Please, go anywhere else…read more Our interactions with this company ended a few weeks ago when a judge found that Skabelund Roofing had engaged in deliberate misrepresentation and breach of contract. Up to that point, we had been dealing with them for 17 months on a project that they repeatedly promised would take no more than "2-3 days." Below are just a few of the highlights. Skabelund: -left hundreds of nails and loose razor blades all over our property -left long black scuff marks on the sides of our home -destroyed flower beds -installed broken shingles after they'd promised not to -broke other shingles they'd already installed -promised us a discount on Day 5 (of the "2-3-day job") to make up for all the problems they had caused already -told us they deliberately did not "hire Mexicans" because they only hired "people with skill." -repeatedly messed up multiple sections, and in one instance had to redo the same small section three different times, with three different crews (and still never got it right) -told us on Day 29 (of the "2-3-day job") that they weren't actually going to give us a discount and that we had to pay them, immediately, the full amount of the original contract on a job they hadn't even finished yet We tried to talk to them about the discount they'd promised. Our suggestion that they honor their promise apparently offended CEO Matt Skabelund so much that he launched a personal vendetta. He started sending threatening emails, accusing us of being con artists and threatening to sue us. We kept trying to resolve the matter and pay them, but then they stopped responding altogether. After no communication for a full five months, they got their lawyer (James Jenkins of Olson & Hoggan) to sue us (in violation of their own contract). We kept trying to resolve things, and they kept threatening us with thousands of dollars in improper fees. To get them and their lawyer to stop harassing our family, we gave them a check for the full amount of the original invoice, despite the terrible work they had done, their broken promises of a discount, and all the legal harassment. Two months later, Matt apparently decided we had not suffered enough, so he sued us again, trying to extort from us nearly $10k in trumped up additional "fees." This included claiming that we owed a "late fee" for November that they had assessed on an invoice from October. In their second lawsuit, they also swore, under penalty of perjury, that we still owed them the money we had actually paid two months earlier. We had other roofers come out to inspect our roof. Every single one found that Skabelund's work was incomplete and well below industry standard, and would likely lead to leaks and water damage (see all the other reviews on here from people who have already experienced this). We were told that to fully understand and fix all of the damage Skabelund had done, we would have to get the entire roof torn off and replaced. It also sounds like our experience was not unique. Other roofers told us that they make a lot of their money redoing roofs that Skabelund messed up. And don't be fooled by their "Best of Northern Utah" awards either. As we understand it, Skabelund paid CVMG to give them the awards - they did not earn them. I have attached a few of the pictures that one of the other roofers took of Skabelund's work. When we showed these pictures to Martin Skabelund at trial, he testified, under oath, that he saw nothing wrong with this level of workmanship. Fortunately, the judge in our case disagreed. Martin Skabelund saw nothing wrong with exposed wood, missing flashing, or missing ice and water shields, so we can only assume that this is the level of care that Skabelund has been putting into its projects for decades. Then when Matt Skabelund took over and - by all accounts - immediately ran a 40+-year company into the ground, things got even worse. It's just not worth the risk to let these people anywhere near your home. You have a dozen other options for roofers in Cache Valley, so just go literally anywhere else.

NEVER AGAIN! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! I am a landlord in…read moreLogan and Martin did several roofs for me satisfactorily. But now he is old, fat, grumpy, and rude, and does not get on the roofs. The last job was terrible. The incompetent crew that did it, did not remove the edge boards that held the gravel on the edge next to the rain gutter, they just shingled over the board, leaving a dip that pools with water. AND did not flash along the rain gutter. AND forgot to do the flashing around the chimney. So when it rained hard, my house flooded. We had been told that they would clean the gutters, but they had not done that either. We thought the water dripping off the ceiling was from the backed up flooded gutters soaking into the eves, and Martin did manage to add flashing (I already cleaned the downspouts). Then the next time it rained hard it flooded the house even worse. We didn't know that they had left the edge board that created a dip that filled with water or the lack of chimney flashing until Steve Mortensen Construction was called for an inspection. I heard later that Martin's son is now the construction boss and I hear that he is a lazy dope. I did call Martin when it flooded the second time and he came out and said they'd take care of it. I asked if they could cover the roof with a tarp until the roof was repaired, and he said to do it yourself. I asked what I should do if it leaked again and he said, "Get a bucket." I realized our relationship was over at that point. Fat lazy crooked rude jerk = Martin Skabelund.

If I could give them zero stars I would! We had them do our siding, the three sides turned out…read moregreat. The last aide, his crew was in a hurry and it was less than satisfactory. We called and called, he (actually his wife on the phone) kept saying he'd come fix it. Nope!! Never showed so we would not pay. He took us to court and his friend (cover up construction) showed up in court and said "that's not the way I do it but that doesn't mean it's wrong". So the judge found in favor of him, saying siding is like hiring an artist.. just because you don't like it, doesn't mean you don't have to pay! apparently there is "no standard" for the industry . We had to pay and he refused to fix it right. So... we have a terrible job that we paid for and he doesn't care that he did a crap job and put his name on something so terrible . We also paid a higher cost for better siding that would not fade... Wrong! Lots of fading!! Don't hire this guy he doesn't take pride in his work and he's a jerk to deal with.

I was so pleased with the job Steve Mortensen Construction did on my barn remodel in Wellsville…read more The price was very competitive and Steve and his crew were hardworking and very responsive to my questions and concerns. Because he is so well respected for his experience in Cache Valley, Steve stays booked and busy, so I had to be patient and persistent. It was worth it, though, because the quality of the work is excellent and he came out personally (after he had been paid in full) to rework an area that I was worried about. If you're not in a huge hurry to have your construction project completed, I'd recommend hiring him. If you are in a hurry, I'd get on his waiting list ASAP!
