Old Mountain Field also serves the Town's "urban" park with many participants walking to and from the park. The park contains lit baseball and softball fields, two lit tennis courts, two un-lit tennis courts, in-line skating facility, skateboard part, lit basketball courts, trails, concession stand, restroom building, and small pond. We have been to see kids play baseball and softball many times and it is a very lively and well used park. There's plenty of parking.

We came in the winter so there was a lot of snow on the ground, but it was still so beautiful and serene. I imagine it's just gorgeous in the summer. The Jamestown community has really put together an amazing space for children. No dogs are allowed in the park so plan accordingly. We had a puppy with us and stayed on the shady side walk near the community center while the dads kept an eye on the kids. There are a few picnic tables in the shade here. Lots of swings. Monkey bars. Zip line. And much more! The kids had a ball. Bonus points, an ice cream shop is across the street. Two thumbs up.

I'd say the main downside is that they don't have bathrooms and instead just have port-a-potty's. You can probably go into the library if the library is open, but when we were there the library was closed. The park has a great setup for younger kids on side and older kids on the other. I also love that there is a little bakery/cafe across the street that you can grab an iced coffee at and a snack before or after the kids play. Street parking was tight, but we were able to park at the library. Overall a lovely gem of a playground.

Both were within a short walking distance and is best to park at either the senior center or the main parking lot (troll parking lot marker upon field entry) Ninigret park is HUGE! I saw a tennis courts, basketball courts, a playscape, walking trails and a nice pond among the trolls They also had a Dels lemonade truck in the parking lot and this was perfect for a hot summers day

It was cool to see. Good pit stop to get some exercise. The bathroom they had was a camp-style latrine type where it was a big hole and no sink. Was fine for me to pee but my city friend didn't like it. Gets the job done when you have to pee and it's a step up above a portopotty.

Beavertail's most popular activity is sightseeing, and can be done from the comfort of a vehicle, in one of the four overlooks or on foot, from the rocky coastline. Beavertail also provides some of the best saltwater fishing in the area, along with offering hiking trails, and a naturalist program that attracts hundreds of people each year. This is a great place in the summer, fall or spring. Many people do enjoy winter hikes as well. The entry and the parking are free. If you have some free time and are in the Jamestown and/or Newport area, this is a nice stop to relax.

There is a small parking lot. I do suggest getting out of your car and going around to the top of the hill and take a look at the water. There are many other viewing opportunities to see Point Judith Light house. I highly recommend just taking a drive around after You venture to the coast guard area. The history behind this lighthouse is pretty neat. So many opportunities to photograph the lighthouse.

The last time we were in Narragansett it was raining and we did not go to the point. We had seen it many years ago and wanted to revisit it on this trip. It is sad that there has to be so much fencing around it that we could not get close. You can get a picture from the parking lot but it is not attractive. If you climb the grassy berm facing the ocean you can get a better picture from up there. Because it is a still functioning lighthouse, it is secured by the Coast Guard which is responsible for this property, as the signs will remind you.

However, during the summer months the town's population more than doubles to near 34,000. Narragansett is known for its summer recreation and beaches. Fishermen's Memorial State Park, located near Galilee, contains a former military fort (Fort Greene) and a campground. Three beaches in Narragansett that are most famous are: -Narragansett Town Beach is located in the center of Narragansett, though it charges a fee--whereas other local (state funded) beaches charge for parking only. -Scarborough State Beach: The Scarborough Beach Complex comprises two separate areas, the North and South. Each has a pavilion, showers, 75 picnic tables, boardwalk and observation tower. There is a small fee for parking if a spot on nearby streets can not be found. -Roger Wheeler State Beach and Salty Brine State Beach are both located in Point Judith, which is the southernmost point of Narragansett. Both beaches are protected by the breakwater that protects the port of Galilee. The town of Narragansett occupies a narrow strip of land running along the eastern bank of the Pettaquamscutt River to the shore of Narragansett Bay. The setting is really beautiful and if you are not into going to the beach, there's a beautiful sea wall that surrounds most of the beach area and it's the perfect setting for a nice stroll by the ocean. There's a small strip mall located about two blocks from the beach with some parking and a few shopping options and a few restaurants that cater anything from burgers and sandwiches to fine white cloth linen dining. One of the main landmarks is called "The Towers". The Towers is a historic structure located at 35 Ocean Road in Narragansett. It is the only remnant of the Narragansett Pier Casino built in the 1880s. On November 25, 1969, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. In Rhode Island, people from South County joke about having to drive "north of the towers" as meaning leaving their comfortable beachy setting ... to drive to Providence, Warwick, Newport, etc.

They offer guided tours for visitors of the hidden underground tunnels if you've got the time. Oh but it's spectacular! Wooded Hiking trails (rabbits darting back and forth across the paths) to explor or to get to the rocky- beautiful polished stones- beach. The views are beautiful - the bay, Point Judith Light, and mysterious stone ruins at the end of the three-quarter-mile-long path. Fishing is big here. But laying on the huge rocks taking in the scents & smells of the ocean is a true pleasure.

The trail runs right along the water, offering multiple side paths that take you directly to the shore. Some great views, and although the terrain isn't hilly, it's not straight and has just enough incline to make it challenging without it actually being challenging, if that makes sense.

Kingston and…read moreKingstown The small village of West Kingston used to be called Little Rest, which definitely was a cool name. But in the 19th century some wise arse decided to name it West Kingston. Not a bad name but considering the village of West Kingston is in the town of South Kingstown and there is a North Kingstown lurking nearby, things have been confused ever since. The West Kingston Park is quite nice, assuming you can find it, which is iffy for non local people because they usually end up looking for South Kingston or West Kingstown, neither of which exist. The park is very pleasant and has tennis and basketball courts and lots of picnic areas and places to walk. It's an easy bike ride to the Kingstown beaches and isn't to far from the campus of The University of Rhode Island. An old saying goes that everything in Rhode Island has three names and that frequently proves to be the case. It's a nice little park that is seldom crowded, even in the summer. Perhaps the reason is that nobody can figure out exactly where the park is.
