Yep, that place was Brocky's, and to say that they served a pretty decent breakfast is an understatement. I even broke from my routine of simply having bacon and eggs and dived in for a pancake and I must say I was pleasantly rewarded. Those pancakes were magnificent. My friend ended up having the poached eggs, but I really couldn't get any more than 'yep, there good' out of him (though if they weren't I would have been sure to hear about it). Oh, and they also gave us a massive pot of tea with a side of water, with made the fact that they had simply dumped the tea leaves into the pot not as annoying as it normally is. This is definitely a place that I would recommend to people down this way.

There's a case of inviting looking pastries and sandwiches, and a large room with plenty of small tables. At the back are more loungey spaces. The whole place just yells "breakfast", although perhaps if I'd stopped by at noon it would have screamed "lunch" as well. You don't feel crowded, though: the place is quite large, with high ceilings, and you're not packed in like some breakfast cafe nooks are. The ladies running the show were friendly, took our order, and promptly brought out some tasty coffees and a great brekkie. I had a big bowl of baked beans with smoked ham and a slice of toast (one of my favourites); they had a few types of beans in there, mixing things up. My wife had mushrooms on toast - in fact, one giant, grilled mushroom cap, which she reported as being quite good. If you find yourself on the west end of the Great Ocean Road you could do a lot worse for breakfast.

The Wi Fi is Free and fast. The service is friendly and efficient. All the food I have eaten here is really tasty and the price is reasonable. The cakes are sensational and deliver what you would expect from a patisserie. The coffee is also really good. A very enjoyable experience.

We ended up deciding to grab a takeaway, namely because of time limitations, and that we had to be back in Melbourne that afternoon. However, they had their own little takeaway stand, which was pretty good, and that also meant that I ended up grabbing what turned out to be a rather nice cup of tea. The service was pretty good as well, and it wasn't all that expensive either. Yeah, this place turned out to be quite nice.

They sat us down and didn't offer us water and I couldn't find any. (Admittedly I didn't ask) Others were sighing that they had to get up and get their own. The eggs, bacon and vintage cheese with tomato relish on Turkish bread (which I changed to GF bread) was really tasty. It was big and it tasted great. We also ordered the brekky board. A little underwhelming. The board itself was uneven, like a chair or table. The eggs were gooey but, not that runny. The bacon was a bit fatty and could've been cooked a little longer longer.
