From the Rocketboat before a burst of speed and a nice spin :)

Oh, mini me was all over this one during our recent mini-trip to San Francisco. Or rather, I was all over this one during our recent mini-trip to San Francisco ;) Add in 50% off at Goldstar and this was a must ride the first afternoon we stayed in the City. You enter the boat with about 100 or so of your closest friends and after leaving Pier 39, just take off across the bay. You spin, do oops, splash a bunch of water, go under the Bay Bridge, go out by the Ferry building, spin some more, rocket and rock some more. I was having a blast! Mini me was getting a little queasy near the end and thought 30 minutes was enough but I definitely would have liked another 5-10 minutes on the boat. Great views of the Bay Bridge and City Skyline on this ride. As for the getting wet part, depends on where you sit. People in the back got soaked, us in the front just a bit of spray. For the yelpers who rated this low because they got wet, what part of physics class did you flunk out of??? It is called a ROCKETBOAT...it goes fast on this liquid substance known as WATER. When it spins or hits this liquid substance, the water - since it is a liquid and free flowing - gets displaced and it usually goes into someone's face! For those expecting not to get drenched or wet, the tame enclosed tour boat that loads next to Rocketboat may be your type of ride. Or use your communication skills and ask where the dryest seats are on Rocketboat or look on this newfangled information service we call "THE INTERNET". All sorts of facts about the customer experience, including um Yelp reviews, will give you an overall feel for this ride. Highly recommended! They do have ponchos if getting wet hurts your feelings ;)

I frequently scour the web for deals and came across Rocket Boat tix at a discount. I looked up reviews and it seemed interesting and a good way to spend a weekend afternoon in the city. I planned ahead and specifically picked the 2pm slot as I noticed that that was a larger gap afterwards before the next show. Thought that if the crew liked us, they would give us a longer spin around the Bay, LOL. Yes, I wanted more boat for my buck. You pick up your tickets at a booth near the front of the main drag of Pier 39. The gate to line up isn't too far away from there. We lined up about 30 minutes before the time scheduled (this was on a sunny Sunday afternoon) and were the first few in line. As it inched closer to showtime, the line steadily grew, but you could tell it wasn't a sold out show. If you do want your pick of the seats though, I'd recommend going early. The previous lot came back, and we observed the folks getting off the boat. Hmmmm...none of them looked wet. Therefore, we should be safe...or so we thought. We threw out the notion of sitting in the middle as previous reviews had said, and opted to sit towards the front rows. I sat in the second row, aisle seat, while others in my party either sat in the first row or second row as well. Note - if you sit on the first row, the arm rail is a bit further to grab when you're going through the bumps. I was glad I was on the second row with a closer bar. We buckled up (it's required) and pulled away from port. The guide went over some things and we went merrily on our way. Note - our guide only made contact with us about 3 times - #1 launch, #2 when we stopped/slowed down by AT&T Park, and #3 when we got back. I was a little disappointed with this as I expected it to be more of a tour with him highlighting tidbits about the city and more commentary. It wasn't interactive at all. The boat sped around the Bay, went under the Bay Bridge, and past AT&T Park. It was fast (not supersonic fast) - we flew over some waves and did some fun turns. Some of the bumps were rather rocky - especially when we would fly over a wave and the boat would come thumping back down. Folks that are older or who have a bad back/neck may want to give it a second thought. You do get a good jostling. It does get a little chilly with the wind, so bring a jacket (and to also keep you from getting soaked!). Initially, we stayed relatively dry - we started getting splashed towards the middle and end of the ride. Watch out for the quick turns - those will get you wet. I found out what salt water tastes like and windshield wipers for my sunglasses would have been handy. The ride lasted about 30 minutes or so. Some of us thought 30 minutes would be too short, but in reality, it was just enough for us [adults]. The mix of wind and water will leave some of you with crazy hair. Be warned. Overall, Rocket Boat was decent, although I think I had slightly higher expectations. However, I'd definitely pick this over one of the more mundane ferry rides. Kids will also love it. ======Tips====== *Discount tickets are sometimes available online (Google search). *No one likes to pay for parking. If you look online, there is a coupon you can print to redeem for a "Savings Fun Pack" from the visitors' center at Pier 39. Inside this booklet is a coupon for free 2 hours parking at the Pier 39 garage. You'll need to take the parking coupon PLUS your parking ticket back to the visitor's center for validation. I saw some folks make the mistake of taking the parking coupon back to the garage; doesn't work that way. *Bring a waterproof jacket; one with a hood would be best. *Hair tie for those with long hair; you don't want to look like a lion that just got spit out by a tornado. *Leave the hat behind unless you don't mind holding it down for the duration of the trip. *Don't be fooled by the folks who come back looking dry on the previous boat. People will get wet. *The hand rail on the first row is harder to reach as it's farther away from the seat. *Make sure the people in your party are in good shape to take the ride. It can be bumpy. *If you want to hop back on for a second ride, I think they offer the second rides at a discount.

Wheeeee! :)

OMG!!! We had SUCH a blast on Rocket Boat SF the other day. It was a totally spontaneous ride as I had a coupon for it that expired that day. We were first in line and sat at the front left of the boat not knowing what to expect but were totally excited all the same! They whooped us around near Fisherman's Wharf, passed the Embarcadero, near the AT&T park, under the Bay Bridge and in the East Bay waters. Gorgeous views at high speeds, wind in the hair, and we were screaming our heads off with glee and pure joy!! Half an hour out on the water is just enough to fill you with exhilaration without being overwhelming. Loooooooooved it and we totally recommend it!!! GOOOOOO Rocket Boat!!!

the boat filled with earlier folks they went on the 2pm tour, me 2:45pm

I tried out Rocket Boat at Pier 39. You can buy tickets at the stand for Blue & Gold Ferry, they have some small signs for the Rocket Boat. Tickets are high: $27 for adult; kids 5-11 $19; Junior 12-18 $23 & seniors 65+ $23, I had passes so I didn't pay. It was 1:40pm and they said the next boat was 2:45pm and told me to line up at Gate 4. Well, the line is a little bit further away from gate on the Right and had to wait about 1hr to get on the boat. Boat can hold 100 people, if it's full then you gotta wait for the next boat. Got to be in line 30 minutes before departure. You can pick up the Emergency Poncho and I recommend you wear it because you do get wet! Even with the poncho you will get wet, your face, hair, hat, sunglasses, glasses, clothes. Not crazy drenched, but still annoying wet. It's salty Bay water so wash your glasses and don't bother keeping the poncho unless you rinse it off. You start off slow, then some crazy turns, go under a bit of the Bay Bridge, slow down for some picture taking, then they speed up more and you get wet, then back. Only a 30 minute boat ride so pretty short. Glad I did it once, The rest of the ticket stub you can keep and if you have friends/family that want to try it, you can give them your ticket stubs so they get 1/2 off their tickets. Great experience overall! Awesome and cool ride. My expectations weren't really met. I anticipated getting trashed around and soaking wet but no! I'd seen people with ponchos and one would think you'd get soaked from head to toe. I even sat in the front, which was suggested as the wettest spot of the ride. The deckhands were excellent tour guides. They kept everyone engaged and overall, made the tour a fun experience. Worth trying at least once in your lifetime, maybe not twice. You board at Pier 39 and it takes you all the way to the back of AT&T Park. The boat stations there for pictures and such. Then turns back to port. Overall, I was expecting a faster, longer ( only about 30 minutes) and wetter ride. Look for discounts where offered. The adult ticket price is around $27. A Groupon used to float around for this place back in the day. I had mixed reactions after my ride. Maybe my expectations were just too high to begin with. Really wish the captain pushed the boat harder.

Such. Fabulous time!! Radical 30 minute roller coaster ride with our oldest granddaughter first time and then grandson 2nd time. Wonderful Time. Great service. Impressive

My initial opinion when I first saw the boat was that of disdain. As a local, I scoffed at the idea of tourists opting for something so strange in a bay full of sailboats but scratch my arrogance. I am always finding ways to entertain my friends when they come to visit so after a while, I run out of ideas other than the typical journey out to the Embarcadero and other piers. I looked around and shopped the Rocket Boat idea to my friends and they actually were quite excited. That being said, I bit my tongue and purchased three tickets, one for myself. Purchase your tickets online so that you do not have to wait in line with the rest of the tourists, which can sometimes be 20 people deep. The rides run every hour so make sure you make your schedule before you head toward Pier 39. One word : FUN Well, make a believe out of me, but I have not had that much adrenaline-induced fun in a long time. The ride is for about 30 minutes and at speeds of 45 mph, the switchbacks out on the water and sudden braking/acceleration moments made my hair stand on end, not to mention getting drenched from the ocean spray. I would highly recommend bringing your GoPro's protected in a casing and leave your cameras and smartphones tucked away, unless you are looking forward to dealing with saltwater damage. And remember that they offer waterproof ponchos before the ride, you just have to request them. OR, wear a waterproof jacket. We ended up going to the Walgreen's across the street for babywipes so that I could wipe away the brine starting to form on my face. Great ride!

Shoutout to the captain for driving the boat like a pro and getting us back safely! This is by far the funnest boat ride experience you can possibly have in SF. I had so much fun! Get prepared for sharp turns, big bumps, and lots of splashing. My fiancé and I will def be coming back for another Rocketboat experience! If you're looking for something thrilling and exciting then book your tickets ahead of time on their website. I recommend paying for the cruise hopper which includes rocket boat admission and bay cruise admission.

4th of July weekend Good times!!! Even if you're a local... you simply must take this tour... at least once. It's by far one of the better ways to view the city... at a high rate of speed! I'm generally not one for doing the "touristy" type stuff, but this tour rocks! It was quick (30 minutes), which fit perfectly into our busy itinerary. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and F-U-N-N-Y! A great way to take a min... sit down... strap yourself in... and let the world pass you by going 50+ mph. Be prepared to get wet... more accurately... depending on where you chose to sit... be prepared to get SOAKED!

The RocketBoat!!

I feel the need, the need for SPEED.........and getting drenched. Okay maybe not the latter, but I guess on a rare hot summer day in SF, a ride on the Rocket Boat might be what you just need. It's a short 30 min tour but it doesn't get any better than cruising around the bay at more than 80mph!! Sit more towards the back if you want to get soaked, but regardless of where you're sitting, you're going to get splashed with water. It normally costs around $24, but if you search online you can probably find discounted deals up to half off which is what I did. But even without the deal, I think it would still be worth full price. It's a pure adrenaline rush!!

Getting ready for my first ride on the Rocket Boat

I've been wanting to do this ever since I heard there was a Rocket Boat in SF! I looked up prices and it's not too bad $25 for 30 min of speed and adrenaline out on the SF Bay but I've spotted deals before on Goldstar.com for half the price. Well, I was shopping around on Groupon a couple of months back, and I spotted it, a deal for $13 for the Rocket Boat! Sold! Now to find the perfect day to go. Rocket Boat operates Wed - Sun throughout the day starting at 12:30pm and the last departure at 6pm - There are no reservations taken and seats are first come first serve so if you want your choice of seats, get in line early. My Groupon was set to expire in a couple of weeks and temperatures in San Francisco were getting into the upper 80's at the beginning of October so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to go on the Rocket Boat and cool off on the SF Bay. From the website, they say If you want to get wet, sit towards the back. The front and middle seats tend to stay drier. I decided, I didn't want to be completely soaked, so I sat in the second row from the front. As you strap yourself in and secure all your belongings (hat, sunglasses anything that may fly off at high speeds) rock music blasts from the speakers getting you in the mood for a wild ride out on the bay. The Rocket Boat takes you out on the bay from Pier 39, out under the Bay Bridge and to McCovey Cove and back in 30 minutes. I definitely would do this ride again (save your old tickets to get 1/2 price tickets for a future ride)

It was an awesome time! Yes, I haven't had such crazy fun thrill since I was in my 20s with a roller coaster ride. So, since my child likes speed and boat, we decided to give a try. Your child needs to be at least 3 years old and 40 inch tall to ride. It was so much crazy fun. Just don't forget to wear your poncho which they give out for free and bring a small towel with you. For what? HA! You just need to ride it to find out. No regrets. It was fun!

If you love thrills, fast rides, good music, the water and a good view, come ride the Rocket Boat!!! A ride on the Rocket Boat is about $25 and the tour is 30 minutes long. Well worth it! Check out the website to get a full description of what to expect. This tour is unlike any other tour you will take in SF -- and believe me, I've pretty much have taken them all in the city! I'd recommend taking a mid day tour when it's a little warmer, but also bring a jacket because you will probably get very cold! This boat will take you on the ride of your life, going faster than you probably will ever experience on a boat ride. You will get wonderful views of downtown SF as well. You're going too fast to really take any pictures while on this ride (I attempted to take a few, but failed), but the captain will stop for about five minutes to take pictures when your heart desires. They will blast Rock n' Roll music during the ride as well. If you don't want to get wet, sit towards the front of the boat. I was sitting in the third row from the front and did not get wet -- I heard the back of the boat gets the most wet. On a side note, if you get easily motion sick, do not ride this boat because you most likely will get sick. Otherwise, go ride to your heart's content! Cheers!

We are all from the area but have skipped the touristy things. Well we sufficiently got a taste of everything on this cruise. It was properly 2 hours - passed Golden Gate Bridge, bay bridge, Alcatraz, and Oracle Park which was cool to see from the water side. While there was no sunset, we did get good weather and clear enough skies. The one and only thing we would change is the narration - it was awful, awkward, not super informative, and could use major improvements. The staff was fantastic and made for a smooth onboarding. Overall, great cruise around the bay and for a super reasonable price for a 2 hour cruise!

I cannot say enough about the experience I had on the "San Francisco Bay Sunset Cruise by Luxury…read moreCatamaran" this past Sunday. During a solo getaway last weekend, on a whim and after much research, I landed on this option a day prior, after. I must say, this nailed everything I was seeking. First, let's start with the woman in their office (wish I got her name) who was the sweetest. I called panicked that I may be running late/not at the dock before the 6:30pm cruise (as I got the start time mixed up with another provider I was looking at). She instantly put me at ease, assuring me I'd be fine. When I arrived at Pier 39, not knowing to head towards the DOCK on the LEFT (vs. through the main thoroughfare mobbed with crowds), I panicked again and called once more...but hung up as soon as I spotted the door to the dock. Later, found out later this wonderful woman had called back/left me a voicemail just from seeing the missed call, to make sure I was ok! It's customer service like this that really enhances the experience. Same as the crew on board - there I was, out of breath and barely making it on by 6:30pm, greeted by Lisa..just her vibe instantly shifted me into a more relaxed mode. The cruise is quite punctual; we departed very close to 6:30pm...but she never made me feel worse than I was upon arrival. It didn't stop there - on the boat was Michael at the helm, and Devon who was just a delight. For someone who deals with tourists/customers every day, you can still feel genuine joy exude out of him. Both he and Lisa were SO accommodating to the guests - offering to take photos, helping with snacks/drinks in the galley (1 drink comes free with cost of ticket, and there are actual decent choices! And low prices for anything additional you want to consume). Towards the end, he greeted each and every one of us with a basket of assorted chocolates. How can you not smile? The cruise itself was...perfect. Comfortable number of guests allowed all of us to move around at take photos at every angle at leisure. The route and time of cruise was fantastic (in 6 years living in SF I've never seen the Golden Gate Bridge THIS up close; it took my breath away). Seriously, SO many incredible photo ops, especially on a clear day like this last Sunday. Unanticipated chill from the winds and splashing water were helped by jackets for everyone to borrow as needed. Still too chilly? If you decide to take a load off inside, there is plenty of seating by their small bar/eating area, which I found surprisingly relaxing. Again I'm SO so pleased I chose Adventure Cat. I noticed it may be slightly more than other competitors (I paid $99) but rest assured, WELL worth it for the catamaran experience, and one that's not too crowded. But again kudos to the customer service; I really was quite impressed and hope the entire crew sees this, because you helped make this such an unforgettable experience for me.

Apparently they try to avoid using the antique boat on the weekends, so we were put on a water taxi. I was pretty bummed that they only use the actual boat on weekdays. Nevertheless, it's a quick 30 minute ride to the sea lions, and WWII ship. The captain briefly talks about the Alcatraz island, but we were quite far from it so don't expect it to come close to the actual island. He was quite knowledgeable and engaged in conversations with the passengers. He also got us pretty wet with the water splashing into the boat, which was quite fun! If you get seasick easily, this might not be for you. The boat is quite small so you would end up feeling the swells a lot more than in a regular sized boat. Note: You don't wear life jackets for the entire ride, due to sanitization costs. You get to use it for FREE if somehow the boat starts to sink. Stating this on here, because I saw some people get off when they found out lifejackets weren't given out. I don't think they got reimbursed either.

The VW bus Lillie is a fully restored gem. The tour was a great mix of history, pop culture and humor all told by a life long local. Highly recommend and would even do it again!!!

Vantigo Tours was honestly the coolest way I could have ever imagined to explore San Francisco…read more Cruising around the city in a classic Volkswagen bus just hits different. It's not your typical tour--you're not stuck behind glass or packed into a big group. The city is right there around you, and everything feels more alive; almost cinematic. The whole experience was super easygoing and fun! We covered a lot without it ever feeling rushed, and there were plenty of chances to stop, take photos, and just enjoy where we were. Some of our favorite moments were actually the unexpected spots we never would've found on our own, like the beautiful, yet uncrowded overlook on Telegraph Hill. Everything felt really natural--nothing scripted or forced. Just a great mix of interesting stories, local insight, and a lot of laughs along the way. Chad made the tour phenomenal. He brought brought great energy and enthusiasm to the experience, which made it even more enjoyable without ever feeling over the top. And the bus itself is half the experience! It's such a vibe--people smiling, waving, even taking pictures as you drive by. It adds this extra layer of fun you just don't get anywhere else. By the end, it felt like we experienced San Francisco in a way you can't do anywhere else. So if you're even thinking about it, just book it. Totally worth it!! -Mark & Gina, Kansas, USA.
