Over the years, I had often heard good things about this course located in Saginaw County but I'd never had a chance to play it. Like I had done many times before, I set up our tee time online a few days in advance. I was very impressed with the courtesy of the Pro Shop staff when they called me the morning of our round to let me know that golf carts would be only allowed on the cart paths due to a big storm the night before. That was a classy move by the Pro Shop staff and I really appreciated the heads-up. Despite the heavy rains the night before, we found the golf course to be in beautiful shape. In an area that is generally pretty flat, The Fortress has been designed to effectively utilize natural elevations to bring additional beauty to the golf course. An unusual highlight of our round was seeing a red fox in a sand trap on Hole # 16. And wouldn't you know, my ball end up in that trap! Overall, we really enjoyed our round at The Fortress and look forward to playing here again in the future. 5 stars!

Seeing it grow into the beautiful 18-hole layout it is today has been great to watch. The course itself is short but surprisingly challenging, which makes it fun for golfers of every level. The mature trees lining many of the fairways and the well-placed water hazards keep you thinking on almost every shot. It's the kind of course where strategy matters just as much as power. The greens are consistently in excellent condition, some of the best-maintained in the area, and they roll true. It's clear that a lot of pride goes into keeping the course looking great. After the round, the restaurant is a must-stop. The food is excellent, and I'm not exaggerating when I say even the hot dogs are fantastic. They also have a great selection of cold beer, both on tap and bottled. The staff is friendly, fun, and attentive. It is a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The owner deserves a lot of credit. He's done a terrific job building the business and clearly cares about the course, the players, and the Port Sanilac community. If you're anywhere near Port Sanilac and looking for a round of golf, Huron Shores is absolutely worth the stop. It's one of those places that keeps you coming back.

I attended a wedding here this weekend. Ubly is somewhere that despite growing up within an hour of…read moreit, I had no idea it was even there. That being said, it is a gorgeous place. Pulling up to the banquet center, you get all of the best views of the small town. The wind farm is perfectly within view and towers over the course. I hadn't ever seen more than one wind turbine in a place so my mouth was wide open looking at this. There had to have been 30 of them and with the way the scenery was in Ubly, it felt like I was transported into some kind of a Norman Rockwell painting. The banquet center does not look like much at all from the outside. Structurally it's pretty standard compared to other reception areas I've been to. There is a covered drop-off pick-up area for the guests, separate entrance areas for the vendors, there is a large waiting area/room for earliest guests to spend their time in, and then there is the banquet area. The banquet area is where the location really closed the deal with me. Their reception area was transformed into such a lush, faitrytale like atmosphere that it took me off guard a bit. It was perfect for a wedding. Everything was covered in tulle and low lights and it gave the entire area more of a glow versus any harsh lighting. The wedding colors were draped in cloths, covered in tulle, and wrapped in ribbons everywhere you could imagine. Being realistic, I am not sure whether this is the work of this esablishment, the wedding party, or a paid decorator. But I will say that this location threw a reception that easily rivals some of the best places I have been to. And I would highly suggest checking them out if you are considering an event near the area.
