I was perfectly charmed with my first visit to Rose Garden Center today. Most nurseries load up on quick selling plants and don't have anything especially interesting. Not so here! Of course they have all the basics, but also multiple varieties of each type of fruit tree, including some less common tropical varieties like longan. There were bonsai starts and supplies, super hot peppers, a seemingly endless variety of landscape plants and pollinator attractors. All of this lovingly tucked tightly together in a way that didn't feel busy, but lush and inviting. Inside the store was no less impressive. There was a wonderful selection of pond/aquarium supplies, small animals, and fish. A young man working on one of the indoor ponds spent a lot of time talking to us about ideas to improve a pond that we have, along with recommendations on fish for it. He, and the owners, seemed quite proud of their wonderful place, as they should be. I look forward to visiting again soon! read more

Sometimes I walk there and take a car back or visa-versa. Today I took a car there & back. I spent $60 and it was worth it. 4 plants, big bag of charcoal for my terrariums, other stuff. I love Mister Mike and everyone who works there. Cannot say enough good stuff, the great plants they have and all those nice people who work there. I had first discovered the Rose Garden and Pet on Lapalco and somehow figured out there's one even closer to me in Harvey--this one. I also love the Lapalco one. I try to go at least every 3/4/5 weeks, something like that, and I ALWAYS BUY GREAT STUFF!! read more

Amazing garden center. Excellent customer service. The employees and owners are so kind and they go above and beyond to help you. They have a wide variety of plants, trees, roses oh as well as bunnies, fish and reptiles. They helped me by taking my order to my car. This isn't your typical garden center. They are more of a mom and pop business. The overall vibe was lovely. I highly recommend them. read more

Rose Garden Center is my go-to place for plants. I have been shopping here since the 1970's and always find what I am looking for. It is kind of an old-time garden emporium. Plan to spend a couple of hours here as there is so much to see. They have a huge stock and the prices are very reasonable. They also carry feed, tools, fertilizer, and soil amendments. Their plants are all hardened off so they don't go into shock when they are transplanted. There is a shade greenhouse for the low light ones and an outdoor area for the sun lovers. There are aquatic specimens and an area full of houseplants. They also have a pet center with tropical fish, birds, bunnies, and reptiles plus everything you need to care for them. I love their stock of unique flowerpots and garden ornaments! On my last visit I picked up a large Persian Lime from their stock of fruit and citrus trees and two Peggy Martin roses, the one and only Katrina Rose! read more

Mr. Mike is an absolute charmer and can make a girl blush! He was engaging and sweet and exuded that Southern charm, thanking us for doing business. Mom loves this place and insisted on stopping by to get some starter tomatoes and cucumber plants. The other patrons are genuinely friendly and offer fantastic advice. Lots of variety and a green thumb wet dream come true! Don't mind the kitty who is too busy napping. Make you way to the right and explore to your heart's content. This place makes The Girly really happy. It makes me pretty happy too, but only if I don't go inside. They have a shop cat so 2 minutes inside and my eyes will be watery, burning, and swollen and I'll probably stop breathing soon after.(As happy as that might make you, I just stay outside and it's all good). That's the only reason I can't give it 5 stars. Even just being outside, it's an amazing place for plants. One of the owners is an ex-teacher and labels and describes each of the plants in such perfect details that you know exactly what you are getting and what it can be used for/with. They even have some of the less well-known peppers, trees etc, that we've not been able to find anywhere else. Everyone there will help you at the drop of a hat and never act like you are getting in their way. Just a great place. Prices are great and the people are great and they take great care of their plants. read more

I love this place so much. They always have the plants I'm interested in and many more, and I've always been convinced this is the only place to get garden statues. Today specifically I was looking for fiddle leaf fig, and of course they had it and knew what it was. Lots of helpful tips from the staff and always a pleasant conversation with the owner. This is my favorite pet and garden center in the greater new orleans area. Why? Because they have anything you need and if they don't have it they'll either find who has it or order it for you. Want green spot puffers instead of the figure 8 puffers that most big box stores carry? Not only does the fish guy know the difference between the two but he'll order them if he doesn't have them in stock. They also have a GREAT selection of heirloom varieties and hard to find plants. This is where I got a good quantity of my non GMO veggie plants. As someone who is new to gardening, I spent days in various stores scoping out selection and prices. This was by far the best in both areas, not to mention customer service. Spent an hour and a half there as one of the staff thoroughly explained the different herbs and what would grow best together. Went there 15-20 min before closing. Woman said register was closed and the person that handled the fish was gone. We left went up the street to Petco. I waited out in the car. When I looked up after awhile I see this truck pulling up to pick up a woman who just finished shopping. The woman who was driving the truck was the cashier from Rose Garden and the woman being picked up was the fish handler from Rose Garden. Rushed out from their store to shop at the competition. Wonderful selection and great customer service. The owners are extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. The prices are competitive with any of the big box stores but the quality (especially on garden furniture and fixtures) far surpasses anything you'd expect. Went there 3-26-15 for the first time, won't go again. It was a rainy weekday afternoon, I was the only customer at the center. They had a decent selection of Weeks roses which appeared healthy; selection was the same thing available in other area garden centers at the same price. (I'm putting in a new bed, so I've been doing a lot of rose shopping this year.) I saw a rose that I liked the look of, a pink hybrid tea, but when I looked at the label, I saw it was mislabelled as "Pretty Lady." Pretty Lady is a near white floribunda, not a pink hybrid tea. I thought it was worth taking the time to try to figure out what it really was. I figured the store would have a list of the roses that were for sale, and if the clerk would pull the list, we should be able to figure out what we were looking at. So I went inside and told the clerk that one of the roses was mislabelled. His response, in a not ugly but clearly not interested voice, "So what makes you an expert?" I explained politely that I grow Pretty Lady so I know what they look like. I asked him to come look at the mislabelled rose. He came outside with me and I pointed out that this was a dark pink hybrid tea and Pretty Lady is a very pale near white floribunda. I said if the store has a computer, he can look it up online and he'll be able to see right away what I mean. He got angry and told me in an unpleasant tone, "It says Pretty Lady and I don't know anything else about it" and marched away in a huff. It's easy enough to make a mistake labelling a rose early in the season, bare root roses don't look very distinctive. But when store personnel would rather lose a sale than correct an obvious mistake, this doesn't inspire confidence. I would say this place is a couple of cuts above Home Depot in terms of selection and quality of roses, but there are better places to shop. read more

Just found the Rose Garden Center! I had been to three other places and was just about to give up until spring when I discovered this place. Just off the Westbank Expressway it is actually easier to get to than a few of the other speciality nursery's. Felt like I was stepping back in time - to a magical place where customer service is exceptional, the owner actually cares, the people who work there love and are knowledgeable about the products they sell. The Rose Garden had everything I was looking for (the Roses were healthy and bursting with buds, the Mandevilla was exceptionally lush, and I snagged the biggest basket of purple Bougainvillea I've ever seen). Most surprising was the great selection of really interesting and exotic plants - many of which I hadn't even seen before so I can't wait to make some more space in the garden and go back! They have animals too so my son loved the adventure as much as I did, and got a really neat fish. Prices were super, selection was great and it's locally owned. Absolute gem of a place!!! read more
