Very fraudulent for this landlord/company to misrepresent the internals of this apartment thus misleading us into signing the contract. Because they work on contingency they can't take a case just because you think you have one, they take them if they think they can help you (win). Would you work for a stranger for free? I had an EXTREMELY hard time getting anyone to take me as a client, even after EEOC said I had a case. What I found, was their intake specialist (whom was wonderful, and name alludes me (my apologies) asked the pertinent questions that actually got to the core of what they could work with. Which is why we seek their help to begin with. There's a reason they say the bar exam is difficult to pass. So you have to be honest with yourself, is the way you were treated unlawful, or is it just someone being an a**hole. Unfortunately, being an a**hole isn't against the law. My lawyer Gary Martoccio, and his intake specialist were empathetic, and real. Gary outwardly expressed that although you can't put a price tag on what you may have lost monetarily and emotionally, he lets you know what realistically is going to deliver the hardest punch. But, he also heard me out on my thoughts and what I thought may be a possibility. There was constant communication even when I thought I understood something only to call back 5 minutes later and ask the same question a different way. One of the biggest things I left with was the ultimate compliment, Gary said he was impressed with the work I put into getting my voice heard and that I definitely did that. Because of what I experienced, I was left pretty beat down, by him saying that to me he let me know I can and should believe in myself again. My concern is not that the firm ultimately declined to take my case firms are entitled to determine which matters they handle. My concern is how the intake call was conducted. The person I spoke with did not clearly introduce himself or explain his role, and throughout the conversation I felt as though I was being questioned in a dismissive and condescending manner rather than speaking with someone genuinely trying to understand my concerns. I actually considered ending the call early because of how uncomfortable the interaction felt. After taking my information, he told me he was putting me on hold while he spoke with his supervisor. The hold lasted less than a minute before he returned and told me the firm would not take the matter and directed me elsewhere. Given how brief that was, the entire interaction felt extremely rushed and impersonal. Again, my issue is not the firm's decision not to represent me. It is the quality of the intake experience. People contacting an employment law firm may already be dealing with stressful workplace situations. Even when a firm determines that it cannot assist someone, prospective clients should still be treated with professionalism, respect, and basic empathy.
