The docent that day, Louise gave us a lovely tour of the downstairs and we got to tour the upstairs by ourselves with some very thorough pamphlets. The mansion is very well preserved. It was a rich person's home and they valued it! There were rounded walls, insane built ins, an elevator, some wonderful art. The information presented by the museum is very thoughtful and informative. It is all done very well. My favorite thing though was the bathrooms. I loved them. I find myself daydreaming. About showering in the black and white bathroom. Which is not an experience that is available to anyone... But I wish it were There is also a gorgeous rose garden on the property. Very enjoyable. We were there for about two hours but I could have stayed a bit longer. You might have to park a short distance and walk to the house but it is all worth it

8/2/25: While visiting Rhode Island, we decided to take a side trip to Blithewold in the town of…read moreBristol. Since it had been ages since last visiting, I only had a faint recollection of the estate having incredibly beautiful gardens. Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum was established by Augustus and Bessie Van Wickle in the 1890s as their summer estate. Mr. Van Wickle made his fortune in the coal mining industry. The estate overlooks beautiful Narragansett Bay. Due to our schedule, our main focus was to just visit the special bamboo bird exhibit and gardens. We went to the admission desk. Luckily, since my friend was a Met member, we got in free. We casually mentioned, we were here to see the special bird exhibit. The staff was very friendly, but didn't make any mention of the bird exhibit. As we walked through the gardens, we saw so many beautiful flowers and lush trees. In one section, there's a large growth of stunning bamboo. As mentioned earlier, the estate had a special exhibit of six bamboo birds ranging from 15 to 30 feet in height. August 11th is the exhibit's last day. All the birds were absolutely striking in appearance. It's incredible, how these birds can be designed from bamboo. Taking one star off for the following: It was quite tiring walking the extensive grounds, due to the heat. In fact, it was difficult to make it close enough to see the sixth bird (Owl). Wish the visitor's section would've offered some type of mini tram to take you through the gardens. Even at an extra cost, it would've been worth it, due to the length of the gardens. However, Blithewold is definite must see when visiting Rhode Island.

Heard a lot of really good things about this place and this was my first year in Rhode Island and…read morewanted to do the whole Christmas thing and cut our own tree. Very slim pickings on the farm. A lot of the trees were small, had large bare spot and just didn't have what you want for an $80 price tag. The process is easy and would be alot of fun if there were a lot of trees to choose from. Was really disappointed after settling for what we could find and getting it cut that all the best looking trees were precut and located where you go to pay for your cut tree. The amount of money paid makes me feel like I won't be doing this again. Trees at Lowe's looked better and were $35 cheaper. Wish it would have been worth it, Merry Christmas.

It doesn't get any…read morefresher than this This is a very cool place that unfortunately very few people will bother to visit. That's because it's on Prudence Island, another very cool place that few people bother to visit. Rossi Farm is located on Neck Farm Road, a dirt road that basically goes nowhere. Just up to the north part of the island and then stops. It's actually a great bike ride that has great views of the bay from all directions. Even in the summer you pretty much have the whole place to yourself. The farm has cows, chickens and goats and stinks like hell in the hot weather. Not really bad but like a farm is suppose to smell in hot weather I suppose. The farm has a stand on the west side of the road and every time we have been there nobody was around. Plenty of farm creatures checking us out but no people. The stand has different things according to the time of year and supply. Great corn, eggplant, squash, tomatoes and cukes are usually found and occasionally muffins and home made bread. A great treat to enjoy when on the island. Unfortunately no water or liquid so you better bring your own. The stand is strictly self serve and has a little box to place the money. The people living on the island take advantage of the fresh veggies and bread but few visitors know about it. So the next time or probably first time you visit Prudence Island, make sure you look for Rossi's Farm if you want some fresh produce. Just watch out for the cow and goat poop and the chickens trying to peck you on the legs and you will discover a very cool farm on a very cool and uncrowded island.

I cannot say enough good things about Westport Rivers Vineyard & Winery. From the moment you arrive…read moreon their stunning property, you understand why this place is truly special. The Russell family has been crafting wine here since 1982, and that generational passion shows in every single pour. This isn't some corporate operation -- it's a fifth-generation family of vintners tending 80 acres of vineyard on a 435-acre farm , and you feel that love and care the moment you step on the grounds. The wines themselves are world-class. Their champagne-style sparkling wines are rated in the top 100 in the world and have even been served at the White House -- twice. And yet somehow they remain approachable and unpretentious. Their flagship Brut RJR offers compelling aromas of apples and toast, with fine tiny bubbles, crisp citrus, and a lengthy, satisfying finish -- at a price point that makes you feel like you've discovered a secret. The Atlantic Northeast's cool maritime climate and the farm's rich soils layered with granite over glacial outwash give the wines a gorgeous balance of luscious fruit and bright acidity that you simply won't find anywhere else. There are no wines on the planet that pair better with local New England seafood. The outdoor patio with vineyard views is absolutely beautiful , and the Friday evening Sunset Concert series makes this one of the most charming date-night or weekend destinations on the South Coast. Their winemaking philosophy uses ancient, traditional methods including those of Champagne and Burgundy -- minimal processing, maximum patience. You taste the difference. If you haven't visited Westport Rivers yet, you're missing one of Massachusetts' true treasures. Five stars isn't enough.
