Adrian masked everything off to minimize the dust and mess. He put down tarps on the floors to protect them. Him and his helper were on time, courteous and worked their butts off. It was so much work. I kinda felt bad because it was so much work. They did a fantastic job and I feel like his price was fair for the tremendous amount of work. After I recruited family & friends to help dispose of some things, I organized items for donation & things to throw away, there was STILL SO MUCH STUFF! (Mind you, this was a lot of physical labor over the course of 4 weekends!) On one of the trips between the storage unit and relative's house, I saw a sign on a telephone pole: Junk Removal + phone #. I called and spoke to Ruben. I wasn't sure what to expect since this is the first time I have ever called a phone # off a roadside sign. I was pleasantly surprised with the professional service I received from start to finish! Ruben explained how the process for junk removal would go, so there were no surprises. I scheduled the junk removal service for a Saturday and Junk Bee Gone would arrive between 10 am -12 pm. I got text reminders the day before and the day of the appointment. Andy, Juan, and Ruben arrived at 11 am in a truck. Andy assessed the amount of stuff that needed to be hauled away and quoted me $550 for the service. I agreed to the amount and they got started right away. It took them a little over an hour to load the items in their truck. They were nothing but professional throughout the process! By the time I finished, I had a large pile of trash bags that needed to be hauled away. I went on Yelp to get a few quotes. I decided to go with Martin Hauling Demolition and Cleaning Up because his estimate was reasonable. After I received the quote, I realized I forgot to mention that I had stairs, so I updated him. He increased the price by $100. I understood the price increase and luckily, he was available the same day and arrived within a couple of hours. However, when he arrived, he increased the price by another $100. Sweet Jesus! I was ready to cancel, but I really wanted everything gone, so I reluctantly agreed. He said it was a lot but I took pictures and attached them when I asked for a quote. So he knew how much prior to his arrival. On the other hand, he was able to park his truck directly below my balcony and ended up tossing everything over the balcony into the truck. After all, he never had to carry anything down the stairs so I didn't feel the additional increase was justified. The job itself was completed in less than an hour, and I told him I wasn't comfortable with the final price. To his credit, he asked what I thought was fair, and we agreed on a lower amount. Even so, I still paid more than I expected and more than his original quote. I would give 5 stars for being available the same day, arriving quickly, and getting the job done. I would give 1 star for the pricing experience and the unexpected increases. Because of that, I wouldn't use or recommend Martin Hauling Demolition and Cleaning Up.
