Along the front in Lyme is this fantastic pub. Full of real ales and ciders, as well as the 'normal' beers and spirits. Great service from more than friendly staff with plenty of seating inside and, in the warmer weather, outside. Covered area for non-smokers with plenty of room for us with the BAD habit.
We stopped in for a pint and a small lunch. I say small lunch but it developed into a meal having viewed their extensive menu. We were in the main area of the bay and decided to have a treat of crab and prawns. The crab arrived filling the plate. Enough for the two of us with salad and chips (they were gorgeous). A really meaty crab, my mouth still waters. A pint of shelled on prawns rammed fully into a pint glass, with salad, butter, huge chunk of bread and Marie-Rose dip. Thinking we must get back to The Royal Standard ASAP.
One problem with eating outside is the scavenging gulls. The Royal had this beaten with a white 'fishing' net strung over the outside area. A very wide mesh so you don't realise it is there and it doesn't block out the sun.
Great pub, reasonable pricing and, as I have said, friendly, efficient staff. read more
