I first came here a while back in pursuit of a USDA Prime steak. They routinely carry both Prime and certified Angus ribeyes and strips as well as other cuts of beef, poultry, and salmon. I have only had the steaks, and they are outstanding. The other cuts of meat appear to be of the highest quality. I have also tried their smoked salmon dip, which is excellent, and their chicken salad, which has boldly flavored chicken (grilled?) and is as good as any you will find anywhere. They also have an astounding array of refrigerated or frozen take-and-bake meals. I've not had any of them, but they look fabulous. So if you're looking for something to grill or a prepared meal for you and your family because you're sick of cooking during this time of stay home/isolate/quarantine, I would highly recommend Gate City Butcher Shoppe. They have fresh tamales here occasionally, so we are sure to grab some when we're lucky enough. They also have fresh cornbread almost always available. Beside the meat department is a tall selection of various sweet breads. We have tried them all, and you can not go wrong no matter what you choose. Additionally, they have a well stocked, large selection of Hispanic groceries and some vegetables. Beside them and connected with a doorway in a shared wall is a Mexican restaurant. Excellent selection of Arab / Middle Eastern / Mediterranean / Asian goods. They have a great variety of both the standard staples, such as chick peas, bread, seasonings, yogurts, cheeses, frozen goods, and other raw or prepared ingredients, but also have more nuanced items you might not have seen in a long time had you grown up elsewhere and moved to the US. I don't have to go and order things online anymore. Additionally they have a butcher that has fresh meats that are also halal if you're Muslim. I haven't ever had their meats, and am not Muslim, but I know where to go if I need lamb or goat on special occasions. They don't really have produce beyond some shelf stable items, but that excluded, it's pretty much an oasis. Finally, the store is kept clean, well stocked, and organized. I've never been in there with items I need missing. They recently did a facelift on the front of the store and it looks awesome, very modern and inviting. The owners and their sons are super friendly, extremely kind, even offering to special order things I ask about, and are always in a helpful / cheerful mood! I was greeted upon entry, and began to peruse the freezer and meat cases. I found some hamburger and pork chops on close-out, so threw them in my basket, along with some country style pork ribs. I didn't see any brisket, so I asked the gal who greeted me, and the man cutting meat said there was some in the cooler behind him. The lady pulled two out, both nearly 11 lbs. I would have preferred 3-4 lbs., so I cut it in thirds when I got home. The ribs turned out really well smoked and braised, and the chops were probably the best I've had in long time slow-smoked and reverse-seared. Brisket is on the grill and looking good!
