It's on the line from London to Weymouth, and received awards for being the nicest medium-sized station on a couple of occasion. Indeed, it's distinctive for its beautiful turquoise and blue bridge that crosses the platforms. So it's pretty gorgeous, especially from a certain angle, and does a great job for the people who live in these suburban areas. It also works well with cyclists, and is close to Southampton and Dorchester and the Beautiful New Forest.

There are also special events at Valentines and Christmas. The Christmas Special is really lovely with mince pies and mulled wine for the adults and juice and biscuits for the children. Each child gets to see Father Christmas and the gift that they receive is remarkably good quality. There is a small playground on site and a cafe. There is also a shop selling paintings and children's toys. A really enjoyable day out, especially the Thomas themed days when the trains are dressed up as the charaters from Thomas The Tank Engine.

The display boards are always working and the staff on the desk are friendly and helpful. There are a couple of vending machines which are reasonably priced and plenty of seating inside the terminal. The toilets are a decent sized and always clean and tidy. Even though it is near the Town Centre, there is no trouble there and you feel very safe.

Also, why do empty buses rattle past my window all day (when in service) but they never drive past the bus stop when I'm waiting for one? No joke, I just looked out my window again and there was yet another, with not a sole on board!! I've been at the bus stop from 13:48 and finaly caught a number 2 bus at 15:04. When I told the driver I've been waiting for the bus for a whole hour he just shrugged and said "it is very busy in town". I get that its not his fault, and I'm used to 2 or even 3 busses not arriving, its beyond me as to what has to happen to skip 10 busses in a row. I was also suppossed to start my shift at 3pm. With this Steam Railway no less…read more This is a little old steam railway on the Isle of Wight, so if you're making the Isle of Wight your holiday destination, this would be a great part of it. It's one of the many Heritage Railways in the UK and one of the prettiest. I've loved it for a very long time and probably always will. It's actually a good way to get around the island as well, which is funny because it's not really a method of transportation per se, and yet it is because it's such a small island and a lot of people don't bring their cars over here.

Do I miss it heck, yes - the intoxicating unique smells, the noises, the sounds, especially the thump of huge slabs of heavy metal, hitting heavy metal yet staying unmarked and gold, red and black lacquered steam engines, dozens of yards long, breathing and hissing as if alive. Many's the time I got to be up with the driver and coalman as we chugged along - the intense fiery heat, sulphur smells and coal being fed continuously - real men of steel with hands that could crush you. Here at the Isle of Wight is a beautifully preserved railway with lovingly restored steam engines with comfortable period carriages and charming rural stations. It is charming and worth supporting but I suspect with its location it'll rarely ever draw a crowd. The staff are dressed in traditional Southern Railway uniforms from a different era of time that will never return. All that's left is five miles of Steam Railway and an electrified eight mile main line from Ryde to Shanklin from a railway system which once extended over 55 miles of mostly rural Wight. The first line opened in 1862 between Cowes and Newport and in 1900 a second railway delivered a complete island rail service. It's now a revenant to haunt those of us on what we had and stupidly allowed greedy politics to ruin letting them enrich only themselves - those who know the price of everything and the value of nothing; some things will never change as long as we stay stupid and the evidence is right in front of us from 1O Downing Street to Mar a Lago. The price of our stupid is already intolerable and fast becoming incalculable as we lurch toward fascism which is dictatorship lite.

Keynsham station itself now has an information post on each platform where you can press a button to get train information - which makes you feel just a little bit less cut-off than before (when there was basically no way of finding out if there was a problem with the trains, or when you might expect the next one to arrive). I'm therefore going to nudge up my star rating for the station to three instead of two!

One of the better taxi services in Poole…read more So far they have not disgraced themselves at schools, and seem to be polite and courteous and the cars are clean. They turn up on time, and take a decent route - no going round the houses. I recommend them, and their number is easy to remember!
