I am a student at this school and I'm not going to lie about anything some teachers at this school…read moreneed to go they are rude and don't have the correct training to deal with students that have special needs (autism, adhd). Some students are being ignored by staff when trying to speak up when they are being bullied, when you go into the main cafeteria you can look through a window to a little space that has a tree and a bench you may think the bench is for a soldier since the area is covered in poppies students have made but it's for a student that committed because of them being bullied and didn't get any help. For food it is overpriced and in the burger bar they don't sell burgers they sell paninis that give you food poisoning, everyone gets a £5 limit on spending on food per day which is not enough to get a decent lunch. They say students first as their motto but that's wrong it's grades first they want people to have perfect GCSEs and perfect behaviour to be invited to the year 11 prom which some students will struggle for since they don't get any work done because of the teachers not helping them. Another problem is homework, there is too much, some teachers expect students to bring in homework perfectly on time of given on paper and not lost as they go through school as it sits in their blazers, and they say if it's online homework " your generation is always on your phones so why don't you do your homework while on it" or " it only takes 15 mins why haven't you done it" and they think students will attend homework club when the students probably have siblings they need to look after and pick up from school while parents are at work. Another issue is students not having an allocated time to go on their phones, some students have to stay in contact with some people like therapists, family members otherwise they won't be able to cope in the loud, unorganised place, this rule is making students panic more and try to hide their phones and go on them during anytime that they get to be at ease, if they get caught they will have it taken away for a day and the parents can pick it up at the end of the day period which is technically illegal since the law states if you do not own the property you do not have the right to take it unless you have permission this means that parents can sue the school for taking their child's phone away without permission of the person who bought the phone. Overall outsold academy Hindley (formerly Hindley high) is getting 2 stars for it being like a prison where if you mess up the slightest you get into a lot of trouble.

Seven years I spent in this school, learning my times tables, perfecting my handwriting, avoiding…read moresports days, and eating packed lunch in the grotty dinner centre that smelled of hot cheese. The school is divided into two buildings, and essentially three areas: reception children are effectively segregated from the burly year-ones and "tops". For years 3-6, children go up to "juniors". There is also a nursery available through the week. The headteacher and many of the school teachers have changed since I was there, so I can't comment on teaching standards. With regards to the school building itself, there have been some improvements with new entrance doors, an enhanced play area, and new dining facilities. The building was decrepit when I attended school here; with smashed window, exposed brick work and a dirty, positively dangerous playing field, it needed more than a lick of paint. St Edmunds is quite a large school and accepts children from outside of the area and christian denomination, besides those of St Edmund's and/or St Thomas's parish. While I myself represent the progeny of this school, there is some stigma attached to St Edmund's and St Thomas's relating to the sector of society it welcomes or rather, acquires. Many feel it is one of the least respected schools, that is less exclusive- less posh, basically. I don't know whether that's fair to say, in my opinion it is true to some extent but not necessarily a disadvantage.

I can't comment on it as a school but as an adult learning environment it's amazing. The courses are extremely reasonable and there's a huge range to choose from. You have to enrol so you do have to provide details about yourself, you can't just turn up. Because it's a school it has very good parking and accessibility and it's always clean, even the toilets. The adult education manager is also fab; very helpful! It's a bit hard to spot from the road but there are signs.

Situated…read morea ten minute walk from the university behind Victoria park, Dalton Ellis are a set of beautiful old buildings that are really too nice for student accommodation. Around 5 students share a bathroom and toilet, as well as a small kitchenette, which makes the ratio of heads to showers and hobs much better than elsewhere. They also have all the standard facilities including wireless broadband internet, a bike shed and a laundry. The common rooms and old and beautiful with really old leather-bound books and the surrounding leafy areas are definitely the highlight. Its also close to The Rampant Lion pub, an excellent watering hole. If grimy studentville Fallowfield isn't your thing then Dalton Ellis is probably the perfect halls for you.

Honestly, I know how much I hate the Vicy Park's dessertation, but this place just looks wow! Now, coming to the technicalities, they are mostly packed with single washbasin rooms and also a small number of en suite rooms. On average 5 students share bathroom and toilet facilities. There is also a small kitchenette area for the preparation of snacks and light meal. Facilities include a library, a stage, and netball, tennis and squash courts. These Halls are catered and like all catered halls, if you're in time, you're in for a good meal! If not, oh well, you just missed some good pippin' hot food! Anyhow, a great place to meet new people and leisure around as well. You can only imagine what this place would be like in spring! P*R*E*T*T*Y!

Xaverian College...what a fantastic place…read more This is where I actually became who I am today. I know that sounds silly but this college is fantastic. I learnt more here in two years than I did in five years at high school. The teachers here really bring you out of yourself, they actually care about the students, not just about the grades. I'm still in touch with most of my tutors now, they care what I've been up to since I left and always get in touch to congratulate me on anything I achieve. The range of subjects is vast and the campus keeps getting bigger and better. It's much different to most other colleges as the buildings are spread right out although not too far so you can still walk to all of them comfortably. It's so different to school, everyone is treated as an adult and it was such a good grounding before university, I don't think I'd have been half as prepared for uni if it wasn't for Xaverian.

Postgraduate degrees as well as undergraduate degrees are offered and both schools offer excellent staff who are very knowledgeable in their subject and also approachable, which is an important bonus. The Mount Pleasant Campus is situated in a popular student area with many shops nearby and on the Mount Pleasant Campus there is the Aldham Robarts Learning Resource Centre, which is currently being updated to provide more facilities for students and should be a great improvement. The Aquinas Building is nearby and offers welfare advice for students and is the place where assignments must be handed in and the dreaded fees sorted out! The Student Union (very important to students for numerous reasons!) is just past Aldham Robarts LRC and they offer many services including of course food & drink, takeaway or eat in at reasonable prices.

The teachers and staff are friendly and it does quite well in the league tables - if you are interested in that type of thing. It has also extended it's working day, offering many after school activities - such as netball, football, rounders, band, multi-games to name a few. There is even an aerobics lesson available before school on one day of the week. It has a school band and offers music lesson, indeed this is one of it's strengths, with the school doing well in local competitions. There is also a Playgroup which is open on the school grounds, which offers before and after school care. By the way, school dinners are healthy and taste great, a credit to the canteen staff. The only drawback is parking is only available on side streets and it can become congested - although the school does encourage children to walk to school.

Highly popular local secondary school, entry is controlled by gaining 'points' according to…read morecriteria such as church attendances and activity within your community. With 10 classes in each year group there is plenty of scope for extra mural activities. The school has a good reputation for music and drama being a specialist drama centre and this is aided by the recently built 'theatre' chapel at the front of the site. Due to the pupils coming from a large catchment area there is often alot of traffic at either side of the school day as there are numerous bus routes to accomodate on the school bus lanes. Sports are well represented within the school with many pupils playing at county and even national level. Exam results are good, consistantly in the top three for the region and the sixth form on site repeats this in the A level results.
