It was an emergency and they were willing to take her in and treat her urgently without an appointment and despite having a very busy day. Dr. Slaton saw her right away and was honest with us about her condition at this point and recommended what was best. We decided to try hospitalization for the day and see if she would improve. It was a relief knowing she was finally receiving proper care. They treated her as best as they could and administered medications other hospitals we took her to all the days prior didn't bother offering. She unfortunately did not respond to the medications, she was already so ill. We brought her back first thing in the morning. Dr Slaton and his team made her last moments on earth peaceful for all of us. I am grateful to now know about this practice and will be bringing my future pets to see Dr. Slaton. I wish I had brought her to see him a week sooner (and not the other places I took her to.) I know things would have ended differently. -Thank you for taking such good care of our Pepper girl

I had to have this treated that day so, after quick due diligence, I called Kanan Veterinary Hospital and spoke with Dr Maritxu Ravenscroft's Staff. The reception was so soothing, as they immediately got records for my pet from current vet and they made an appointment for just hours away. They took cultures from both ears and analyzed, cleaned both ears and treated the infected ear. My dog went home comfortable and I impressed. I remembered the feeling, so when he had a mass that opened, and his original Vet was retiring from surgery, I somehow, ended up back at Kanan Veterinary Hospital and Dr Ravenscroft for evaluation and mass removal. After making all the pre surgery checks including previous records, blood and organ functions the staff scheduled and Dr. Ravenscroft completed the mass removals in a few hours. By the way the surgery was over and above what I expected, in a safe manner for my senior best friend. After surgery, the staff sent us home with medications and prepped us for what my behavior should be and what to expect from my fur baby over the next few days. I personally really respected the staff and Dr. Ravenscroft is a good-hearted person trying to build an honest business serving pets and their owners. So, I guess you know, by now, that I will be going back for future services and I really think, if it's convenient, you should also

We have gone to Kanan Veterinary Hospital (KVH) for 8-9 years with all our pets. When we first…read morestarted going they were wonderful. They're under new ownership now and are absolutely terrible. Here's why: PURPOSEFULLY RUN UP COSTS: My dog had diarrhea for two days. Instead of prescribing an anti-diarrheal, which is what all of our veterinarians have always done, the new doctor at KVH had us buy a high-priced probiotic. After giving it to my dog, it turned her ordinary diarrhea into explosive diarrhea, which was far worse than when we brought her in. My wife and I were up all night cleaning up poo! The next day we complained and asked to return the probiotic and wanted a prescription for real medicine. Instead, they sold us a "medicine," which after we got home, we realized was another probiotic at twice the cost of the first probiotic (the first they sold for $50 and the second they sold for $100)! BTW, the same probiotic they sold for $100 is available on Amazon for $20 for same day delivery. They refused to take either as a return!!! CRUEL TO ANIMALS: The new ownership at KVH is perfectly content letting dogs anguish in pain and discomfort so long as they can sell pseudo-treatments at grossly inflated costs. They make a lot more money doing this than they would prescribing actual medicine. DISHONEST. In addition to everything else, the new ownership at KVH refused to write a prescription for actual medicine, stating they were unable to do so because the doctor was in surgery. As it turns out, after we told them we would never visit their practice again and requested copies of all our files, the doctor came out of her office to tell us we were no longer welcome. Turns out she wasn't in surgery after all and could have easily written the prescription if she wasn't so focused on selling us damaging probiotics for $150. BUSINESS IS FAILING: When the prior owner ran things, the office was always busy and it was hard to get an appointment. Now, the place is dead and you can basically get in whenever. I know that sounds good but it shows the new ownership can't retain clients.... I wonder why. We've had other bad experiences since the new ownership came in, but this review is too long and I've lost the energy for this. I end the review by stating that we brought my dog to Conejo Valley Veterinary Hospital and the doctor immediately prescribed actual medicine and my dog is doing much better. Thank goodness.

I decided to do so to share my experience and allow an opportunity for growth. I wanted to be proactive so I am thankful this wasn't an emergency. My pup has extreme allergy issues. I recently moved to So Cal from No Cal and started a new vet relationship. I explained to Dr. C what the pups experience had been and what I needed. I thought that went well. Scheduled a follow up visit to check in and review protocol as this is when his allergies take a bad turn. I specifically requested Dr c again and was told to come on a Tuesday. I arrived 10 mind ahead of appt to give them time to check me in and to be respectful of their time. First - Dr C wasn't even scheduled to work that day. It appears they may have double booked as there was another couple waiting with their pup. We both were taken to a room and the other couple were seen right away. I waited over half an hour and nothing. When I stepped out to ask if the vet tech could at least vaccinate the pup that seemed to throw everyone for a loop. Please no it is a large and appears to be quiet office. Many people seem to have not a lot going on and it appeared as if I may be disturbing then rather that being a paying customer with a request. When after standing around and nothing seemed to be happening other than just wait around. I thought this wouldn't work and left and got what seemed not of pure intent with a have a good day. If you are a parent you know what I mean when I say tone wasn't genuine. Now I am not angry just disappointed at people lack if care and kindness. I chose to drive further looking for a responsive and kind business. For me, this is not it. I was able to start service with a new vet within 2 miles from where I live. My message, be kind but expect the same in return. If not, go somewhere else. That is all we can do.

She was attended to immediately, and they quickly diagnosed the issue and gave us several plan options. I left feeling so relieved and grateful that my pup had such good care. This is an amazing place. From the wonderful techs, to Morgan at the front desk who handles everything in between, to the excellent veterinary skills of Dr. Kohltfarber. He took the time to sit down and explain everything so that we understood the situation clearly. I knew immediately that my pup was in the best care possible. Surprisingly, the cost is significantly lower then any other place, and their hours are really good as well; from 11am till 11pm on the weekends. I highly recommend them for any urgent or emergency situation. They really do care and they go way above and beyond to show you. We will continue to use them for all our pets in need. No one wants to go to a veterinary urgent care…read more Overall, we had a good experience here. Our boy Atticus was having problems urinating. The staff at Oaks Veterinary were very kind to us and sat us in a semiprivate room up front while Dr. Jimenez did some tests on our kitten (he's 12, but he'll always be our kitten). The diagnosis was Feline Idiopathic Cystitis and we were sent home with a variety of medicines, some cans of prescription urinary care food, and orders to follow up with our primary vet in about a week for more tests. Everything was pretty pricey at $1700, so I appreciated that they gave us the cans of food for free (which our primary vet didn't do when we eventually followed up). They also sent the records over to our primary vet, which I appreciated. I had to follow up with the office staff about getting copies of the records for myself and, when I reached out with concern about how long it should be taking Atticus to recover, it took about 5 days to get back to me. Those are the only reasons it's not 5 stars. Lots of parking and food places nearby if you need to wait.

I left with a verbal prognosis of "two to three months" and a recommendation for palliative management only. Her hepatic masses were described as too risky to operate on. CT and surgical consultation were mentioned as options but framed as not really worth pursuing... I sought a second opinion at a board-certified surgical specialty hospital the following week. A three-phase contrast CT and a surgical evaluation reframed the case entirely. Three weeks after the original ultrasound, my dog had a successful liver mass debulking. Pathology confirmed two malignant tumors with clean histologic margins and no vascular invasion. A third mass that had been grouped with them on imaging came back benign. Her revised prognosis is significantly longer than the original "two to three month" estimate. This review is not about the diagnostic findings, which were largely correct. It is about the recommendation that flowed from them. A definitive terminal prognosis was given before any tissue diagnosis or CT had been performed. If you are ever told your pet has months to live based on an ultrasound alone, please get a CT and a surgical consultation before making decisions you cannot undo. The diagnostic next steps available to my dog were the difference between two months and what is looking like a much longer runway. Front desk and technical staff were professional and kind. My concern is specific to the prognostic framing of this one visit.

I had to fill out some additional paperwork after arriving and then waited for a room. They are a smaller pet hospital, so it was pretty low and under-staffed. This means we waited about another 20 minutes to be seen by the doctor, which can be difficult if your pet is impatient and/ or in pain. Dr. K was really nice, though, and addressed our issue and any concerns, giving us an expectant time frame for recovery and what to see over the next couple of weeks. It took about 10 minutes or so to check out due to the amount of people there, which were only a few, and only one receptionist. With that in mind, they were fast for a smaller team, so I would just have a little more patience coming here; but then again, a lot of vets and pet hospitals have long wait times. The prices weren't bad and their exam fee was around $70 for the doctor to diagnose, which is pricy, but pretty average pricing in Westlake Village. The medicine was expensive (as always) BUT I didn't break the bank - which was a nice change. I will most likely be coming back here with my pup the next time we need something!
