We were served 2 small rolls that were either stale or frozen - I love fresh rolls, theses were not, almost had to choke them down. Ordered breaded mushrooms that were machine made and so hard you could not put a fork in them. If you managed, they broke open to reveal perhaps a piece of mushroom stem, and a lot of air inside. I had the beef tips over rice which was only warm due to the hot gravy they doused everything in. No choice on rare/medium/well on the tips - which makes sense if they were packaged. Prices on web site are lower than menu. Caesar salad barely qualified (+$2 premium over garden salad) - just lettuce, dressing, and a bit of grated cheese. Waitress was pushy both before ordering and during the meal (halfway through she offered us the desert menu and after we declined informed us she would get the check - while we were still eating!). Overall very disappointed. Wife and I sighed and paid our $75 bill + a basic tip. Doubt we will ever go back.

Woke up to a gorgeous morning with the birds singing, small rabbits hopping around, etc. One of my kids wandered a little far for my liking while he took photos. Some locals said you really had to watch out for the ability to sink down and get stuck in the mud, so they helped look for him when he didn't come back to the campsite on-time. Turns out he was fine -- just lost track of time having fun exploring. :)

This is a quiet lake with no business or houses on it. There is a campground that looks nice. We drove through but didn't camp, so can't rate that part. Would like to take our boat back again sometime!

They have great recreation areas, grills, a playground, Indian mounds, hiking... Something for just about everyone. The park is very well maintained. The cabins are well-kept and perfectly sized for all but the largest of families. The cabins have a nice fire ring area with a swing away grill for cooking over wood. Alternatively, there is a charcoal grill at every cabin. There are 2 futon beds, a small kitchen, and bathrooms in each. It takes a while to get there but the country is quiet and scenic. As a weekend getaway or camping destination, I think this is one of the best in Iowa.

It was near perfect. It's a big park with a windy road that takes you to the various overlooks and parking areas. I think there's a bathroom here and they might have some more picnic spots. This large, green park is situated on the edge of town, along the Crow Creek (also named after an Indian tribe.) The park is along a big loop that you can barely fit a car down most of the way. There are plenty of places to pull off in the shade and park and get out and explore the varied landscape of Chautauqua Park. The park offers a wide range of activities, from frisbee golf, to horse and hiking trails, to soccer goals, and playgrounds. There's lots of areas to just explore, with big hills and the stream that meanders through the park. There's a little something for everyone here. The park is large enough that you can get your own area to play, or meet up with others to relax. The park seems to have a lot of history. It's clean. Not very well lit, but still feels safe since you're in this small town.
