The office staff never offered an explanation at the time of check-in. A simple, "doctor is running behind." "Would you like to wait to be seen or reschedule?" would have been appropriate and grately appreciated. The waiting room chaos was related to a blatant back-fire of appointment over-booking gone bad! I don't find listening to outraged patient waiting room ranting an asset to any medical practice. When my daughter was finally seen by Dr. Botwin on 05/20/2013, he spent less than two minutes examining her ankle. He offered a weak apology stating "Sorry for the wait, but many patients have problems and I try to accomodate as many as I can." Well-- Dr. Botwin, you let the cat out of the bag when you stated "as many as I can." What about quality of care versus quantity of patients you can run through in a day?" I would suggest patient scheduling should be reviewed to avoid the chaos we experienced in the waiting room. Everyone's time is valuable and patient's should not feel rushed during the course of their medical treatment. My advice, call ahead to determine if doctor is running on time and definitely inquire what the anticipated wait time is when checking in.

This boggles my mind because to make a diagnosis, the doctor needs to get data from the patient. I get it though. Everyone likes to talk. And doctors like to talk about how much they know. I also notice that a lot of doctors like to "control" the visit. They dictate how the interaction goes. They ask the questions, and the patients must obediently answer. This wasn't the case with Dr. Iyer. He listens to what you have to say. And he seems understanding and kind. Of course, I might be wrong since this was only over 1 visit. I'll update this review if this changes. STATE-OF-THE-ART EQUIPMENT He has a nice X-ray machine that scans your body right away. And his office is very nice. Although this really doesn't say much about his medical expertise, it does show that he's diligent. He's on top of things. SUPPORT STAFF - GLORIA She's got to be the nicest support staff that I've met. Extremely helpful. Doesn't just pass you off to someone else or another office. Really wants to make sure you are taken care of. Unfortunately, my experience with support staff at doctors' offices are very positive. I think most just don't care. The job is just a paycheck. Moreover, they seem to have a chip on their shoulders, and they can be pretty abrasive. I find most make the process so much more difficult and tedious. Gloria won't. The doctor should be careful that another office doesn't poach her.

There were a stack of checks on her desk from 2012, it was dirty and piles of boxes/paperwork everywhere. (Uploaded photo) There were 2 young ladies waiting and I asked them "This is crazy right?", one of them said "Yeah, it is crazy". Then I asked "Is Dr Chen great?" and she replied "Yes, wonderful!". Alright I need to ignore my instinct to run. 2 - I needed to have full body scan of my moles, I get it done every 6 months so I know the drill. When I went to the back room it was more of the same, dirty, dark, hoarder area with some space around the exam table. She pulled down tissue and I began to get undressed. She looked confused, "What moles do you need me to look at?", ummm... all of them. I only had my shirt off and she held a magnifying glass looking over my back. She kept saying "take a picture of your moles and if they change come back". REALLY, I'm paying for this?! I didn't bother taking off my pants because I found it useless. 3 - My partner came with me because he had a dark patch of skin above his eye and I was worried. Dr Chen took a biopsy of it but didn't clean the area with alcohol, just stuck him. Then didn't clean the area or put a bandage over it. The blood just dried there.

Her English was definitely not the best and she made no attempt to slow down her words. When she got to the membership fee, I was told that it was $500, to which I told her was too much. She then said "well, we can work with people. How about $400? Or $300?" The $500 sounds like a racket as it is but to haggle with you over a membership fee that a doctor SHOULD NOT BE CHARGING FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE reeked of sketch. Regardless, I trust the doctor that recommended Dr. Gilbert implicitly so I said that I'd be willing to pay the $300. The woman then told me to call my insurance to make sure that their office accepts my insurance. At that point, I asked her if I should be doing all of her work for her. "Isn't it YOUR job to make sure that you take my insurance?" Only then did she say she would try and call but she's "very busy and do not have all day to spend on the phone with insurance companies." She called back the next day to tell me that she couldn't get in touch with my insurance and that I'd have to do it myself. I don't care if Dr. Gilbert can cure cancer, HIV and dementia, the impression I get from her hired help is that she's a snake oil salesman hiding behind a membership fee. I'm not looking for a gym. I'm looking for a doctor. I looked elsewhere and so should you.
