I was referred to Ron from Kindom sewing in simi valley. Made an appointment with Ron to come out when the Take-Up Level came in. Ron came out and was unable to finish the job. Allowed him to take my machine home to finish working on it. He then upped his price for labor to $275 and $70 for the part through a text. I called Ron and he told me that he changed his mind and did not want to work on my Juki machine. Since he took my machine home I ask if he could kindly bring it back and he informed that he can not bring it back for another 4-5 days. I asked if I could pick it up at his house which is an hour from where I live. His response was "yes, come get this thing from me I don't want to drag it around" and if I'm not there by 6pm he will just leave it on the driveway. When I arrived the machine was not put back together and gave me a bag of parts and refused to answer my question on why it wasn't put back together since he took the time to take it apart. Ron the said it was a headache to return the part and said I can buy it off him. I declined the offer and took my machine and left. My Industrial Post bed Sewing machine had some serious issues. After, having it looked at by a previous technician, he told me I would have to order new parts to get my machine running. I was so bummed. I needed a second opinion and found Ron here on Yelp. He was kind of enough to stop by my home and take a look at it. Immediately, he started to get to work. This gentleman knows his sewing machines! He was able to fix a shuttle hook rod which was causing the gears to jam. He was able to aligned the hand wheel rod which was severely out of place. He aligned the post/cylinder head which was causing the needle to rub against the shuttle hook. And most importantly he adjusted the timing of the shuttle hook and needle. I found Ron Kerbes while looking for someone to repair my elderly Juki overlock machine. I decided that, if possible, I would find someone who was not in the business of selling machines to do the repair. My internet search uncovered Ron, who is in Woodland hills. I called him and asked if he would repair my machine, even though my machine(s) are household machines, not industrial models. Since he said that he could and would repair my Juki, I asked if perhaps he could take a look at my old sewing machine, which I had moved to the garage several months ago, after repeatedly being told that it could not be repaired - it was too old! or that it could be 'rebuilt', but wasn't advisable. Ron is amazing! In less than an hour he had both machines humming like baby kittens. It was obvious from his explanations as he worked that he was VERY knowledgeable. He showed me each part as he worked on it, explaining what it did and how it was supposed to work, and which little adjustments would change the output of the machine. It was very obvious that he loved the machines and enjoyed fixing them and sharing his knowledge of them. Finally, and probably equally as important as Ron's knowledge and skill with sewing and overlock machines was the VERY reasonable price he charged for repairing both machines! If you are looking for someone who is knowledgeable, skillful, will not push you into replacing instead of repairing, and who is quick and reasonably priced, then give Ron a call! I called Ron because my machine suddenly started sewing in reverse. I hadn't been able to use any of my fancy stitches for years, and I made due, but I had to draw the line at sewing backwards - that I cannot do! Ron was very nice, and explained that he does the industrial machines, while his partner John does the non-industrial ones. I called John, who is in Woodland Hills, and he was an absolute DOLL. I brought my Kenmore over to his place, and he knew what was wrong immediately (the gear cracked). He replaced the gear and cleaned my machine (it was filthy, never cleaned it in maybe 10 years). He called me a day later to pick it up. When I picked it up, he showed me that I had been using the wrong bobbins for my machine (I had no idea!). Now it sews in the correct direction, and ALL the stitches are working again! A+ for customer service, skill, and convenience. As far as price is concerned, I don't have a point of reference as I never had to repair my machine before, but it was a fraction of the cost of buying a new machine and I cannot imagine another repair shop charging me less. John is a rare treasure. I wish I had more sewing machines to repair, or knew people with machines to repair. He's a real pro and so extremely kind. If I ever need help with my machine I'm going to him- PLUS he can sharpen knives and scissors too! If you have a broken machine please call him! I have an antique Singer sewing machine that I used to make my own clothes since 1969! The sewing machine is from the 1940s! About 10 years ago it froze on me while I was in the middle of sewing a blouse. I was so disappointed! I thought I had broken it. So it has been sitting in the case for 10 years. Recently my youngest granddaughter asked me to teach her to sew. She's watched me sew on a more modern sewing machine my mom gave me back in 2016 and has developed an interest. My girl couldn't make my dog a new bed since her sewing machine was broke so I agreed to pay to have it fixed so brought it here. Not sure who Ron is but JOHN has been fixing these things for 40 years and knows his shit. Super knowledgeable, nice guy and it didn't take him more than five minutes to figure out my dumb ass had the needle was in backwards and there was nothing wrong. He gave me a nice tutorial on how to operate the machine and sewed some shit silly to make sure it was working. He also gave me some valuable intel on his homeland of Peru and even let me see his pet peacocks. I tried to lay some greenbacks on him but he refused and wouldn't take a dime. He could have easily had me leave the machine and charged me $100 to fix it and I would have been none the wiser. How refreshing to have an honest businessman not trying to rip you off. I found Ron on Yelp while searching for someone to repair my Elna. Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience as the previous Yelpers. I called Ron and he said that I could drop of the machine at his home and he would call later and let me know when it would be repaired. When asked about the price he initially said that it would be $69.00 flat fee. I asked what if it needed parts, and Ron stated that because it was an Elna it would probably not need parts. I had partially disassembled the machine enough to realize that I was in over my head. When I dropped off the machine I included all parts and also included the broken gear (which was indeed the problem). Fast forward about three days later he called and said that it actually would need a new gear and that instead of $69.00 the price would be $175.00. I was informed that the $69.00 was for something small like "removing a piece of stuck thread". Are you kidding me? So, why wasn't I told that he would have to look at the machine before giving a price? Because that's how he gets you to take the machine to him rather than an authorized repair person. I told him that I would come and pick up the machine. When I arrived I was informed that there would be a $25.00 "inspection" fee. Is this guy serious? I had already handed him the broken gear... what inspection was really required? And again, was I informed of this before dropping the machine? No, I was not. Every other sewing repair place that I called does FREE inspection and estimates. When I told him how disappointed I was he basically told me that he hadn't dicussed pricing with me ( not true) and generally acted like he could care less. He was very rude. I left with my machine further disassembled by Ron. I guess the good news is the next person will have an easier time repairing it since it completely taken apart now? Business must be going well for him if he can afford to treat customers in this manner and still be in business. Personally I would rather give my money to someone that is upfront, honest, and knows how to treat customers. BEWARE!!! read more
