I purchased tickets in advance, £10 one way (£25 on the spot). They're on time. The interior is clean. The seats are comfortable, although a little old, with charging ports.

This is by far the most convenient option from London proper to Heathrow Airport, but you'll pay for that convenience. Where you could reach the airport via a local train for much less, shell out the 20 - 25 pounds per person and you can ride on a direct train with zero stops. The train runs nonstop from Paddington Station, which is easily accessible by Tube. It leaves roughly every 15 to 30 minutes, but there are frequently closures and delays so make sure you allow plenty of time for your journey. In the 4 times I've used this service, twice it's been cancelled and I had to take the regular local train, so be aware. The train stops at Heathrow but the walk from the station to the terminal is quite far (allow at least 20 minutes, and even longer if you are slow or have a ton of bags). Also make SURE that you keep your ticket out because you have to scan in AND out once you reach LHR station. The train itself is nothing fancy, but they have free wi-fi and luggage racks for the short journey. The seats are comfy enough. They often run specials, so make sure you check our their website. Sometimes there are deals if you buy group tickets and it's cheaper if you purchase your tickets far in advance. This is the easiest option to get from the city to LHR by a mile.

However, I have to admit that this place does have to place in my heart because I ended up staying around the corner once so I ended up using this station rather frequently. Oh, it's pretty deep, and while they do have an elevator, they also have stairs, and I get the impression they recommend that you use the elevator despite the fact that it is really quite old.

It's quite an old station, one of the few classics remaining of the original Central London Railway by Harry Bell Measures. Despite having lifts to street level, this is not a step-free station. There is good signage including a "next train" display hanging from the ceiling. The platform curves slightly, so there is a small gap between the train and the platform edge on cars at the end of the train. Mind the gap. At street level, there is a staffed ticket booth as well as automated vending machines. The usual Oyster readers and ticket barricades too. Note: Bayswater station is only 100 yards away. If you're looking for Central/District line, it's much easier to just walk there at street level than taking a train and changing at Notting Hill Gate.

There is only stairs, no elevator so if you have luggage with you it will need to be dragged up the stairs. If you are in crutches or wheelchair you are out of luck. There is a lot of natural light coming into the station but that also means when it rain some of that comes in as well because there is no roof in one part of the station. I enjoyed the beauty of this station. Mind the Gap.

I do remember this station from one of my earlier times, and it appears that the line is not as deep as the one further down the road. An odd station with no buildings at street level, it is accessed first by stairs (which were helpfully covered on this particularly rainy day) to the ticketing level and then escalators down to the platform level. Warwick Avenue is a part of London called "Little Venice" so of course there is a waterbus service that runs from nearby to the London Zoo and Camden Lock. Note that there is a Boris bike stand just across the street.

I can only give St John's Wood Tube station one star due to yet another service disruption…read moreyesterday at 7 PM. It is unacceptable to pass through the barriers, pay with an Oyster card, and only then be told that trains are not running. The staff saw us paying, but then called us while we were going down the stairs, and we had to argue to get a refund. The information service is extremely poor and often delayed. Considering how expensive the Tube is, travel should be reliable, but it is becoming more and more frustrating. I had an important appointment scheduled months in advance, and because of this disruption, I had to quickly change my plans and take a bus, still arriving late. While traveling by bus across London, there were ongoing roadworks with construction vehicles parked, causing terrible traffic. On top of that, inconsiderate drivers ignored traffic lights and blocked buses. The worst part is that there was not a single police vehicle in sight to manage the area--this chaos can only be described as a jungle. This is an unacceptable service for anyone with commitments who pays a high price to travel in London. Peter

Mind you, when you go there you will find that lots of people will end up attempting to copy the album cover (much in the same way that people all want to get photos of themselves holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa). Anyway, the station isn't all that bad, and there is even a Beatles souvenier store at the entrance. However, it is annoying that there doesn't happen to be shops nearby.

Spanning 34 stations on London Underground, Metropolitan Line also known as The Met or the Magneta…read more(Purple) line - opening in 1863 it was the first line out of the eleven which exist to open, shortly followed by the Hammersmith & City line which opened a year later, surprisingly the latter is the only London Underground line without a Yelp page (until now) It uses the S8 stock trains which are some of the nicer and newer trains on the market, which entered in 2012 - with many lines still operating the 1992 stock this is a refreshing change and is even better than the S7 stock which came around slightly earlier. The line does have multiple routes so do be careful which one you get on - it is one of the lines which serves Wembley Park for the national stadium, which as a Manchester City fan I use regularly to travel from Euston Square. Watford, Baker Street, Euston Square, Kings Cross St Pancras, Aldgate, Watford, Uxbridge and Liverpool Street are a few of the common stations along the line. There isn't a great deal of step-free stations amongst this line but it serves a great purpose of accessible travel from the Euston Road railway stations to Wembley for those going to a game, as well as other stations along the way. 3* - Does the job but needs work for access for all and the London Overground Watford DC Line would be a great improvement if it does get funded.

I can't really call myself a fan of the Metropolitan Line. Mostly because it shares some of the…read moretracks and stations from Liverpool Street towards where I want to go, Paddington. So I usually find myself running down the stairs and jumping on the train, only to find that I have to get off at Baker Street and wait for a proper Circle or Hammersmith & City train. I'm also not a huge fan of sharing legroom with other passengers. I'd much rather be facing into the center of the train rather than facing forwards or backwards. I always have this paranoia that the train is going to stop suddenly and I have a fellow passenger in my lap. No fun. On the plus side, the doorway area is quite roomy. This comes in handy as I'm usually dragging a rollaboard suitcase in a crowded train.

Well, this station happens to dump you off in front of a major shopping centre. Okay, not quite…read moreright in front, and it isn't the only station that dumps you there (there is something like three or four of them, and the shopping centre isn't all that big either). Anyway, I landed up here a second-time when I came back, namely because there happens to be a shopping centre here as that I can go and get a sim card. Yeah, that works pretty well to be honest with you. Not a bad station, but pretty new, but then again there is a shopping centre here.

The latter is a stop on the Circle/Hammersmith & City. If you're looking for the Market, use the Market station. Thought it originally opened in 1900, the station has had a major refit and remodel not to long ago. Today, it's quite modern, even futuristic. Lots of signage, because I think most of the people visiting are here for the Westfield Shopping Centre nearby. Despite the modernization, the Tube part of the station is not step-free with escalators, though the Overground part does have lifts ("elevators" to we Americans). There are also some National Rail trains that stop here. The station is in Travelcard Zone 2 and it has the usual ticket barricades and Oyster readers you should expect for an urban station.

Yeah, I'm going to say that is is like another Underground station, and sure there are Youtubers…read morethat can produce a fifteen minute video on a station like this, but honestly, I'm not one of them. It's on the stretch of line between Hammersmith and Paddington, and a lot of the stations along this stretch are pretty much the same. Still, at least you can get frequent trains here.

However, I rather liked this station, no doubt because of all the artwork on the walls outside. It did certainly have some charm about it. This was our 3rd visit to London and we just loved this station and it's dual, very convenient…read morelines. First, the Piccadilly is direct from LHR. So that is already a plus, no need for the Heathrow Express or the Elizabeth Line. You have access to Cromwell Road for a short stroll to the Natural History Museum & the V&A. Stores in Kensington, north to Kensington High Street, Notting Hill is walkable, you can head west to Richmond etc. The station is also completely accessible, where you do not have any steps from platform to street, which not every station can say. Right outside of the station are a few fast food stores and pubs. That side of Cromwell is not particularly lovely, but when you cross you can feel that it is more residential and less commercial. With the Piccadilly & District Lines together, you can navigate to many areas of the city. I liked staying near Earl's Court and preferred it to the more Eastern parts of the city near Tower Bridge or Shoreditch.
