This will be the third municipal golf course that I've visited. This golf course is well kept and the staff here is awesome, too. We love Kitty, who works here and at the Los Feliz Par 3 golf course. Roosevelt Golf Course is well maintained and the fairways are wide and the layout is nice. This is a great course to learn how to aim because there's wide fairways so you'll be able to find your ball. The course layout is nice yet not so tight due to the wide fairways. You won't find many greens with divots (we are OCD about fixing our divots (and others) no matter which course we visit because we respect the sport) because it may be due to the hole designs. They are nice and challenging. You have a couple of dogleg left or right holes. You'll see a flag to mark the middle of hole on the fairway for those dogleg holes. The course is well maintained and the greens are SO nice! Each tee box, fairway and green was in excellent condition. You won't hear any freeway or traffic noise because it's nestled in a neighborhood. There's plenty of trees so you won't be scorching in the sun. There's a perfect amount of shade for each hole. We were introduced to this golf course by one of their long standing staff members, Kitty who also works at the Los Feliz Par 3 golf course. We're so glad she mentioned Roosevelt because now we will be frequenting Roosevelt and Los Feliz! Roosevelt is so relaxing and we love the wildlife we encounter at Roosevelt, too. A fairly decent 9-hole golf course. One of the major negatives of this golf course is the parking situation. The traffic is very heavy driving into this golf course because it is nearby other hiking trails and venues. It is a walking 9-hole golf course and par3 and par4. If you want somewhere to go for fun on a weekend, it's nice to try this course. read more

What a terrible experience 4 1/2 Hours to do a 9 hole, yes it was a Saturday but really??? 4 1/2 HOURS. We show up for our 12:30 tee time for them to tell us they are 30 mins behind ok fine whatever, but no one keeping pace of play??? Scenic 9 hole executive course. Good variety in hole layouts, some blind tee shots, dog legs, and hills. Walking only. They do have push carts available to rent before 1:30pm. Reservations required and they get gobbled up very quickly. Due to the location, views, and price it's one of the higher in demand local courses. While it's only an executive course the design does allow for interesting play and use most of your bag. Condition is pretty standard in comparison to the other LA public courses. The greens can be deceiving due to being in the hills. Great views around each bend of downtown and the observatory. Starters... seem to ignore helping guests at the window and cause delays for no good reason. - PACE OF PLAY ... They book all tee times with 5 golfers and "I0 minute" spacing. Especially on weekends if you do not start before 8:30am expect a grueling very long day. Hole 6 specifically is notorious for having a back up of multiple groups. Very narrow and lined with trees. The back up could be reduced if players only teed off once and took their loses with a drop. The course should reduce tee slots to 4 players only. I did also get the impression that a large amount of the clientele are not concerned with keeping pace or negatively impacting others rounds. Groups that are more than happy to be out there for an unnecessarily long time. - The cafe onsite has a good variety of good and beverages and plenty outdoor seating. If you have the chance to play an early tee time, I would say do it! The deduction in rating really comes from how crowded, slow and backed up the course becomes. All that can lead to tension and arguing on the course and disrupt your rhythm of play. read more

Typical municipality, cares more about revenue generating than guest experience.1:30 tee time and didn't get to tee off until 2pm. My god, what a terrible experience. The course itself is lovely, beautiful views, interesting holes, pretty well kept for the price. But the front desk is a shitshow. I have never seen a gaggle of more incompetent men in my life. Checked in 10 minutes before our tee time, was told to come back in 5 minutes, was then told to come back in 2 minutes. But after I came back, they threw a "be back in five minutes" sign when they were all in there trying to scrape together as a group to how to run a 9 hole golf course. Grabbed a push cart, but a grumpy old man came out of the office and yelled at us that we couldn't have them because apparently there are no push carts after 1:30. The thing is our tee time was at 1:30...but because of mismanagement we couldn't check in then. Again, great course, but awful starters. And why do they need three of them to mess up the job that one competent dude with any golf experience could do? read more

TL;DR Nice golf course, nice views, out in nature, gets backed up. The Course: The course itself is well maintained, and has some nice views to it. It is walking only and there are plenty of hills that you will have to trek. The downhill par 3 at the 9th hole is a nice way to finish after conquering the dog leg on the 8th hole. Saw deer, coyotes, and some bear droppings. Amenities/Service: They add 5ths to groups. Know this before coming or else you will find out when you start to pay. My group came to play on a Sunday and we got quite backed up. Location: Construction on LA streets really make it hard to get up here sometimes. Oh Roosevelt, how I wish I could rate you so much higher. Beautiful and challenging (lots of up and downs with a few doglegs) 9 hole course with multiple holes that have views of the Griffith Observatory. While the course is always in great shape, the waiting is absolutely unacceptable. Tee times are spaced only 10 minutes apart and allow for fivesomes. It's clear this is done for revenue generating purposes, and as a result, the experience suffers significantly. Average time to play here is 3.5 hours. Prepare to wait up to half an hour or more to tee off on number 6, which is a narrow, downhill par 4 and is the course's biggest chokepoint. read more

The starters here are the ABSOLUTE WORSE. TERRIBLE ATTITUDE AND ALWAYS ON A POWER TRIP. THEY WILL GIVE Away your tee time so that it's open for their men's group when they decide to play during your time slot. Worst golf experience In Los Angeles. The price is high for a 9-Hole, and everytime I've come here I've been driven up to by the greens-Marshall who tries to claim we're "behind pace". When I explained to him that it was not us who is effecting the pace-of-play, he still suggested we play from the White Tees... mind this old dude, I'm a 10 handicap, and 28 years old. I am definitely better than him and all his friends put together. The reason we were slow is because there were two parties ahead of us, who were beginners, playing in groups of 2... Why was I spoken to? This is also not the first time I've had a bad experience. It was my third and last time ever giving this horrible staff my money. Again, don't waste your hard earned money here. golfed a lot during this COVID crisis to get out of the house and frustrate the shit out of myself. no, but golf is great. sometimes. really (depending on how i'm playing). really nice executive 9 hole course, par 3 and 4s. well maintained greens, takes about 2.5-3 hours to play through. there's some pile up as expected on the par 3 holes. short course, so no golf carts. strictly walking although they rent out push carts. the course is long and challenging enough to practice and play all of your clubs. it's busy and reservation only (no walk ins, at least currently), but it's a pleasant experience. can't beat $10 for weekday twilight. i usually get paired up with old korean guys playing during the week. there's usually a hold up on the 6th hole, par 4. narrow fairway with trees lining both sides. use your cheap throwaway balls on this hole if you're in a funk. the 8th hole is the flagship hole with a direct view of griffith observatory. enjoy the beautiful scenery and the occasional grazing deer. bombs away. read more

This is definitely the prettiest, most well-kept public LA golf course I have played at so far. Awesome views of the Observatory and the east side hills all around this course. Walking only, which helps the course stay as green and as gorgeous as it is. It's also pretty challenging - lots of hitting up and down hills, a few doglegs and some narrow fairways that will punish slicers brutally. It gets four stars instead of five for two big reasons: 1. Because every tee time is a five-some, it gets extremely backed up. Be prepared to spend at least three hours here on a weekend, which is kind of absurd for a 9 hole course. 9 holes should only take 90 minutes to two hours to complete, but this one takes three. If that sounds absurd to you, you should just book 18 holes and an extra hour somewhere else. 2. They really need to do something on hole 6 to cut down on the backup. I was playing pretty well on the first five holes but the long wait on hole 6 disrupted my rhythm and I never got it back. If there is nothing that can be done, then put a snack cart at the tee so players can get some snacks or some adult beverages while they wait for three groups in front of them to tee off. Easily could make extra profits if they did this. So, if three hours to play 9 holes and a long wait on hole 6 don't sound like too big a deal to you, there is no better public course in LA than this one. read more

I really want to give this course a 5 because it's possibly the best 9 hole course I've ever played at. After covid they changed this course to 5 somes and it ruined the pace of play to the point I avoid this course now. I still play it when I have 3 hours for 9 holes but please I'm begging you to change this back to 4 somes. I used to play everyday here when it was faster pace. read more

Fuck this place. This could be really great if they got their course management figured out. We teed off at 330, we're through 5 at 545.... 3-4 groups on every tee box and 5-somes galore. If you're actually decent at golf, don't even bother. You will be so frustrated with how slow this is. We told the starter and his response was "I don't even play golf so I don't care". He said "5-somes are normal and you have to let them out. This is a normal thing here". Uh no you don't? You obviously only care about a buck. This is one of the best public 9 hole in the greater Los Angeles area, IMO. Started to play golf again in 5 years and it's the perfect place o get warmed up. Even though there are no par 5's. The many par 4's they have can be pretty challenging. Green fee is nominal, twighlight after 5pm is only $10 and if you play early on a weekday, you can have a tranquil game without any distraction. They recently renovated the place and the greens were in supreme shape. Come play and enjoy. read more

Just attempted to play a round. Upon arrival at the 2nd tee there were two groups of 5 who hadn't shot yet. Our arrival made 3 groups of 5. The person attending the pro shop told me that I "need to be patient". No other golf course that I have ever played at would have allowed this as an acceptable pace of play. There was no Marshall, and apparently no one who cares at all. I would not recommend this course, especially since the other municipal courses in the area actually do care about pacing so that people can enjoy a reasonable round of golf. They also don't do refunds so if you do come here beware. read more

Showed up at the tee time and the gentleman at the desk couldn't find the reservation in the system. Everything was booked for the day and I was not able to golf. Do not recommend going here. Played Roosevelt last week before work and had a pretty good time. No aerated greens (or at least they were pretty much finished and complete with the aerations. The greens were already in pretty good condition. I first played Roosevelt back in the 90's as a newbie and also HS golf team member. We played against some lower league schools at this course. It's not a regulation sized 9 hole course but it does have a 3-4 holes that you can whip out your driver. If I knew how to place the balls back when I was in HS like how I do now, I would of played so much better then! This course is easy to walk and carry your bag on. A lot of the older folks opt to cart their bags around. Weekday play, this course flows like water but if you play Roosevelt on the weekends be prepared to wait on just about every tee box. The green fees are reasonable also...LA city residents have more discounts! read more

First time coming here. I had a tee time at 12:20 they told me I was good to go. Once I started to play they came up to me and told me I had to wait for other players that had a tee time at 1220 as well. Eventually they showed up like at 1230ish. Since we started late the group from 1230 tee time started yelling at me telling me to get out the way cause they were going to tee off. Had to get my money back read more

It is a cozy 9 hole golf course. However, it seems there is always a backup booking and they allow 5-somes. Plenty of parking spaces, a nice food cafe, and the putting practice green are the good amenities. Since there are mountain animals such as deers, it is better to prepare a flea repellent spray. Nice golf course - really long for an executive course. I suggest you can hit the ball consistently at least 200 yards before you play here. This is not a beginners course. Dangerous. Wonderfully kept course, too many golfers of different skills and terrible tee off planning. Creates a dangerous and unenjoyable golf game. The management needs to schedule games with more time in between. When we took a break for lunch, we noticed there's plenty of room behind the 4 groups crammed together. I'd give 1 star because I nearly get hit in the head every time I'm here, but the cafe is rather nice. It's a shame such great scenery can't be paired with a safer golf game. read more

A gem in LA. Nice course. Im always able to walk on. Im able to go during the week though. I heard it can take 3 hrs on the wkd. Anyhow, not an easy course but not difficult. Most fairways leave little room for error. You're better off if you can drive and hit straight here. Very little forgiveness. I've lost some balls here. Also found a couple too. Sometimes this 9 satiates my golf itch. Other times, i leave needing another 9 to complete me. read more

Twilight hours start at 4:30 and it's only $8.50 for residents, $10.50 for non-residents M-Th. What a bargain! This challenging 9-hole executive course is a real delight to play. There's 3 par 3s and the rest are par 4s for a total of 2,478 yards. There's many sand traps and plenty of trees and shrubbery surrounding rather narrow fairways For an extra $3, I'd recommend renting a hand cart because it's a bit hilly with a slope rating of 108. There's no electric carts. The resident rabbits can be seen everywhere at twilight, and on the 8th hole you get a really nice view of the Griffith Park Observatory, especially with it's lights on. Compared to LA's other 9 hole municipal courses Penmar and Harbor Park, I like Roosevelt the best. read more
