Not a smoker? Congratulations! But when it comes to this Rodeway in, to paraphrase the venerable rock band "Traffic", Light up or Leave it Alone. Non smoking rooms (a lot of them) at this hotel have NO OUTSIDE WINDOWS. Instead, you get a sealed glass square, which I guess you could call a window (and which, for privacy's sake you will certainly want to keep covered) that looks onto the HALLWAY of the hotel. No fresh air for you, my non-fired-up friends.
They do take pets, which was one reason we were there (though the booking site we used indicated there wouldn't be an extra charge for our dog--and there was a small one). The beds are comfy, and rooms are clean-- or rather they SEEM to be clean, but it's so dark, you can't be sure. The light, what there is of it, is awful. It's like flourescent lighting, only there's not as much of it. If you have no plans for the evening--relax. You'll spend at least an hour looking for light switches, which are cleverly concealed behind towels and signs.
There's a refrigerator, but that doesn't mean it's cold inside it. It's more of a representational thing. You can get another hour of entertainment out of examining what has happened to your perishables overnight in a warm, dark box.
The hotel staff were pleasant, and breakfast wasn't bad except for the awful coffee, which might have been salvaged from the rinse cycle of the local car wash. For some reason the instructions on the waffle maker (cool! waffles! something I don't get at home!) gave every sort of obvious instruction ["pour the batter over the heated waffle surface"], but neglected to mention that you had to flip the thing over---making the breakfast room a form of improvisational theater that was worth at least a quarter of what I paid to stay in this place.
PS. You won't find any photos of my room here---because for photos, you need to have light.
PPS my offspring have informed me that I may be the only human being in the USA who doesn't already know how to operate a waffle-maker. Tell it to the couple behind me who listened to the "something is wrong" alarm on the gizmo for a good three minutes before the desk agent came to their aid. read more
