The owner of this property management company is a total con-man. Not only did he raise the price…read moreof his rental by $300 halfway through the application process but he collected $80 of application fees without having any intention of renting to us in the first place. He bothered us for days, requesting all kinds of documents that most landlords wouldn't ask for (and I've rented 4 different apartments while in LA so I know this for a fact). When I told him that I had been very sick for a few months due to a chronic condition and that's why I had to quit my job, his response was: "You don't seem sick." This is a very rude and tone-deaf thing to say to someone who has been struggling with illness her whole life basically. To make up for this, I had ample funds in my bank account, which I showed him, and had my father as a co-signer. My father actually sent him all his info and credit reports from all three agencies. I can't help but feel I was discriminated against because of my disability. He implied that it's not just about having enough money to move in but having a certain quality of people living in his apartment. Is he saying that sick people are not high-quality people because sometimes they can't keep full-time work? In reality, he had more than enough assurance that each of us would pay our rent on time. My credit and rental history are spotless. He told each of us different things when we called to check up on the status of our applications. Then after literally 10 days of this, he said we weren't approved. This is after we've been begging him for an answer because we have to move this week. In reality, he was stringing us along, making us think he was doing all this work on our applications when he was just waiting for someone to offer him the $300 more he was requesting. Joe is very unethical and dishonest, and in a way, I'm glad that we won't have to have him as a landlord.
