Thus, I didn't reduce stars due to the crowds alone. There was a summer camp and the largest field trip group that they had all summer (according to the workers) with every station so crowded with space and sharing-oblivious kiddos. We asked the workers if they post field trip info online so we can avoid those days and they said you must call ahead of time to see if anything is scheduled. CALL AHEAD, y'all. They also told me that after 12:30 is the least busy time of day. As a heads up military, first responders, and educators get a discounted ticket (for self, not the entire party). My UT prof husband paid half-price. The staff is very friendly and working hard to keep the areas stocked and clean. A moving target, but they did their best! ;-) There is a gift shop, an amazing hand-washing station independent of the bathrooms, STEM areas, outdoor water and bubble play, a playground, a garden, forts, science experiments, train tables, play food/nutrition area, a giant lite-bright, rocket ships, race tracks, and numerous wind tunnel/scarf tubes (totally the technical term. ha). So many areas for kids with sensory needs and everything is very interactive. We have a membership to Children's Museum of OR, and in comparison, this is much more hands-on learning than the historical feel of OR's. I felt that the Muse is a great fit for the younger kiddos (toddlers, babies, etc) with it being all one story and easy to navigate, huge crowds aside. Amazing museum. Just know to call ahead so you're not overwhelmed. We plan to go back again soon and pay extra $3 p/p for the planetarium.

Ours was about the Apollo missions. Other areas are fun and he had fun for the first part of the visit. They do have a small sensory room but other kids were being very loud, so my son could not enjoy his sensory break. The outside area is great. The downside to the museum is that it gets busy and loud. If your child does not like loud places then they will have a tough time.

Since the Museum has limited hours during the week only, Monday to Friday, we headed to Athens early Monday morning during the first day of their Thanksgiving week holiday. UGA is also on Holiday break and the upside of our visit, was the very limited amount of people on campus. As most people know and now I know, the UGA campus is enormous. I had never been there before and soon discovered that not even my GPS helped find this Museum. Fortunately, the campus staff and students were very helpful and we did finally find the Museum. It is an extremely small Museum, compared to the Natural History Museum in DC, it is miniscule, i.e. 30 X 40 ft. and the primary reason for my rating. It does appear that UGA is trying their best to develop this Museum, but, it does have a long, long way to go. My grandchildren did learn a few scientific terms and were interested in a few of the exhibits, which we were able to explore undaunted and uninterrupted since we were the ONLY visitors at that time. There is always a silver lining and for this adventure, it was the positive help received by UGA students and staff, and being on campus without all of the usual activity.

I saw the entire collection in under 3 minutes. I wouldn't necessarily skip this if you're in the area because its an excuse to drive onto UGA campus, but just be aware of what it really is... which is not much.

The kids play space on the top floor is out of this world! I was inspired to play and investigate alongside my kids! The curators were incredibly thoughtful and created such a welcoming space that is guaranteed to inspire young people and adults alike! Finishing the inside experience is far from the end of your day though. There is a whole world of exploration to be had outside! The hiking trails are well maintained and there are surprises around every corner. From art instillations, to bug motels, to climbing structures for kids to quiet brooks to stroll by it has something for everyone! The children's play park outside is tucked to the side with fencing and features water play. I wish I knew that in advance I would have packed the kids a spare set of clothes to really allow them to let loose and enjoy this to the max! There is not a lot of shade in that particular section of the outdoor space and no benches by the water (there is a rock wall everyone was sitting on to hide from the sun and be nearer to littles who wanted to play by the water) This is one of the best places for families to visit in Atlanta! If time allowed we would have came back here multiple times!! Absolutely a must do!

There's a small climbing structure that my kids kept coming back to, which was a favorite. A lot of the exhibits focused on the earth. It's like 3 rooms total, all of them in basically the same space, there's probably a whole like 4 or 5 things for the kids to do that they can probably do within 30 minutes. The admission price should be like $5 for what it's worth. The lady at the front told me there was a bunch of hands on activities for babies and I'd say there was like three. The first room was a tiny room with a virtual earth, that if you touch the screen it says it will move but it doesn't work, everything else in that room is just reading/writing (made for tweens and up) and not very fun or engaging. Then there's a room full of rocks behind glass displays, not very exciting or hands on for kids (even as an adult, I felt like it was boring). There's one little section in the room where the kids can brush sand off rocks, but it was nothing special. The room with the bikes is the coolest room, but it's very small and like I said there's barely anything to do. You can look at different bikes on display, they have like 2 or 3 interactive things you can do to learn about how bikes work which take a minute to do. The there's a tiny jungle gym kind of thing that's sub-par, a water play area that's also sub-par and a sand pit where you can look for fossils which I guess would have been fun if my child was a bit older, but for little ones like mine, there wasn't much. He had a very tiny section in the corner he could play with and then he got bored. I guess I'm a bit spoiled because we live in the Triad and we have 3 of the best children's museums. It's guess it's a good thing to do to kill time if you literally have nothing else to do with your kids in Asheville but if I knew what it would be like I probably wouldn't do it again.
