My husband and I like to get away to a cabin for our anniversary and have done so for the last four…read moreyears. The first three years we have been thrilled with our accommodations but not so for Cabin at Mountain Glen. At first glance, it looks wonderful and quaint. We were met by owner, Rose, who showed us the cabin's amenities. She even had some fresh muffins from the bakery and fresh ground coffee, something that no other cabin owner has done for us. That's where the niceties end. The cabin wasn't the cleanest cabin I've been in, that's for sure. The couch actually looked quite gross. The shower heads were so full of lime scale and so were the jets for jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. The hot tub jets didn't really come out very strong - that might just be the way they were constructed - or it could also be due to lime scale. When Rose showed me the hot tub there was quite a bit of calcium deposition on the seat and she even told me that their water was full of calcium. So, I rent a two bedroom cabin - ALWAYS. You see my husband and I don't sleep in the same bed. He has restless leg syndrome and I and an extremely light sleeper. I get awakened by every move he makes and he makes 1,000's in one evening. (Well, that might be a bit of an exaggeration.). So, I went to put my bag in the upstairs bedroom and there was a padlock on the door. I called Rose and while I'm sure she would have come back to the cabin to help us out, she didn't seem to happy to do so. She told me that would be an extra charge and so I just thought I didn't read something right on the rental agreement and I told her that we would figure something out. The living room soda was a sofa bed so we figured my husband could sleep there. Well, it had no sheets. There were no sheets for it anywhere in the cabin. That night was not a very restful night for either of us. The next morning it was quite cold. I didn't want to turn the heat on so I tried to turn the fireplace on but couldn't find the remote anywhere. My husband decided to call Rose and talk to her about the bedroom, the sleeper sofa and the fireplace. He did and his tone was actually quite pleasant. Rose on the other hand came unglued on the other end. She was extremely defensive. The gist of the conversation was: 1) there was an extra fee for the second bedroom (even though only two people were staying there); 2) there was an extra fee for linens for the sleeper sofa (absurd); and 3) they hadn't turned the gas on for the fireplace yet and weren't planning on it. Well, he told her that it didn't state any of this on the website and her attitude got worse. We did have her come to the cabin to open the second bedroom and we paid the extra fee - even though there was nothing ANYWHERE ON THE WEBSITE OR ON THE RENTAL AGREEMENT that indicated that this would be the case. (At one point, when she came to open the bedroom and make up the second bed - it wasn't made up yet - she even threatened to kick us out. That was comical - we didn't do anything wrong - we simply wanted to use the bedroom we rented.) I will NEVER rent from her again.

We found: - A clean, comfortable cabin with the kitchen stocked with everything needed - A queen bed in one room and a king in the other - A clean hot tub for relaxing after long hikes - Easy access to U.S. 51 to get into Carbondale to help move the new college attendee - A filled binder with suggestions for sightseeing and getting food - Personal attention from the owner when asked Dorothy, one of the owners, sent me an email afterwards complimenting us on leaving the place clean. We even met the neighbor in the last house before the turnoff to the cabins and she was very helpful on getting our older child acclimated to college. HIghly recommend.

There was a hot tub. Press plenty of amenities minus a washer and dryer. The best were very soft. I like how each room had their own bathroom. Cons: the code did not work we were given, and we were given a general code. The instructions did not include a cabin number, and we accidentally walked in on someone else staying in the other cabin after she gave us a generic code. They kept find bugs inside which take that with a green assault because it is out on the country. The hot tub took forever to get warm. The fridge froze all our food. I did not see an option to lower the temperature. There was also someone shaking our door on our last day there I don't know if they also had a generic code or we're confused on the cabin number if the other cabin had guests coming, i didn't tell my quest as I didn't want to scare her. Still would be a nice cabin to stay in again if they made some changes and wore more thorough and what cabin you were staying in.

This is so relaxing with a jacuzzi and the most comfortable bed with perfect pillows. We had a nice hike and when we came back the shower was perfect. You step out to warm room from the ceiling heater/fan and wrap yourself in a warmed towel. Put comfort. We were close to 12 wineries and enjoyed the long cal eatery Blue Boar. Delicious too. Can't wait to return. Enjoy!!

It was easy to find and the owner, Rebecca, met us late Friday to show us the room as we had to drive in from St. Louis. The room was even nicer looking than the pictures and had all the amenities as promised! The room was very clean and welcoming. The jacuzzi tub was AMAZING and even had aromatherapy bath gel to use. My favorite feature aside from the tub was definitely the towel warmer in the bathroom. It's hard to beat a warm towel when you are stepping out of the shower! I even used it to warm up my bathrobe, which was also provided. If you are looking for a romantic weekend getaway, this is the place to go. We were so close to the wine trail, which we enjoyed Saturday, and loved being out in nature away from it all but still close enough to get back onto the highway without trouble. We had an excellent experience!

We were looking for somewhere near the half way point (preferably along the mighty Mississippi) to stop for the night. We came across the lovely Neumeyer Bed and Breakfast in charming Cape Girardeau. This bed and breakfast really met and surpassed our expectations. The Neumeyer's are really the nicest couple that you'll ever meet. They lovingly restored their century old bungalow home to near museum condition. There is a gorgeous butterfly garden in the front yard, and the rooms for rent are very cute. They provided us with great conversation and a very yummy filling breakfast. While the actual town of Cape Girardeau was quite small it was still charming. There isn't a whole day's worth of things to do there, but certainly you could fill at least half a day with all of the antique shops downtown.

The outdoor area is also really good and has great views. you even have a bonfire. The guests here are really down to earth and friendly. This place hosts weddings and other Gatherings as well. We enjoyed sipping whiskey with them on the front porch of the B&B ;) Breakfast both mornings was a delightful surprise. Paul is an excellent chef who asks for likes and dislikes the evening before. Habenero poppers, French toast, bacon and yogurt with strawberries and coconut, along with fresh brewed coffee, greeted us the first morning. Oven roasted butternut squash, blueberries, avocado English muffins and omelets were served the second morning. Conversation flowed easily with our hosts. We stayed in the Carbondale Room, the upstairs suite. A comfortable king bed, shower and toilet, along with a closet and dresser, make up the room.
