We attended a Christmas party this evening at The Virgil, where Roundabout Catering provided the food and this was an excellent choice! The bar had several options including some specialty drinks not just your basic beer and wine bar. Greg, was also incredible at crafting a mocktail that made me feel included in the revelry. We started with an elaborate appetizer and hors d'oeuvres bar with so many wonderful flavors. I personally loved the basil cheddar, fresh pesto, the cheeses, dates, apricots and the best hummus I think I've ever had. Dinner was buffet style with Little Gem Salad, Orzo Risotto (my favorite), herbed chicken breast in a champagne beurre blanc sauce and Tri-tip with Chimichurri. Desserts were Apple Crisps and Candy Cane Squares. My favorite part was the appetizers but I did try a bit of everything except the salad and grilled vegetables. Both looked great and the husband said the flavors were perfect. The orzo risotto was my absolute favorite. I can't explain how flavorful this was made with cherry tomatoes, pesto (oh, that's why!), parmesan and orange zest. When we have them cater, we are definitely going to have this as a option. My second favorite was the chicken, which was also my husband's favorite. It was so tender and juicy. My husband said it was moist, but alot of people hate that word. It had just the right amount of herbed spices. I may have made tri tip my third just because of my specific diet, but it was also very tasty. You could tell the chimichurri was freshly made. The tri tip was perfectly cooked to a medium and medium rare. That too is tender and juicy. Finally I can't say enough about the candy cane square. I'm usually not a fan of peppermint desserts but I'll make an exception for the oreo crust and peppermint cream cheese fluff. The apple Crisp was made with fresh apples that really let the natural flavor dominate the palette. There wasn't a lot of sugar on the apples, but they were really sweet. The crisp topping was buttery and sugary to sweeten the dessert without sweetening the apples. I found that mixing the two desserts together was actually pretty phenomenal. All in all, I don't think you can go wrong with this caterer. They put a lot of thought into their menus, and it shows. read more

Enjoyed Roundabout catering's food today at a 50th wedding celebration at the elm house. We were served a variety of flatbreads. My favorite was the sausage and tomato it was absolutely delicious. There was also a chicken flatbread, a mushroom flatbread, a prosciutto flatbread. A couple more I did not try. There was also a very plentiful and varied charcuterie with roasted vegetables and olives, cheeses, various crackers and garlic breads. There was also a tray of berries and other finger foods. The food was absolutely delicious. everything was fresh and served in plentiful portions. The servers came around and picked up the plates and napkins as we ate. I highly recommend this company. their food was topped off with little creme brulees which had various toppings. My favorite was the raspberry sauce. Just delicious. read more

Our wedding reception was Lavor Day weekend 2023 and we had our event at the North Tahoe Event Center. We had Roundabout as our caterer and so happy with the tasty food, service from the amazing staff, and professionalism from Rick throughout the entire process. We had our initial taste test with Roundabout 6 months before our wedding - I had forgotten how amazing all of the food was... and was pleasantly surprised all over again at our wedding! We had passed appetizers of stuffed mushrooms and shrimp cocktail (both were raved about), then the flat iron steak with chimichurri sauce and a chicken with ver blanc sauce for the main course. That was served with fried brussel sprouts with bacon, ratatouille and roasted fingerling potatoes. Our guests all commented on how wonderful the food was! THIS review is for ONLY for the prepared meal delivery plan from GymRatFoods.com, and it is long overdue. We enjoyed 4 weeks of food in April 2019. I've held on to my receipt in a pile of papers because this plan really deserves a review. First off, YES the food is REALLY GOOD. However this is the only pre-prepared delivered meal plan I've ever tried so I have no comparison. Although I DO know the difference between good food and bad food. AND THIS WAS DEFINITELY GOOD. My only issue was that the portions seemed to weigh much more than what was printed on the wrapper. Normally a good thing. Right? Getting more than you paid for? But if you're try to loose weight it's not good to eat more than you think you're eating. So if I did this again, to loose weight, I'd definitely ask about how I'm supposed to know if I've been given correct portions. I was doing it mostly to get off sugar. To just stop eating too much sugar. Retrain myself to eat more healthy. And to give myself meal planning ideas to get out of my food rut. So one thing that was awesome was that they allowed me to share my 4 week plan with my husband. Meaning, we each got 2 weeks of food. They allowed us to order different meal plans. So we each got 2 weeks of our chosen plan. They allowed us to substitute all the red meat and pork for chicken. That's a lot of allowing. The only thing they DIDN'T allow (almost a year ago) was a VEGETARIAN option. There was kinda a lotta meat if you don't usually eat much meat. So I'd probably have a hard time getting my husband to do it again since he's basically a vegetarian. He had a hard time. But he is also a very good sport and so he sacrificed 2 weeks for me. I did the full 1200 calories a day (3 meals a day + snacks) X 6 days a week. If I did it again I'd do the 1200 calories per day (equivalent) but only 2 meals a day no snacks x 5 days a week. I just looked it up and it's only $375 for ALL 4 WEEKS. That plan doesn't provide the whole 1200 calories a day...because it skips breakfast and snacks. I'd rather pay less and get less and just fill in a few items I'm craving as needed. A few times I froze the meals because we had to eat out. They were still great even though they had been frozen. I paid extra for home delivery. The fresh cooked meals are delivered in plastic bins with frozen cold packs to keep them cool. They are delivered twice a week. Even getting meals for two people we always had plenty of space in our refrigerator for them. I recommend you go into the office in Sparks and sit down and look at the menus and ask questions. They will show you what actual meals look like. They give you a couple free samples to take home. That pretty much sold me. I tasted it and thought "I CAN DEFINITELY DO THIS". Ok. So Roundabout is the "cafeteria" restaurant at Tesla. I work there and take advantage of ordering there often. The food is always good. They offer pre packaged grab n go food as well as made to order. The taco bar is delicious. Tostadas, tacos, burritos...yum. Their salads are large and loaded well with proteins and such. Pasta bar is fantastic. We are lucky to have such a treat available to us for lunch. It is a bit pricey for "cafeteria" food but good. Employees are always super nice and they keep everything crazy clean. Can't post a picture because we are not allowed to, but it's a cute little set up. I'm a fan. read more

Roundabout catered our wedding of ~ 120 people at the North Lake Tahoe Event Center in June of 2023. The service and food were excellent. We decided on the family-style service, with 3 appetizers and a popcorn bar: apps were beef on toasted bread cracker, the watermelon spoon, and the mushroom arancini; mains of chicken and salmon; and sides of asparagus, squash, and fingerling potatoes; a starter salad and bread was also included. Rick at Roundabout led the event for us. We had a wonderful tasting with Rick at the Roundabout facility in Sparks. Day-of activities went along without an issues. Apps came out on time. Folks RAVED about the salad all night long, which included a beautiful artichoke. The dinner course came out hot, tasty, and with PLENTY of food. Bartenders kept the line moving very well all night. The wait staff was attentive, though faded into the background. Overall, we could not have been happier with the service, the food, and the attention to detail. Friday last, Vesta and I shot the Microsoft Christmas party. I know, it was after Christmas, but I'm told some companies like to have their party after and Microsoft Reno is one of 'em. They had their event at the Rancharrah Estate, where they have that very famous Mansion, which is one very big house, 58,000 square feet big. Microsoft peopled the party with two hundred and fifty of their employees and they had limos coming and going all night long. The people were dressed to the nines and out for an evening of fun and fine dining. Which is where Roundabout Catering comes in. Microsoft didn't want a sit down dinner, just hors d'oeuvres for their people to munch on as they schmoozed and oohed and ahed the house the Harrah's built, while the band, which consisted of two kids who could really play, alternated between Eagles and Pink Floyd songs. Roundabout set up food stations throughout the mansion, a mac and cheese station here, a beef, pork, salmon and potatoes station there, a salad station here, a risotto station there, an antipasto station here the desert station on the grand piano. And, of course, they had a full bar, but you didn't have to fight the crowd to belly up to it if you wanted a drink, because Roundabout had their people walking the floor with wine and beer on trays. We had dinner before we left for the event, because we're professionals and professionals work at events like this, they don't chow down. However, as soon as I saw Natalie, who works for Roundabout, I knew who was catering the event and I knew I'd be sneaking food all night long. And I did. Roundabout are one of the best caterers in America and not only does the faire they prepare threaten to send you to gourmet heaven, the presentation is as good as any you'd find in the world's finest restaurants. But fine food and prestigious presentation will only get you so far in the catering business. To really succeed, to make the event a caterer is catering a real success, he or she has to have people pleasing people working for them and it goes without saying they have to be people pleasing people themselves. No matter how delicious something is, if it's served by a grumpy grump with a food stained shirt, you're not gonna take away a nice picture of the server or the food she served. The Roundabout people all were clean, pressed uniforms. And Chef Colin Smith and his wife MaryBeth have outdone themselves with their choice of staff. Every lickin' stickin' person in their employ serves with a smile and by the time the events they cater are over, the guests leave with a tinge of regret, because deep down inside they don't wanna go. ----- A note about the photos I've posted: I didn't plan on reviewing Roundabout Catering when Vesta and I showed up at Rancharrah, but as the evening wore on and as I interacted with their staff, I began to think I might. This is the second year in a row Roundabout Catering generously donated some delicious food to us so our teachers and staff would feel the love during Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week this past week. I hired them after they catered a wedding we attended in the spring. Our event was this past weekend. They arrived on time, everything was as I had ordered it. They passed appetizers that were delicious. The buffet was fine. The table was very plain, just the chafing dishes and servers. Caterers in the past had always at least had some greenery on the table, so that was disappointing. When they cleared the table only one server was doing it. She was trying so hard to keep up with it, and one of my guests got up to help her. My biggest problem with them was the fact that I had ordered fried spring rolls so I had to " rent" the fryer from them so they could fry them. That was an extra $125. Then for my 5 hot items for the dinner I had to " rent" the chafing dishes from them for $30 each for an additional $150. I've been entertaining all of my adult life and never have I had to rent things for them to do their jobs. We chose Roundabout based upon the recommendation of our wedding planner, Hunter & Company, and they delivered amazing food and service. We started with reviewing their menus, then tailored it to our needs - every dish had a connection to our travels, and they customized the menu to our tastes, all within a very reasonable price that met our budget. Beth & Chef Colin hosted us for a fun tasting where we fine tuned the menu. Upon our wedding day, the Roundabout team provided six passed apps, a salad station, a hot food station (Argentine Asado), and fun ice cream sandwiches as we opted not to have a traditional wedding cake. We did not want a seated dinner, and they provided a classy meal with beautiful place settings / gold cutlery! The servers of the passed apps didn't have much travelling to do as our guests would chase them down for the tasty treats! (This is not a knock on their service, but a compliment to how amazing the food tasted!) A week later - our friends are still telling us this was the best wedding meal ever. They catered my daughter's wedding. The food was tasteless, cold, some tables didn't get served all the dishes and the wine wasn't poured at the tables. The signature beer that was supposed to be served wasn't even ordered. The service staff was slow and unresponsive. One server was either really tired or under the influence. Many guests commented on her behavior. The bartender didn't appear at the reception for the first hour. I had to leave my meal repeatedly to ask the Roundabout coordinator about different issues. When I called Roundabout after the wedding I got no return call. I gave up and wrote a letter to Colin. He called me back and left a message he was sorry and would make it right. That was three years ago and I haven't heard from Roundabout since. Although nothing can "make it right" since this was a once in a lifetime event, some effort to follow up would seem appropriate. This was a once in a lifetime event that was carefully planned and every detail attended to. The poor food and poor service ruined our beautiful day. I have waited three years to write this review in an attempt to be fair. However, after seeing a huge article about Roundabout in today's paper, I am moved to share our experience. The Smith's are nice folks whose business has grown dramatically in the last few years. I am happy for their success but their poor food and service ruined a special day. Update: After posting this review, I got a reply (above) from one of the Roundabout staff saying they would contact me privately. It has been a month and still no contact. My office gets lunch brought in once a week for us (I know it's amaze balls). We've been bouncing around from chain restaurants to local caterers for awhile now. Generally the food is good but not stellar and really there's no one that I've wanted to try again. Until now! Holy beejeebus Roundabout NAILED it. They brought in a classic (and super tasty) caesar salad, freaking amazing calzones, AND tiramisu for dessert. First of all the calzones were huge, second of all they gave us options-meat, veggie, and gluten free. Gluten free was basically a dough-less calzone but hey-super cool for the few people in my office who are GF to get real food! I opted for the veggie and I was so, so happy. You know how you can look at food and just KNOW it's going to be good? That's how this calzone was. It was cooked to perfection-the perfect golden crust and melty cheese. The veggies tasted fresh too. I couldn't even finish it. Half is in the fridge for me to enjoy later. They also brought a tray of GORGEOUS grilled veggies. Despite being full I tried one-just to try it and let me tell you what. That grilled asparagus tasted just like summer. Like summer I say! Everything felt healthy too. Not greasy or fried or over sauced. It was thoughtfully seasoned with quality ingredients./ They definitely don't cut corners. Oh, of course I saved room for tiramisu. It was glorious. The food baby and I were quite pleased. Overall everyone here loved it as was apparent by the lack of leftovers and the double servings of desserts. I hope Roundabout becomes our "forever" caterer. It saddened me to read a negative report on this vendor. I have operated, for many years, a unique, highly regarded, 13-acre wedding venue in Historic Nevada City, CA. During this time, I've come to understand and greatly appreciate "professionalism" and "excellence" in catering. It does NOT get any better than Roundabout Catering! Their food is always fresh, local when possible, their equipment is impressive (tour their stainless steel, mobile kitchen!) and VERY IMPORTANT TO ME - their staff is beautifully trained, presentable, and respectfully uniformed - no baggy shorts, no baseball caps on backward, just a nicely attired, efficient staff in suitable clothing with company logo. ALL OF THEM COURTEOUS AND POLITE, TOO! (I have never understood how a client can spend a small fortune on a beautiful wedding, then settle for an inappropriate caterer with a sloppy staff in tow.) Aug. 10, 2013, today: Roundabout outdid themselves here on my estate: They began by setting up beverages and light appetizers in The Rose Garden for arriving guests, who soon moved to The Wedding Lawn. We had Roundabout Catering cater our wedding on August 14, 2015. Upon first conversation they were extremely kind and helpful. They also gave us a tour of the facility right away, which was much appreciated. Very willing to help us stick with our budget (which we went over anyway, our own choosing), and showed us how the prices would add up based on what menu we chose (as I assume most places will, I was just excited to see it done so I didn't have to do it myself), and very helpful when suggesting other things we may need for the wedding as well. They were not pushy about us using them, but very respectable when checking in about a decision. The options available are numerous and all looked very delicious. We decided to choose them and got to meet with Chef Colin. He, like all his other staff was very kind and helpful. We chose a BBQ style buffet in which we had brisket, chicken, cornbread, etc. I can't even remember it all. We chose this for the adult guests at our wedding, and a macaroni bar for the kids. Chef Colin helped us customize the macaroni bar to what kids would be more open to eating as toppings. Wedding day arrives. They were on time! (I was worried about anything going late that day of course), So I very much appreciate that. The food was very good, had excellent flavor, and there was plenty! The staff were very kind to us and our guests. There were really only two downsides, the food was a tad cold for my liking, but wasn't enough to upset me on a global scale haha, and the second thing was the cornbread. Mind you, I absolutely LOVE cornbread. My cousin (when she lived with me) used to think I was high because I'd be up at 3am making cornbread, solely on the fact that I loved it so much. Anyways, the cornbread from Roundabout. It had peppers in it. I've never in my life heard of cornbread with peppers in it. And unfortunately, I am allergic to them. Nothing happened, thankfully, as it's not severe allergy, but enough to where I choose to stay away from them so I don't risk anything. I was unaware of the peppers until I bit into the cornbread. I didn't even like the flavor of it, the peppers just made it taste off anyway. It was upsetting not knowing about the fact that peppers were in it. Even if I wasn't allergic, I wouldn't have asked for it because of the taste. I do not even remember being asked about allergies in the menu-decision process, so that could be changed. I am the Office Administrator for a company in Reno, Nevada. Every week we have lunch catered for the crew and I cannot say enough about Roundabout Catering's services and wonderful cuisine! There menu and food choices are incredible, their service unbelievable and they even cater to our vegans, vegetarian, and our gluten free people. They are always here on time, if we order a hot menu, it is brought hot and comes with all the supplies to keep it that way. Last week we had an amazing side dish, grilled vegetables and it tasted as if it came right off a summer BBQ get together! When I first inquired Roundabout catering, I couldn't believe after speaking with them what I received. A very thorough spread sheet with weeks worth of ideas for our crew. They put together everything you would need for a complete lunch menu. We received a wide variety of choices from the main dish, wonderful side dishes right down to the desert, and of course, what the vegan, vegetarians and gluten free people could choose from also.
