It also had a couple of decent beers on tap as well, which, once again, should be all that surprising. Yet, with all the bonuses, this certainly wasn't a favourite pub. In fact, I found that the service was somewhat lacking, at least when I was here. Sure, it was midday, but honestly, I sort of was expecting better.

I think it's gotten a bad wrap by Gen Y in particular. You can always rely on The Paddo, the drinks reasonably priced, the music is decent, there is always a free pool table, the restaurant serves above average pub food and it's in a great location. The smoking area is massive and equipped with screens to satisfy those watching a game, plus there is a gaming area out the back and decent parking lot. The service staff are always friendly and willing to help out, they do everything with a smile which is more than you get at a lot if restaurants in Paddington. The decor is pub meets theatre meets adult contemporary, strange combination, but it works with the cow boy hats the service staff wear.. All in all, a pretty cool pub.

Sure, Australia is a vast continent, but the fact that there is a massive desert between Brisbane and the west coast it is probably not wise for the inexperienced to set off from here and cross the entire continent (you generally go around the coast). As for the pub, well, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that fantastic either. Mind you, I quite liked the building, and I would always admire it as I walked past in the morning to catch a train and go on one of my adventures. However by the time I got back the place would be closed. I finally managed to have a drink here on my last night in Brisbane and I must admit that the craft beer bar was pretty impressive. However it is more of an after work pub than one for the night owls since it does close pretty early.

I guess he is a regular because as a regular there is no pub like your local pub - I ought to know, I've had a few myself. Well, even though this is the first and only time I have ever been to this pub I must say that I quite liked it. In fact it reminded me of those old pubs back in the day before they commercialised them and turned them into family affairs and gambling dens. Okay, there isn't any beer garden, but the pool table and the old bar with the stools around it make it look like one of those cosy pubs where you could while away your time. Mind you, when I was there it was basically empty, but then again it was the middle of the day and I assume all the regulars were off at work.

My first discovery was the take-away coffee shop that they have out the front for those who are on their way to work. I've never seen a pub set one of them up before, and I though that was pretty cool. Mind you, I wasn't looking for a coffee, I was actually looking for lunch, and the owners were more than happy to oblige. They have an assortment of beers of tap, and even offered to give me a taste of one that I hadn't had before to make sure that if I were to buy a pint I would actually enjoy it. This is something that not many of them do - if you order it they give it to you, and if you don't like it then tough. The meals were awesome. I always like my steaks well done, and they certainly cooked it exactly the way I liked it, and my brother thought the sausages were pretty good as well. This is definitely a pub that I would recommend visiting if you happen to be up in Ipswich - it is well worth the time.
