Just as an aside, the 2011 Choice Shonky reviews featured a Chinese car called a Chery which has roofracks that are "for cosmetic purposes only - do not use".
So, if like me you are wondering at the merits - or commercial viability - of a shop dedicated entirely to roofracks, perhaps this is it. In order to be sure you have ones that are for more than 'cosmetic purposes' you need a degree of expertise in advice and fitting.
I guess also, these days, we have an abundance of things we want to carry on car roofs - bicycles, surfboards, kayaks, camp gear. Our personal acquisition was for a kayak and a bicycle, and whilst the nuts and bolts of the racks are pretty meaningless to me, I was most impressed with the fitting service and the lesson in using and dismantling our new carrier - and with its potential to be used for other things in future if required.
One word of warning - once the racks are fitted, be increasingly wary of carpark entrance heights .... read more
