The "deal": What makes this place different? I admit I haven't visited many dog parks in Tampa except Davis Island-but this one is super convenient and easy to get to, plus its HUGE if you include the rest of Rowlett Park. --------------- All kinds of folks, most taking good care of their pups (picking up after them, watching them, correcting bad behavior). Haven't seen a fight yet. Our usual visit on a weekday morning is decidedly quiet, weekends in the morning pretty quiet as well. Afternoon is when you see more dogs-you also see more mosquitoes (seriously bring bug spray if you happen to come close to sundown). Make sure to bring a towel-your dog will get muddy around the fountain and dirt. Overall this is a nice size park if you want to do some training or just let your dogs sniff around-keep in mind depending on the time of day you may not see many dogs. I also suggest walking the paved trails along the Hillsborough river for a nice little break and some more exercise with your dog (although keep them away from the water), there are gators and they move fast. If you have kids and an extra set of eyes you can have them hang out at the playground (there are several) while someone hangs out with the dog in the dog park or walks the trail. The Atmosphere: Pretty open area, well shaded. About 3 picnic bench tables (2 in shade, close to the water, one in the sun). One water fountain (2 humans, one dog, plus a few bowls left for water). Can get a little muddy around the water. About two bag stations one in the front entrance, another at the end of the park. A few obstacle courses for later and smaller dogs in the small dog park. Tip: Don't forget the bug spray, towel, and extra poop bags if you want to walk the rest of the park. read more

I recently brought my dogs to this park. It's a huge space for them to run and play or chase squirrels. There isn't much grass but as long it's not wet from rain it's pretty clean. We saw no trash on the ground. The fence is well maintained. There are multiple water stations for the dogs. We love the big shade trees! read more

Tell me how we come to this park EVERY WEEKEND and today this girl walks in with her dog with a muzzle on. Take it off. He proceeds to attack not 1 but 3 dogs. The owners all leave. Not her and her dog. Then come after my dog while I reach in to get him away from my pup. (Mind you she goes to doggy daycare never has had any issues, was holding her stick standing next to me never EVER shown aggression towards a soul) and then her dog tries to grab onto me. "Sorry girl" is her reply? This park and the goers are actually some of the most amazing dog parents I've met. But this chick and her dog should have left after the first incident. Not the other owners who's dogs were attacked. Debating calling HCSO but I feel If she is EVER there again while we are it will not be anyone leaving but her. read more

I'm surprised Rowlett Dog Park hasn't been reviewed yet. It's a hidden gem of Dog Parks and one of my favorite places to take my dog. The park itself is pretty big and has a few miles of walking trails for your dog on the leash. Right in the middle of the park is the fenced dog park, with separate areas for big and small dogs. Although it's smaller than many other dog parks, what makes it different is the atmosphere - it's sort of located on a "hill" (that's what we call a 10 foot elevation change in Florida) with several trees and shrubby areas that dogs like to explore and do their business in. Mornings and evenings get pretty busy and there is definitely a set of "regulars" that I see every time I go there so it's almost always guaranteed that my pup will have someone to play with. It's clean, fun, and a great location for those of us living in the area. Recommended! read more

This is a nice, small dog park with plenty of shade. This is one of the smaller public dog parks in the bay area, but has enough room to play fetch. The good: Plenty of shade, ample seating, convenient parking, obstacle course, and it's located in a nice area. Restrooms are located nearby, which is a bonus! The not so good: The water station is a little difficult to keep water in a bowl. There are usually bowls, but filling them with the fountain is difficult and time consuming. This could easily be fixed by adding a faucet/hose. With only the water situation being a hassle, and everything else being great, I thought a 4 star rating would be appropriate. Rowlett Park and Dog park is a hidden oasis that I feel a lot more people should know about, but fear they may and then I wouldn't have free reign! lol The park is well kept, with many trails to walk/run bike on. Many scenic views of the Hillsboro river as well. The dog park is a great size for both small and large dogs. My dog, is a bigger dog and she loves to run and chase her frisbee all over this vast land....this is fenced in by the way. But my dog think she is the ruler of the world in this park. The park itself is a great place to hold celebrations or cookouts with many pavilions and grills to set up in. It also offers a great forest like landscape that served well for the recent filming of my Survivor application video. Yep. You heard me. :) I like to run here a lot as the trails wind in and out of the tree canopy and offers a different vibe to a 3 mile run than on Bayshore or around my neighborhood. Definitely check this park out for your dog and/or yourself! read more

It is very big! There always tends to be another dog and people are usually nice. The downside is the other people at the park. It can be sketchy and I do get nervous sometimes when I'm by myself. read more

My boyfriend and I found this gem of a dog park last night. It is PERFECT!! It's situated in a beautiful location with picnic tables, trails, pavilions, and restrooms nearby. It has the largest fenced in dog area I've seen yet in the Tampa bay area. There is plenty of shade, water fountains and bowls for the dogs, and even an agility/obstacle course section. It was clean and seemed like most owners picked up after their dogs. We will be coming here often! read more

Was driving through the neighborhood one day and happened to end up at this park. It's decently sized with a nice walking/jogging path. Similar to most of Tampa's parks in that it hasn't seen much renovation aside from the playgrounds since it was first opened, I'm assuming. Don't take that as me saying its run down, it has the charm that older parks in Tampa have and is full of great places to sit right by the river. Beautiful trees as well. read more

I went to this dog park three times over the weekend and all three visits were great. Sure, the neighborhood isn't the nicest, but the park itself is nice. The park is big. I like the agility stuff they have, though my dog was definitely not interested in it. I've had some negative experiences with other dog parks in the past, mostly with dogs being aggressive, but my three visits here were good. The owners were all attentive and paying attention to what their dogs were doing. I didn't hear a single growl. All the dogs seemed to get along. The park is big enough that you can play fetch with your dog while the other dogs play elsewhere. So far I really love this park and look forward to future visits. read more

I took my pup here and she had a blast. I don't care for the stories associated with the surrounding park however I had no issues. small agility course and large field for fetch. Warning! there's a huge mud hole that's by the water fountain that your dog will want to get into to cool off so be prepared for a bath after. read more

Really nice fenced in area for the dogs to romp off leash and even a tiny agility set up for some more ambitious pups. I did have a fairly negative experience with another dog and owner but that's the risk you take when you let unfamiliar dogs run off leash together. Luckily injuries were minor and for the most part the dogs are friendly and the owners are responsible. The park itself is large and beautiful and I would 100% bring my dog out again to explore the trails even if the dog park itself can at times be a toss up. Well maintained and clean area! read more

This is a beautiful large park that is more than a dog park. We don't have a dog, but I can tell the area for pets is spacious and very nice, with space to run and things for your dog to check out. There are lots of picnic tables, shelters, trails and areas to enjoy with your friends and family too. Very nice! read more

This is a very pretty park. Very good for nice long walks. However, they do not provide soap or toilet paper in the bathrooms. There are no bowls for water along the way for your pet, a huge lack of doggy bags and hand sanitizer and shortage of garbage cans for that big of a park. No machine for female supplies either. So you'll probably only want to stay for 20 minutes. read more

This is the second dog park that my husband and I have visited since we moved to Tampa. Between the two this one is definitely the nicest. There are two separate areas. One is for larger dogs and the smaller area is for smaller dogs. The park is capped very clean. Additionally there is a water fountain and various obstacle course items for the dogs to play on. The only downside during our visit was that there were not very many other dogs present. Perhaps it was just the time of day that we went early on a Saturday morning. read more

Almost favorite dog park in the area, second only to the dog beach! The rough little agility area is a huge bonus. Lots of tree shade, benches, a nice watering station, a little bridge. Love it. Have witnessed several dog fights however. Once saw a dog rip a guy's shirt off amid a brawl. It was awful...and awesome. (The dog was fine). Be attentive of the weird dogs and their oblivious owners and all is well. Attentive dog owners tend to congregate. A nice social dog park for both dogs and people. Also nice to take a walk to the dam afterwards. read more

This park is really great, it's shaded with huge trees, has benches and it's kept up real good as far as maintenance except the water fountains. I have tried to contact maintenance to get them fixed. Now It has water but the dog fountain needs repairing underneath it because it has water running at the bottom of it but works good enough to get your dog water. Now three days ago the human drinking part clogged up, who wants to stick their face into leaves and crap to get water? I have tried to email and call but all the voicemails are full so I'm now having to put this on the reviews. I'm so sorry about having this on here park and recreation but you need somebody to answer the phones. read more

This is an amazing dog park. At first I thought it wasn't all that great but after walking through the entire park, my dog and I loved it! There's places to walk/run with your dog on leash. Then there's also a place where you can let your dog play without a leash. Defiantly one of the best parks in the area. read more
