Amazing experience!…read more The birth of my daughter was an incredible experience, all thanks to Laurice! I began my care with Laurice later into my pregnancy after switching over from my original OB. To summarize a long story-I had a wonderful, complication-free pregnancy, but was feeling pressured by my OB to continue various testing, all of which yielded non-concerning results, and was causing so much stress for me. In an attempt to maintain an intervention-free birth, I reached out to Laurice and Bill, who graciously accepted me into their care. Bill spoke to me with compassion and empathy, as I shared my experience with my original OB office, and we promptly arranged a meeting, followed by a home visit to ensure we were prepared for a home birth. Laurice's knowledge and confidence in the body's design for birth brought so much comfort, and reassured me that we were, indeed, designed for birth! Birth was no longer a scary thought to me, it was something I knew I could do! During labor, Laurice was a calm, reassuring voice. She stayed on the phone as they drove to our home. She was gentle, yet steadfast in her guidance, as she allowed me to move and position as I pleased, while offering her expertise. I was not told how to labor or when to push, but instead, guided to listen to my body. I trusted her knowledge and suggestions which I knew allowed for such a positive outcome. After delivery, I didn't have to advocate for what I wanted (skin to skin, delayed cord clamping, etc) because I knew that I shared the same philosophies as Laurice. In my most vulnerable moments, I didn't have to fight an uphill battle for the birth experience that I wanted. Laurice stayed with us for several hours after delivery, and in the weeks following, called various times to check in on us. Laurice provided care that exceeded any and all of my expectations. She was professional, knowledgeable, and confident in her practice, and guided us with compassion and gentleness that made this birth experience possible. I would recommend Laurice to anyone seeking a birth experience free of unnecessary interventions, and will absolutely have her by my side for any future births!

Didn't leave for 2 hours after we called saying active labor was underway. Every appointment we went to, we were told stories of how they rush to births and drive quickly and it's a whirlwind. It should have been a red-flag. Do your research. We delivered our child alone. After, we wrote several emails trying to discuss why this happened, why they dropped off and no aftercare was received & they refused to communicate or acknowledge us while not responding to anything. Please please please consider another midwife! *Their response to my negative review speaks for itself.*

At our first visit, I knew I wanted my child to be born in this peaceful place - it had none of the sterile, mechanical & "busy" feeling of the hospital where our first child was born. The orientation class held by Beth Ann was very informative, and created a sense of familiarity, especially when we ended up having Beth Ann as our nurse. I was well into active labor when we arrived at the birth center, but as soon as I walked into the birthing suite, I felt a complete sense of security & confidence. We immediately got into the shower for hydrotherapy while Beth Ann prepared the bathtub. The room & bathroom were impeccably clean, and somehow everything we needed was concealed but close at hand - from a birthing ball to towels to a puke bag from the dresser drawer! The best part of the experience for us was the intimacy - my spouse, doula, nurse, and midwife were right there, focusing only on caring for me. There was no in & out of nurses, or additional personnel in the room. I felt completely safe and protected, even through the intensity of the delivery. My daughter was born in the birthing tub and I was the one to pull her out of the water and into my arms. Once she was born, everything was so relaxed and we could truly enjoy those first few moments. Beth Ann & our birthing team took such wonderful care of me after the birth, ensuring that my husband knew exactly how to care for me & my daughter at home. We left the birth center about 4 hrs after the birth and it was so comforting to sleep in our own bed that night! My recovery was much quicker than with my first birth, and I contribute that in part to the unmedicated, gentle waterbirth I was able to achieve at Our Birthing Center. Knowing now the extraordinary level of care, encouragement, and medical expertise available at the birthing center, I wouldn't give birth any other way!

We knew our price range (less than $1k) and what we were looking for in terms of support, and found 5 or 6 individuals or companies that fit the bill. We interviewed 2 - Katrina being the first, and we liked her immediately! She made me feel at ease and that she got the kind of birth I was looking to achieve. We hired her right away, and I really liked having access to her via text in those months leading up to labor with random pregnancy questions. She walked through our birth plan with us in person around 36 weeks - it was really helpful because she had questions for us that weren't on our OB's list, including some of the immediate newborn care. And then, finally, time to have a baby! My water had broken overnight (though I wasn't sure) and Katrina encouraged me to call my doctor when I texted her the next morning. I got busy at work (such denial!) and finally saw my doctor that afternoon and found that I was in pretty active labor! We met Katrina at the hospital, and she was amazing at keeping hubby & I focused throughout the entire process. With a 39 hour labor and 5.5 hours of pushing, we were exhausted. Katrina kept us calm and informed, keeping track of the comings and goings of the nurses and doctors through the evening. She helped me to come up with my questions before the resident came in every few hours. And when labor got really hard, she was great helping hubby to coach me to get that wee baby into our arms, and made sure we were comfortable breastfeeding before she left the hospital. Katrina stopped in a week later for our post partum visit, bringing along a wonderfully written birth story. There's no way I would have maintained the focus that I did in labor & delivery without Katrina's support and expertise!

She held my arm as we walked the halls, held the trash can as I vomited, had this wonderful cooling band for my head & neck when I was overheating, brought me slushes & kept reminding me that each contraction was one more out of the way & I was that much closer to holding my daughter. With zero pain medication she suggested alternate pain management ideas & was completely patient & supportive when I had no idea what I even wanted! Her encouragement during pushing, guidance during breast feeding, endless source of information before/during/after labor was all priceless!! She absolutely loves people & babies & births & never once thought about herself even though she was also running on no sleep & no food- she was all about my (& my husband's) comfort & experience above all else. She was a pivotal member of my birth team & I cannot imagine having done it without her!!!

Midwifery Care Associates is the model for what obstetric care should be. There are three midwives in this practice: Louise Aucott, who founded it, Pam Rosser, who's been working with Louise forever, and a third midwife who recently joined. I don't know her. The office manager is Linda, who is just a wonderful person and mother of four. Pam delivered our baby, my first pregnancy. It was a natural birth thanks to Pam's expert management. I didn't even tear! I felt pretty much back to normal two days later. We delivered at Capital Health. It's clear that the hospital staff there really respect Pam and Louise as very skilled midwives. I never had to see a doc the whole time I was there. Pam was completely in control. We will definitely be going back to deliver #2. One note: their office is a bit rundown. I was almost scared off when I first visited. Don't be worried! These ladies are absolute pros. You will have to go out-of-network to see them, but it is so worth it. I am thrilled they have brought on board a third midwife and will be able to see more patients. I wish every mom-to-be could get the same fabulous care I got.

I thought the baby was going to come out in the car ride over but luckily that didn't happen. When we arrived at the hospital, the setting was so very calm and the midwives were calm and relaxing. They talked to me while I labored in the jacuzzi tub to get me in a relaxed mood. I didn't really feel any pain in the water it was amazing. My tub labor lasted a few hours. Then I got out of the tub and my baby was out in 12 minutes. No stitches, I felt back to normal almost immediately after and this was a VBAC. These people are miracle workers. Definitely night and day from my first birth at Pennsylvania Hospital. I highly recommend you check these ladies out. :) P.S. When you are with this practice, you can only get a midwife for your labor and delivery. This is why I chose this practice. I didn't even want the remote possibility of having a doctor who was used to cutting people open at my bedside for the birth of my baby.

I had a traumatic time working with Erin in 2021. It was my first pregnancy and things were going…read morewell at first. In the second trimester, she started mentioning that my blood pressure was elevated. I looked up standards online and it was not yet elevated, so this seemed more precautionary at this point. She kept mentioning that every single appointment. I started to feel extremely anxious going into her office. I was terrified of being risked out and I felt very helpless because I had already paid the majority of the agreed upon payment, so I couldn't transfer to someone else. Around 30 weeks is when things took a turn for the worse. I was panicking about appointments at this point, which of course would give an elevated reading. However, it was when she checked my fundal height and implied that I have gestational diabetes, without doing any testing, that really drew the line. At that point, the only testing I've had was A1C at the beginning and it was borderline pre-diabetes, so based off of that and her checking fundal height, she was asking for a growth scan with no other testing. I was not offered to check my sugars with a glucose monitor, no fasting sugar test, no 1 or 3 hour test, nothing, but her hunch. This also happened at the appointment after I made my final payment to her. At this point I stopped going to her because the anxiety I had was causing me too much stress. Feeling like you will be risked every single appointment based off of hunches made me feel so helpless. She never offered for me to check my blood pressure at home. She never offered anything except what I suspect is discrimination towards my weight. She assumed my higher weight meant health issues, and I guess it was too much liability for her. But, she had no problem keeping everything I paid her. I've worked with other midwives since and they know about this situation and to this day I am measuring BP at home because doing it in office brings up a lot of this for me anxious. That's why I called this experience traumatic, it truly was for me. To make things even worse, when I was giving birth at the hospital, she transferred records and in her records had but that I have hypertension and gestational diabetes, which led to extra testing to my baby. The hospital was shocked by both of those records because my BP was perfect during birth and my and my babies sugars were perfect as well. They wondered after the fact why it even said that. So not only did she risk me out for refusing a growth scan, she then sent false records based off of her hunches to a medical facility. The hypertension part I can understand bc of the readings in office (they never actually reached 140, which is the diagnosis for hypertension), but to say I have GD with zero testing to a hospital, as a "natural" midwife, is just beyond anything imaginable. I've gone on to have a successful home birth with wonderful midwives who actually cared about me and my wellbeing. They never assumed anything about my weight, they gave me tons of options for testing to make sure we have a full picture of my health. They never made me feel like I would get risked out. If anything was every wrong, we talked about it extensively, including what to do to help the situation (iron). If you look at Erin's website, you will find zero photos of anyone who is at a higher weight. She did not have to agree to work with me. I chose her because she claimed to be inclusive. This was a lie that cost me emotionally, financially and ruined my first birth being a home birth. I'm happy to provide proof of working together through email correspondence and receipts.
