I have worked on crafting this review throughout my entire experience with Roofing Exteriors Pro and I hope that it can help others not get treated the way I was.
I will start with this: the work itself is fine by my estimation as someone who does not do construction work. I am having a friend who's father is a contractor come out to look at everything based on how I was treated to confirm this. I had a front porch, back porch, roof and gutters installed for my home. It was a little under $25k to do this. I do not feel that the work provided was worth the amount I am paying for it combined with the stress and the miscommunication I dealt with through this process. My long winded review to justify this is as follows:
Mylas, a member of the sales team, absolutely talks a big game but does not follow through. The initial meeting where I discussed what I wanted seemed to go well. I listed off my vision for my front porch and how I really just wanted a basic back porch to make it easy to let my dogs in and out. The main things that I put emphasis on were having latchable and lockable gates at the top of my stairs and ramp in the front, an octagonal bump out for grilling, planter boxes built into the front porch, wraps for the columns to match the porch, a privacy wall on a 5 foot section of fence that was going to be significantly shorter than the rest of my fence once my old back porch was removed and good communication throughout the entire process. I made it known to Mylas, the secretary and one of the owners many times that I needed to know before anyone came on my property so that I could bring my dogs to work and not put them through undo stress.
Here is where I failed as a client: I did not ask for my estimate to be broken down from construction jargon into plain words. I asked if it had everything I requested (and listed those things) and was assured that it did. I signed the estimate and secured my loan and the work was started.
My roof was started and finished with no problems within the week. The secretary called me beforehand with possible dates and I was able to choose the one that worked for me.
I waited about a week and a half with no communication before I called to see when the work would be done. There had been a fair amount of rain so I wanted to ensure that I communicated that I was okay with waiting and get a better idea of when the construction would start so I could plan. I work long shifts in hospital management so my schedule can be difficult and I needed to plan for my pets. Everytime I spoke to someone I would get the equivalent of a verbal shrug as an answer to this question. I told everyone I spoke to many times that I needed 24 hours notice before anyone came to my property. I did this so many times that I could tell I had irritated them and they said it was noted in my file.
And then, with no notice and out of the blue on a Monday morning, my driveway was full of construction workers. As I was at work, my brother was able to ask them what they were there to do that day. They said the gutters. My brother asked them to come back on Tuesday since the dogs were at home and they were clearly irritated about this. I called on my lunch and reiterated that I needed to know dates and times people were going to be on my property.
On Thursday at work I got a call from a family member that someone had cut part of my less than 5 week old lawnmower in half. He has also witnessed one of the workers yank an outlet from the wall and try to wrap the wire back. This knocked out power to some of my appliances and part of the outlets in my house. When I called about this I was told an electrician could come out sometime and they would figure out what happened with the mower.
The final walkthrough was a farce. They basically said it was my fault the little things I wanted weren't done. They refused to have an electrician come out. I was interrupted and belittled many times and told that I didn't know what I was talking about because I wasn't a professional. They told me they were more upset about the fact that the workers didn't remove stickers from the wood and sand down edges.
In the end they reimbursed me the cost of my damaged mower and took the broken one and gave me $500 for my trouble and tried to make me feel guilty by saying they were writing up the entire staff. This was after saying they had never had complaints like mine before. They blamed the bad communication on the owners being out of the office for 3 days and the fact that it rained. It was excuses on top of excuses without an adequate apology and an insult of $500 as clear hush money. read more
