Truly a hidden gem in Fairfax!…read more We've had the absolute joy of being part of the Michuchutren community for two years now, and I can confidently say this preschool is something special. I've had my daughter in another Spanish immersion preschool in NOVA, so I came in with a point of comparison -- and Michuchutren is a million times better in every way. From the very beginning, we were struck by the warm, welcoming environment and the Montessori-inspired setup where children learn through play and hands-on activities. There's no busywork here -- everything the kids do is intentional and thoughtfully planned. It's a mixed-age classroom, and it works beautifully. The younger kids learn by watching the older ones, and the older kids rise to the occasion, taking pride in being role models. It creates an incredibly positive dynamic and natural learning flow. The Spanish immersion is top-notch. The kids not only finish speaking Spanish fluently -- they live the language every day through songs, storytelling, and play. My daughter learned to read and write in Spanish here, and watching her language skills grow so effortlessly has been amazing. The Christmas and end-of-year presentations (all in Spanish) are a true testament to how much the kids learn and how much joy they find in it. A huge part of what makes Michuchutren so special is the staff. Angie, my daughter's teacher, is beyond incredible. She is soft-spoken, kind, patient, and deeply caring -- all while maintaining calm and consistent control of the classroom. Her presence is steady and reassuring. My daughter adores her and often tells us that when someone misbehaves or breaks a rule, all Angie says is, "It's okay, you're learning." That level of compassion and respect for children's growth is rare and deeply appreciated. The directors, Pilar and Andres, are equally wonderful. They're warm, approachable, and genuinely attentive to the needs of both children and parents. They've created a space where families feel seen and supported. After two years here, I can honestly say I haven't met a single parent who isn't thrilled with their child's experience. The community is tight-knit, and the love for this school is unanimous. If you're looking for a preschool where your child will be immersed in Spanish, nurtured by incredibly skilled educators, and grow socially, emotionally, and academically in a meaningful way -- Michuchutren is it.

They were amazing then and now with a new head for a year all students have left for harassment issues, poor care of children, and confrontation with parents. Most of the guides have left too.

This is such a wonderful Montessori school! We highly recommend it…read more Our daughter previously attended a large Montessori school in bustling NYC for two years. Being used to the eclectic and energetic vibes of city life, we had inhibitions in how she would take to attending such a small and quiet school. Along with her previous classmates and guides, she was used to walking the streets of Brooklyn, taking the ferry to Manhattan, and walking to various public parks. When we arrived to see Guidepost Montessori at Fairfax, we were struck by its quaintness. The children have their own play area in the back of the schoolhouse, surrounded by a picket fence. It is intimate, yet spacious enough for all of the children to enjoy. The school is very clean and organized. The classrooms are set up in typical Montessori fashion, with the added charm of displayed artwork made by the pupils. The faculty takes the time to decorate for the seasons and holidays. The most charming and wonderful aspect of this school is the faculty. From the Head of School, the Administrative Director, to the Lead Guides, Assistant Guides and After School guides, everyone is kind, caring, patient and gentle, and respectful. They immediately treated our family as one of their own. They are the reason our daughter loves going to school each day. She has flourished under their care and guidance and we cannot thank them enough.

The teachers are so caring and prepare students for Kindergarten and all that Littles need to know! Ms. Destiny, Ms. Synthia, Ms. Vanessa and more were so sweet and caring for our Littles. The school is the perfect size - large enough that there are plenty of teachers and friends, but small enough that all the kids and teachers know each other well. I also really like that the church location is set back from the road and more discreet for safety purposes. My kids have always loved the outdoor spaces as well - even when they were in-between playgrounds. The staff is incredibly loving and positive. They contact us whenever there is any issue, but when they have had to deal with things that could have been frustrating (potty training accidents, unexpected illness) they have never made me feel bad or embarrassed. One other aspect of Rise and Shine that we love is that our boys have had the opportunity to learn from teachers from other countries and some who speak different languages. I love that their teachers contribute to their learning and growth in ways that I haven't even thought of. Highly recommend!

Our baby was there April-August 2020…read more We did visits at 4 other places. This place was the only one that would let us do 2 days a week, so we chose to go forward with them. Of note: this is also the cheapest daycare, per day. When our baby started, they weren't prepared for him. He didn't have a nametag for his cubby for the diaper bag, or for his diapers, or for his milk. It probably took them 2 weeks to get a label. I will say there is inattention to detail. When my baby switched from a 2 to a 3 for his bottle, he was spitting up a lot, so he'd need outfit changes. For some reason, they wouldn't check the diaper bag for outfits and our baby would come home in random outfits. My baby has eczema and our entire family uses Dreft soap, so I didn't really appreciate him wearing random clothes from Lost and Found, or where ever. We had multiple billing issues as well. During the start of COVID, my husband was telecommuting, so we were stopping and starting because we didn't need the daycare some weeks. They basically held us hostage billing-wise every single time. We're talking about over $1500+ in daycare we didn't need, or even use. Lastly, you will never see April, the owner, wearing a mask, during pick up. When I picked up my baby, their staff was never wearing a mask for me, even though I, myself, always showed up wearing a mask. There are a lot of kids at this daycare, meaning a lot of parents. I think it is irresponsible for their staff not to wear masks for the other adults they are interacting with. EDIT: Also, my baby was definitely at this daycare and the above happened. I have receipts. I think it's really shady they're being so aggressive just because they don't want my 1 star review public. My review got flagged for "politics" which is so bizarre. So I added specific non-political details about inattention to detail, billing, and public safety.

Thankfully there was an opening in the age group (toddlers) and we were enrolled within the week. While there was a bit of a transition time, the staff did an amazing job at making our child feel welcome from day one. The staff took time to get to know what our child needed and after a short while, our child ran to hug Ms. Jennifer and Mr. David regularly. We also really enjoyed observing the other kids sharing stuffies and offering hugs, a sign that kind and caring and thoughtful behavior is something they all see and practice. I was surprised to see some of the other reviews on here as we had a very good experience. The staff, especially Ms. Jennifer and Mr. David, really have a way with children AND parents. Throughout our time with Teddy Bear, communications were clear, concise, and timely. We appreciated the app to keep tabs on attendance and daily activities. As a household with two full-time working parents the flexibility with the hours, the ease of having prepared meals managed by the center, and knowing our child was in a safe, clean, positive, well-mannered, and engaging environment was a huge weight off our shoulders. We had a very good experience with Teddy Bear Day Care and found it to be a wonderful, professional, and caring organization and we were so pleased to have been a part of the community. Mr. David was also a great resource in explaining what to look for in a day care as far as licensing, requirements, and posted reviews required by the county. I found the transparency very refreshing and helpful. If there were issues in the past, they are working to resolve them.
