The school is newer, staff are respectful and helpful. Offers a diverse program. The new football stadium is awesome.

I attended Albert Einstein Middle school from 2001 to 2003. The change from being a sixth grader,…read morecarelessly roaming the playground to being a lowly seventh grader in a big new school was difficult for many of us. However, the school provided many programs and extracurricular activities to help ease the transition. MUSIC/EXTRACURRICULAR: I was an orchestra kid. The orchestra was a lot smaller, but we managed. Instruments were provided for students. The teacher was patient and taught us the essentials of reading music while teaching us how to play the instruments. We'd perform at a few music festivals during the year. From what I remember, the band program had a lot of support from the school and parents. They were well-funded and they performed in Disneyland in the spring. There were a lot of clubs on campus, too. You could always find one to cater to your interests and hobbies. ACADEMICS: Academics were rigorous, at least, for the classes I had. I think class placement was based on standardized test scores, because we had the equivalent of honors classes. My teachers were amazing with the level of enthusiasm they displayed to their students. If anyone has had Mr. Green, you knooow what I mean! A lot of my favorite teachers transferred to Rosemont High School in 2004, so you can find them there!! :]] FOOD: Before the health craze started in 2002, the cafeteria had chicken wings, fruit snacks, cup-o-noodles, Its-Its ice cream, more ice cream, chips, and soda. The hot food was the usual stuff served in all the school districts. Then BAM!!! Everything disappeared to be replaced with baked chips and juice. I understand the concern for eating healthy, but when you're an adolescent, it just suuuucked. The chicken wings were always super delicious. I weep for their loss :[ TREATS: Seventh grade trip to Country Club Lanes. Eighth grade promotion trip to Six Flags. We also had the typical school dances in the cafeteria. Overall, Einstein provided a safe environment :] Two years at the school passed by quickly and before I knew it, i was off to high school! :X

So far so good. This is our first year at Sequoia and my son started a bit behind because he was…read morecoming from a language immersion program at his other school (which was rigorous.) His teacher, Mrs. Doyle was so great and so patient with him. He has caught up with his grade level and even said he didn't want to leave Mrs. Doyle's class to go to 2nd grade without her. We will all miss her next year! The things I love about this school are various. They treat the young kids like little minds AND little explorers. They understand that kids this age have loads of energy and work with that energy rather than counting it against them. There are plenty of opportunities throughout the day for the kids to get active and satisfy their need to be social as well. Another great asset is how they hold the kids responsible for their behavior and work with the parents as partners in staying "on green". We will attend Sequoia next year and I may even join the PTA!

I would not recommend James W. Marshall Elementary School. One day I ask to see where my son was…read morecurrently at, his speech therapy. I was denied by his teacher Ms. Ming to see him and denied to see his speech therapist Ms. Lisa. I canceled speech therapy because of being denied. When I spoke to the Principal Marla to write a report she only gave me blank paper said there is no report documentation. I asked for her email to document the incident. I scheduled a meeting with the Principal and Ms. Ming. I asked for an emergency IEP meeting. During that meeting they blamed everything on miscommunication and they said they will work on doing better in the future. Also, they keep the gate at Ms. Ming's class room 2 open during the beginning of school instead of keeping it closed like the sign states on the door gate. In addition, the front desk's welcome sign is a troll with gold around it, clearly their value on families and children is lost here at this school. I hope that this school can work on all their problems to do better for the community. Families need to demand better of the Teachers and Principal at James W. Marshall Elementary. There was one great outstanding person at this school and that was Amber the Teacher's Aid in Ms. Ming's classroom. Thank you Amber!

I spoke with the front desk lady, Leanne around 9 am asking if could bring my son by later to meet his new teacher and see the classroom. We agreed on a time however, when we arrived she stated that she forgot to tell the teacher then asked me to wait while she tried to fine the teacher who was hopefully still on campus. While we were waiting 2 children were caught trying to run out the gates. She had to chase them down and put her arms around one kids waist to get him to come back in the quad. So chaotic! I never received any welcome packet, no paperwork we just started. So weird. Would not recommend. Wholeheartedly would not recommend!
