The Local Thai Lounge - Chicken satay skewers

Bought a Groupon so wanted to check this place out. Tiny place but wasn't expecting much anyway as…read morewe were in Windsor for the day. Quaint thai fusion restaurant with a relatively small bar area located in a plaza. I called ahead to book a reservation as it was required. He wanted to know if we were celebrating anything and I let him know we were heading there to celebrate a birthday. Said he was going to arrange for something special like complimentary dessert for the person celebrating their birthday. 'That person' happened to be sitting in the car when we called so overheard it and was looking forward to it. We get there and of course there was no point in booking the reservation or having that conversation because the other manager has no idea about this and wasn't told anything or so we were told when we were leaving. He apologized and took two drinks off the bill after we asked him to, smh. The food was forgettable. The chicken satay needs to get off their menu! I guess I'm spoilt with Thai restaurants in the city so I didn't value it as much as locals there do. After a meh meal we were waiting for this dessert that was going to be offered but not too hopeful about the taste, instead we were brought the bill and we were confused why they would even offer it (?!) maybe it's a good thing coz we probably would've abandoned the dessert like the food. The only thing we liked about this restaurant was the owners father / uncle who seemed to also be playing server and was very sweet. 0 on the food, 0 on the value for money, 0 for the owner and manager who didn't bother to make things right by yourself or follow up with a courtesy call.

Tl; dr: Poor service and even worse food. There is no reason you should ever eat here…read more Service: The service was poor but not horrible. We were sat in a reasonable amount of time and were able to give our order about 10 minutes later. Could have been quicker, but not a deal breaker Server checked in only once during the meal and my water glass remained empty for most of dinner (I did order a drink as well). As we were finishing up, we asked to have the rest of our food wrapped up (will need two sittings to stomach this) and we're simply handed two Styrofoam boxes. If their prices were cheaper or if they didn't bill themselves as an upper tier "lounge" type venue this could have been acceptable, but as it is, I expected better service. It reminds me of when a full priced grocery store like super store makes you bag your own groceries. The Food: The Tom Yom Chicken soup tasted like the chef simply dumped some lemon grass into a bowl of tomato soup. 1.5/5 on the soup. Peanut Chicken Stir Fry: I ate here after spending about 3 days in the hospital and can honestly say I preferred the hospital food. Chicken was among the rubberiest I've ever tasted. The peanut sauce was watered down and did little to save the dish. And despite ordering a 5/10 for spice there was not even a hint of any kick to it. The only redeeming quality here is that the vegetables did taste fresh and were likely not frozen. 0/5 on the peanut chicken. Price: 12 to 15 dollars for most mains. 4 to 8 for appetizers. Portions were medium or medium small.

The food is absolutely the best Chinese I have ever tasted. Actually I was shocked because we were…read moredriving around the area and found it by accident. The service was amazing. I will definitely be going back and bringing all my friends!

Popped in today for lunch and was greeted immediately upon arrival by a fantastic staff member (who…read moreturned out to be our waitress as well). We were promptly seated and a drink order was placed. The restaurant is very clean and is larger than it looks from the outside. The menu is massive. As there were three of us and we couldn't agree on shared dishes, we decided to order individual combination plates....I think there's over 20 different options and the waitress knew all of them. Combination plates come with: wonton soup, egg roll (a massive one), fried rice and whatever meat you opt for. I ordered Szechuan chicken, person 2 ordered General Tso, person 3 ordered Chicken Soo Gai with a side beef dish. Not one of us could finish our meals due to huge portion size. Our waitress also brought out a noodle dish, free of charge, for us to sample. She checked on us frequently and was an absolute hoot (when one of us asked for an extra napkin, she joked that it was $10, cash only). The reason for the loss of 1 star was for the following reason....both my Szechuan chicken and the General Tso chicken, which we both listed as spicy, were very mild...no heat to them at all. Next time I order, I'll ask them to crank up the heat! I will go back when I need my next Chinese Food kick.
