She asked me if I wanted the lettuce, onions, tomatoes and oil & vinegar. I said yes. We drive another hour north before we stopped for lunch. The sandwich was the worst that I ever had. There was hardly any meat or cheese on it and it was swimming in mayonnaise. I had to throw it away, it was inedible. I tried to scrape the mayo off and that's when I saw that there was hardly anything on the bread. I so looked forward to having another amazing sandwich from Peck's. It was $12.00 wasted. Our son's sandwich wasn't much better. I think retraining would be an appropriate measure here.

The parking lot is certainly adequate in size and the store clean and reasonably well organized. The variety is good , and all the produce which I inspected was fresh and undamaged. I was pleased that that had a selection of organic which some of the people I was buying for preferred. The prices were reasonable, and overall my visit there was a pleasant experience.

This was the wrong spot to pick... we intended to buy something from the store and, at the same time, use the restroom, because there aren't rest stops along this route. I was looking at the store's offerings while my wife and son went to use the restroom. My wife was able to use it, though as she told me there was no toilet paper in there, so you could find yourself out of luck. When my son went to use the restroom a very angry elderly man started shouting at him and my wife about customers and working there and other nonsensical stuff, and it almost seemed as if he was getting ready to physically push my son out of the place. We left, and we still did buy some junk food for the road, I don't know why. They did not deserve to be patronized. They were very rude. By the way, in the middle of the pandemic, none of the workers were wearing masks, including the yelling old man. They were not enforcing the health department rules.

The convenience store fills a need, being open late and selling beer, cigarettes, snacks, ice and such. It's an OK place. The diner is also OK, offering typical diner food at typical diner prices with friendly service. Just fine, but nothing to write home about. One thing that makes Lander's River Cafe better than a typical diner is the view out the window: you can see where Callicoon Creek is about to flow into the Delaware, and from the angle out the back window the two bodies of water appear to be flowing in opposite directions. It's beautiful. Here's where Lander's River Mart excels: in the convenience store part of the establishment they make sandwiches. Not fancy sandwiches, but good subs. Their Italian combo (at about $6) weighs over a pound and a half and easily feeds two hungry people. It might be the best deal in Callicoon; the cold cut to bread ratio is obscene. Roscoe's was the closest grocery store, other than driving an hour to a major chain. They have everything you need to grill, all the essentials for cooking while camping, hiking, or fishing. Not a large selection of wine, but they have the main variety (Merlot, Cabernet, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay). Huge selection of beer, and NY craft beer, last but not least hard seltzer. They also carry a big selection of snacks, s'more ingredients, including the long stick to roast marshmallows. Firewood, snow removal supplies, cookware, outdoor grilling utensils. Definitely check this store out, you would be surprised at all the variety, they carry. Their prices are great.
