Their instructor, Christian, was absolutely fantastic. He was patient, encouraging, and really knew how to connect with them. They both started as complete beginners, and by the end of the lesson they had not only gotten up on the board but also left with real confidence and a solid understanding of the basics. The instructor, Carlos, was great; while waiting for waves he explained what to look for and the best places to find good waves. As expected, he started with the basics and made sure they could get up and actually surf. Totally worth the money. Also, you can rent boards from the school (even when not taking lessons) for super cheap, like $15 for the whole day. It's about two blocks from the ocean, so if you rent one, you do have to carry it a short walk. read more

We took the family down to Central Florida to do all the theme parks and such, but having "surfed" Lake Michigan as a family before, we wanted to surf Cocoa Beach too. So, after an entire week of Disney, Universal, and Sea World Discovery Cove (and a lot of money for tickets and such), what do you think brought the most excitement? Yup, surfing Cocoa Beach with our instructor, Jullian. Yes, we went on rides in Orlando and had a good time there - but when you hear your teenage daughter (who generally looks like she can't take another minute with you), say, "Dad, surf this wave with me!" or sincerely say unprovoked "Dad, I really like surfing" it just tugs at my emotions. Larry was such a cool dude and great teacher! He gave me a few pointers and I got up and road all the way to the shore on my first try! I tried surfing 20 years ago and couldn't ever figure it out. I have had 3 knee surgeries, 1 nose and 1 neck surgery and suffer from chronic pain everyday. With his instructions and encouragement I was able to succeed more attempts than not. FIVE STARS!!! 100% doing it again!!! I was in town on business alone and really wanted to go surfing for my second time in life. My first lesson was in Bali and the instructor stressed me out HOWEVER RonJon in Cocoa Beach was a totally different experience!! Kristi (I think? I'm so bad with names) was phenom! So in love with her teaching style!! -knowledgeable -chill -kind -supportive -super excited for you when you finally get up -and just a beautiful soul YOU GOTTA DO THIS!!! Best experience this year thus far!!! I feel so accomplished being able to get up on the board 5-6 times! The beach is shallow and there are no rock nearby. Excellent! We were able to get our daughters in for surf lessons on the same day we called. They only allowed one hour lessons due to COVID, but that is all that was needed. I did the two-hour lesson with some friends yesterday, and it was great! We were all 100% surfing beginners (although we all love water sports) and we all managed to have some solid surfing experiences! They have some tips on how to best apply your sunscreen, so wait until you get there to do it (e.g., don't put it on the front of your legs or it will get all over the board). They also provide rashguards of various sizes and colors. After a safety talk, it's a short walk to the beach, where you grab your board from the back of a trailer and head to the water! A few minutes is spent on dry land learning on how to stand on your board. They have a small tent set up on the beach for parents / loved ones who aren't surfing to hang out and watch during the lesson. We all managed to get up on our boards after just a few tries, with the help of our instructors. Our semi-private lesson was merged with another semi-private so that we could have the help of two instructors, and that was great! Both instructors were incredibly nice and helpful, and passionate about surfing. After the lesson, there are outdoor, fresh water showers back at the surf school building so you can rinse off. We all had a great time and can't wait to go back! The only "hmm" to the whole experience was the lethargic guy on the phone, and at the front desk, who wasn't particularly enthusiastic or helpful providing info when we signed up and when we first arrived. But it was really all about the surfing, so we didn't care too much about that. :) read more

We had such a great time!!! It was an amazing, fun, positive experience! As first-time surfers, my 11 yr. old daughter and I were incredibly nervous, but we had such a great time and it was such a positive experience because of our instructor Nicky. She was phenomenal! She was so positive and encouraging! She gave clear, concise instructions and nothing seemed to phase her. We booked an amazing two-hour private lessons for three - one who has some surfing experience and two who had never surfed before. The office personnel were courteous and helpful. The school building is very neat and clean inside and out. The surfboards are all in very good shape. They had wetsuits that you can borrow -- all in good condition. I can't say enough about Nicky our the instructor. What I really appreciated was how she worked with my daughter. My daughter quickly bonded with her and she did a great job of assessing her and tailoring the lessons accordingly. Nicky noticed right away that my daughter was incredibly nervous, and thinking too much. Nicky gave her a lot of confidence and really helped her have the confidence to pop up to ride the waves - which she did several times. Nicky was great at celebrating even the smallest success, which was a great confidence builder. She offered great instruction on what we were doing right and what we were doing wrong and how we could do better. She made it so much fun! I really can't say enough positive things about her. I can now check surfing off my bucket list. Frankie and Jillian were awesome instructors. I did the small group 2 hour lesson and it was definitely worth it. I had never been on a surf board or any board for that matter, I surfed many waves successfully during this two hour period, even wiping out was fun and I felt completely safe the entire time. I was also helped by Tom, the owner who also just so happens to be a surf legend, is super humble, kind, and a great person. Definitely try surfing when in cocoa beach, you won't regret it! read more

About a month ago my sister's and I took a group lesson with Instructor Megan at Ron Jon Surf School. For me the whole experience was a dream come true. Even though I live no where near the ocean I've been a huge fan of the sport of surfing since I was 13 years old. Until now at the age of 24 I had never had the opportunity to try riding a board myself. With my 22 year old sister moving down to Florida from Minnesota we decided to hit up the surf capital and take the lessons. During our lessons Megan did a fantastic job adjusting to our individual skill levels and made sure we understood the feedback she was giving us. I really enjoyed having conversations with the various instructors we met and about their surf experiences. Everyone was super friendly, so don't be shy. Being a waterskier/wakeboarder it was difficult to get use to the different format of the board, but in the end I got the hang of it and the fact that I was able to do it with my sisters made it even sweeter. If you're not athletic don't be discouraged to try. It's a lot of physical work paddling out to where the waves break, but its not a race, take your time and believe in yourself! Wear lots of sunscreen (even if you have an early morning lesson) and have a friend come with a camera. Our only regret was not having someone on the beach to take our pictures. So all we have are mental memories. Lastly, Cocoa Beach is the hometown of the 11x World Surf Champ, Kelly Slater, and is the perfect place for beginners. The waves were a great size constantly pumping, set after set. If anyone from Ron Jon Surf School reads this THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Signed up for the all day, week long kids summer camp. The instructor told the kids that they would just be practicing rather than getting much instruction. He snapped and yelled at my kiddo all day and was annoyed with the kids. As well, they didn't group beginners with same abilities, instead it was all over the place. We have done summer camps around the nation, my son has never complained until this one. It was very expensive compared to other camps but we *thought* it would be a great experience-nope. It was a waste of money. Looks like the 2.5 hour session would have been a better deal. read more
