A small theatre on the edge of Sunderland town centre. Home of the local amateur dramatics society. The group produce 7 plays per season, including a panto and usually ending with a family friendly show. They stage some challenging plays, and are willing to take a risk or two with their choices - Vagina Monologues, Judas Kiss, 1984 - as well as crowd pleasers such as Agatha Christie murder mysteries, The Lady Killers, Pitmen Painters, Calendar Girls. They also support local writers, giving them the opportunity to try out their work on stage. Some shows are are absolute crackers while others are decidely amdram. What they do have, however, is an abundance of enthusiasm and dedication, a warm atmosphere and a friendly welcome. If you're looking for an alternative to X-Factor, and GBT, try here - always interesting.
