A real gem of a pub hidden away up a back street at the top of town.
Recently changed hands, this pub is never going to win any awards for most popular place in Henley. The regulars though are warm and friendly and the beer is well kept. There are half a dozen tables to one side of the bar and a reasonably sized beer garden out back.
Heaters and a roof mean that the smokers shelter is comfortable, and there is sky sports available too.
If you fancy reading the paper over a decent pint, then this is the place for you.
Alert! The pub is closing down to be "re-developed". The addition of disabled facilities and six en-suite bedrooms could indicate that this tradition gem of a boozer, could be turning into a "gastropub". News to follow.
Emergency over. The Barge is back - or my deposit account, as I prefer to call it.
The only fault that I can find with the place is the "advice" that Mrs Aardvark gives me when I return from a "quick pint".
Even the dog heads for the door when I walk past now. read more
