowed our choice to a traditional Bavarian restaurant, located on the other side of the Central train station, which was just across the street from our hotel. We decided to cut across the train station when we came upon Rubenbauer Gennuswelten, a food court of some sort that's inside the train station. The one sign that caught our eye was them selling Döner and a soda for €6,50. What's a Döner? Döner kebab is a Turkish dish made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie, normally lamb but sometimes beef, or chicken. The sliced meat of a döner kebab may be served wrapped in a flatbread such as lavash or pita or as a sandwich instead of being served on a plate. It is a common fast-food item not only in Turkey but also in the Middle East, Europe, Canada and Australia. Seasoned meat in the shape of an inverted cone is turned slowly against a vertical rotisserie, then sliced vertically into thin, crisp shavings. On the sandwich version, the meat is generally served with tomato, onion with sumac, pickled cucumber and chili. We first tried a Döner in Berlin, and also had one in Anaheim at DönerG. Both excellent in their own right. How could we pass up a Döner plus a soda for €6,50? So, ordered 2 of the Döner-menü and added an order of their Pommes XXL (fries) for €2,95, and found an evacuated table. This review is for the takeaway portion of Rubenbauer. My husband loves German sausages and one huge criteria is that he is able to see them on the grill cooking before he'll bite and get one. The sausages here met with his approval so he bought one -- and raved that it was the best sausage he had during our entire trip to Germany. The sausage was well griddled and spicy with a crispy skin. Tasty mustard topped a soft, fresh roll. Fast food at the HBF has no reason to be good and tasty, but this place was a huge hit. Food was okay. I ordered Chef's Salads. The grilled shrimp could have been more cooked. In addition, the potato salad was too salty. Price is okay, for a sit-down place at the central train station. However, the waitress here is terrible! After we asked for complementary water (AKA free water, common in Germany), she brought a bottle of water that costed almost €6. And she was very adamant about us paying for it. I had to make it clear that we won't eat here, if she charge us the water. She finally took the water bottle away. Furthermore, when I felt so thirsty during lunch and took a sip from my own water, she shouted at me with "no water". Can this be more rude? read more

Some of the rudest staff I have encountered in Germany, or elsewhere for that matter. We walked in with Starbucks cups that were almost done, to get breakfast. We stood outside the door to the restaurant to drink the last so we could throw them away. A man walked up and said, "what do you want? What are you doing here?!" I explained we were just finishing the coffee so we could come eat at his restaurant. He pointed to the sign, "this is Rubenbauer. It doesn't say Starbucks!" And told us to get out. We weren't even in the restaurant! Lost our business permanently. I see others have had similar experiences. May I suggest the bagels upstairs at Coffee Fellows. * Very nice selection for a train station * This food court has a really nice variety of travel friendly food. I grabbed a schnitzel sandwich, which was a wonderful snack for the train. The meat was tender, the breading was crispy without being greasy, and the roll it was on had a nice crunchy crust surrounding a pillow soft centre. They wrapped the sandwich in foil to keep it warm for the train. Best 2.5 Euros I spent in Germany! read more

I'm not feeling too warm and fuzzy about some of the people here in Munich, servers and merchants in particular. I went to this restaurant today and had the saltiest pumpkin soup. After receiving my main meal, I asked the server if the soup is usually made with this amount of salt. He had the audacity to grab a spoon, take the bowl of soup, ate about half of it and then insisted that I was wrong, because he said the flavor was ginger that I was tasting! Then he took the soup away, offered me no alternative, and charged me for it! Who does that?!!! The waiter was a full-blooded prick and I will never return to this good-for-nothing restaurant, which I hope goes out of business. Also, I can tell the server and his colleagues are racist. I watched their facial expressions become quite negative when a group of Asian tourists came into the restaurant. They stared at the people and spoke in German, as though they were speaking negatively about them. Double thumbs down to this place! read more

Husband got the munich roast pork and I had the pork knuckle. Food was really good. I was not expecting to find this quality at a train station! The pork skins were amazing and crispy, the meat tender and well seasoned. The potato dumplings were soft and tender! Saw someone else order an asparagus special which looked really good.
