Great selection! They were very nice and while the store can be intimidating it was very good overall

The staff are so sweet and helpful!!! I went here with my group of friends on a random Tuesday night, I highly recommend :) Has a wide selection of toys and trinkets. Some of the toys were expensive but honestly, it's San Francisco... what do you expect? Very nice music and aura in the store. Definitely coming back here soon. read more

Not much to choose from and prices are very high. Water based lube is $28.95. I walked two stores down and found a much better selection and the prices are very good. read more

I've been sorely disappointed in Rock Hard's inventory and staff knowledge/helpfulness lately. They're missing some of what I'd call the very basics for a gay sex shop. See, this is why people turn to Amazon. No sympathy for retailers that are dying because they do it badly. -- only a couple of (strange) bandana colors, and it's been like that for over a year. "We can't get them since covid." ??? The other three shops within a block of you aren't having that problem! -- strangely limited selection of "rooster rings." Sorry dudes, you should have every shape, size, material and color known to man. Baseline for a business like yours in the Castro. -- don't even think about finding massage oil here. They will try to tell you that lube will work. (!!!) The staff is oddly unknowledgable and awkward for this type of store. -- beardy bear dude, you're way too inappropriate in your comments, and frankly I couldn't care less about your opinion of the dildo size/color I'm purchasing. He needs some coaching on customer interaction. Really unprofessional. -- same beardy bear dude, please learn what the damn merch is called! It's not like your inventory is too huge to learn. "We don't carry anything called a 'masturbation sleeve.' What is it?" I describe. "Hmm, no sorry. Maybe it's called something else." Later, after browsing around, I find the section of items labeled with the exact term I used and point it out to him. "Well I've never heard them called that." -- everyone working in the store should have a ready answer for "how do I clean this [sex toy]?" I mean, seriously, that should be item 1 on the new-employee training checklist. At this point, I will just use one of the several alternatives that are less than a block away. read more

Let's just say I stopped in for a bottle of something. I pointed at it and the cashier asked, "Large or small?" Large, I said. "Go big or go home," he said. Probably the last place I want someone commenting on my selections, but he wasn't wrong. read more

Nice customer service The product range is comprehensive. You can buy what you need without having to go to several stores. recommend. Because my girlfriend bought from www.uusexdoll.com I purchased many small toys from Rock Hard. My new girlfriend and I are satisfied. thank you very much read more

Be wary of high markups. Popped into "Phantom" next door after seeing "Does Your Mother Know" was under renovations, but they didn't cary the lube I usually get from Mother. The guy working there was really nice and suggested I go to "Rock Hard" next door, and he told me they were like the sister store of Mother and should have the one I was looking for. Rock Hard did have the lube but everything seemed a bit high in price. I didn't really think anything of it until I realized when I got home that the same bottle I would get at Mother's was $16.99 and the one I just paid for was $21.99. I had also bought a mini bottle and I noticed that there was another price sticker under the "Rock Hard" one. The sticker was a "Does Your Mother Know" sticker and it listed the price as $6.99. I paid $9.99 at Rock Hard. So not only did they just transfer the stock from Mother, they completely marked up the prices for whatever reason. Will not be back. read more

Great Staff, helpful, and friendly. I felt welcome and they have a great assortment of merchandise Recommended

I got to say ...this is a interesting and fun store, many interesting toy I never seen before. Definitely have a great selection to pick from. I am new to toy, so I was in here to check out the different toy put there. Only thing I wish is the people who work there should check in with the customer from time to time if they need help. read more

Pretty cool spot, I thought the name would mean it would be male dominated but it's a store for everyone. Many dicks for many different walks of life. Not much you can't find in this store. read more

San Francisco has plenty of adult boutiques, and the Castro has more than its fair share. I have shopped them all and my experience with Rich at Rock Hard has me looking no further fo my dildo, cock ring, e-stim and fetish needs. The store has enough of a range of product to have me stop in occasionally. The star of the show is Rich. I'm not shy but I was able to ask questions and share experience with him in a really comfortable way. He shared his experience with certain products in a general appropriate way. He got me excited about some new toys and didn't pressure me hard to buy right then. (kink sex can be expensive) I know he will be seeing more of me as I continue to expand my collection. read more

Great service here! We always visit Castro and this store is the most welcoming. The workers are so friendly. read more

This is a great gay men's sex shop. It has dildos, lube, condoms, restraints, electrostimulators, poppers, fetish gear and male libido enhancers. They are excellent at providing advice and answering questions. All are welcome here, you don't have to be a gay man, though you do have to be open minded. I have checked out all the adult boutiques in San Francisco and this one is my favorite. read more

My friend works here so I must confess my bias.... plus "I'm visiting my friend" is a good excuse to go into such a "naughty" place. Rock Hard has the usual toys, videos, and devices you would expect from such an establishment (so I am told) but it also has something else: great customer service! The sales people are ever eager to help you find just the right items (and will cheerfully describe all the naaaasty ways you can enjoy such items). RH also has great sunglasses, wallets, bags, calendars, and other fun gifts! So you can pretend that is the only reason you came in.... After my visit I left with a plain brown bag stuffed with all sorts of goodies!!! Now, if I can only figure out what to DO with it all.... Go to Rock Hard and have FUN! read more

I took a friend here and as with all items of consumtpion, shop around in terms of pricing (videos, prophylactics, toys, table top items for conversation starters, you get the picture). This store had an item that was $4 cheaper than the competing store down the block, hence our return. In addition, I have no problem perusing and pointing out specific items to my rather naive friend but a good variety of prophylactics. It was made even better when a couple of guys chimed in with their recommendations and we ended up laughing over some of the larger items of butt fun. The counter help is pleasant and leave you to your own devices, all good when I'm flipping over videos and thinking, OMFG (^_^) I also recommend this place as a friendly establishment in providing the community with methods of safe sex practices and to my rather more conservative friend, an eye opener in some regards. read more

Just wanted to give a shout out to Kelvin! Thank you for taking the time to show this sex toy newbie your inventory and answer my million silly questions. You made me feel so comfortable. I left feeling like we were girlfriends sharing our secrets most intimate. read more

Super hot sales guy. Holy crap. I don't care if he may not be straight, I'm going there again. Oh, and the products look very dangerous! Looks like a great variety of merchandise for homosexual males who like to live life on the edge. Of something. read more

Yes, poppers and toys. Lots of toys. This place is packed and the people are friendly.

When all hope seemed lost (3 other shops were closed or closing), on VALENTINE'S DAY?!?! Rock Hard was still open for business! Not only were they still open, but a gentleman by the name of Ian was working and he was extremely friendly and helpful. He offered great guidance and we appreciated his knowledge. This place has quite the array of products and I would encourage anyone to go take a look! read more

Very nice staff, adequate leather goods and toys. This is another place I like to browse and see if I'm shocked at what I discover. I walked into the store and saw one sales person on the phone and the other looking off into space oblivious to who just walked in. I said hi to them and they just stared blankly back at me. The same thing happened when I said bye upon leaving. Do they care about selling stuff or do they just want to look like bitches? And tell me why a jar of Stroke 29 costs 19.99 here but costs only 14.99 at Phantom two doors down? read more

Thank you to James who works here for making my guest from out of town have a memorable experience when he visited San Francisco for Folsom Street Fair. I had given him a harness and some paraphernalia but he needed some tiny briefs to complete his attire. . He bought one pair and it was too small. We went back the next day and he tried on several. Finally he found a pair of leather ones that fit. Seriously, James and the other staff there were so nice and helpful. You made a great impression on a visitor from Oklahoma. You made a great impression on someone who lives here - me. Thank you so much! read more

Came here when my friend had art on sale here years ago. His art was beautiful and erotic, not graphic, and it fit right in. This store is still attractive, and the staff, for the most part, are good if not excellent in helping you. For those looking, this is the place to look. Enjoy! read more

I choose this store over others in the city because the people who work here are always so helpful and willing to answer my questions. Other places downtown, like good vibes, don't give me the same cheery and helpful response like the boys at Rock Hard. I go in every couple of weeks, usually on Saturdays and Ian and Don always make me laugh and help me every which way they can (without overwhelming me) read more

This place was the shiznit. SOoooo much fun to browse, crazy fun books, and little trinket accessories. They had tons of (gay) porn, c'mon..it IS the Castro...but there were vibrators/dildos in the back for the ladies as well. The sales guy was totally cool with us laughing, giggling and even showed us a picture of some unnatural horsecock (not really a horse, but some dood with a really long gross schlong) tied up in a friggin' KNOT! WTF?! on the side wall, tons of lube, of all kinds, paddles, whips, floggers, chains, cuffs, beads, etc. etc. you name it, they probably have it. and def the 1st place i've seen that carries "lube shooter" a cute little syringe lookin' thing...goes perfectly with the GALLON of lube they sell for $94.99! Remember now.... "In Between The Cheeks...Not On The Sheet!" Love it! read more

Fantastic service ! I was in the market for a certain ring and Don helped me with clear information and detailed explanations. Can't say enough about the selection. Dildos. Lots of dildos. And sex stuff. And more dildos.

While Rock Hard does what it does really well, that is sell porn and sex toys and sex ephemera and sexual innuendo t-shirts, it disappoints in that it used to be something very different from what it is now. When Rock Hard opened it's signage rang true. They actually solicited and sold "erotic art." Emphasis on art. For the most part. Art meaning someone you might actually meet or know made the art. And not just the predictable prints or originals of B&W male nude photography that seems to pass for "gay art" now. But painting and sculpture and what not. Where, oh where, has the erotic art gone? I'm all for porn and paraphilia accouterments, believe me. And Lord knows we need that stuff in the otherwise homogenized pasteurized and processed Castro. But maybe they might change their sign to read, simply, Rock Hard. The over-sized Titan and Hot House and Raging Stallion posters just inside the plate glass window are "art" enough for this purveyor of porn. read more

I walked into Rock Hard wanting to peruse some of their items, but little did I know they had more of what I was looking for than I originally thought. The staff was extremely friendly and offered assistance if I needed any. Although the store is a bit small, they have a wide variety of things from which to choose. The one sad thing I realized, however, is that my Diesel bracelet looks an awful lot like some of the leather cock rings. I wonder if that was done on purpose. Anyway, a great selection and great staff. With a wide selection of lube and cock rings, you should be in for a long night. Oh, and if you're wanting to buy some Gear Essentials, they have them here in stock so you can actually see them instead of ordering them from a website. read more
