The owners were exceptionally friendly and helpful in all aspects of my stay. I was personally directed to my campsite, which was perfectly level, no shims, no boards, no jacks were needed. The only leveling required was front to rear and that was easily accomplished with the hitch jack. The grounds were clean and well manicured, and quiet hours were enforced. There are a number of pleasant walking paths, and if you fish, be sure to bring your equipment. There were multiple ponds containing all matter of species. Bass, trout, sunfish, perch, and catfish just to name a few. I will definitely be returning to this campground on my next visit to the Olean area.

There's plenty of shade and places to sit, as well as great opportunities for people watching. For Pokemon fans there's also two gyms and a Pokestop here, making it a great place to wile away the day while collecting supplies and bagging critters. The park is also home to two of Olean's squirrel statues, icons that can be found throughout the city. There are also festivals here throughout the year, including live music during the summer. Winter sees the park bedecked in beautiful lights and a wonderful Christmas display, and some of the cities parades go by here as well. Overall it is a beautiful and safe park perfect for families.

The Kinzua Dam & Allegheny Reservoir are located near the Allegheny Forest, and we had originally…read morebeen checking out various forest locations when we came by the parking area for the dam and decided to check it out. There was an impressive amount of things to see and do here! There are multiple viewing areas of the dam and reservoir area. We had come around from Kinzua Point and thus encountered the parking lot along the road near the top of the dam first. The views were great, and the dam was an impressive sight. There is also a restroom facility available in this area. A short walk from the parking lot also revealed an intriguing sign that read, "Smorgasbord Forest 1/3 mile Long Trail to Nature Center," which we decided to explore. It turns out there is a lot of neat stuff on the lower dam section, as well. There were several nice overlooks down there, plus a variety of amenities including picnic tables and grills, a playground with slides, swings, and more, and the aforementioned nature center, called the Big Bend Visitor Center. Unfortunately, the visitor center was labeled closed on our visit with no indication of hours. There is additional parking available on this lower section if one would rather drive there directly, rather than take the trail from the upper section, though part of it was under construction at our visit. Holiday Valley is the best "local" ski resort (in my case local means a 3 hour drive each way). I…read moream willing to make the drive since Holiday Valley provides a great ski day. The resort has 750 feet of vertical, but it skies much bigger than that, the large variety of slopes and challenges provides a rich experience. Parking at Holiday Valley is free, but on a busy day you may have a bit of a walk, especially if you are heading to the Main Lodge, but you can park at one of the other 2 base lodges, they are smaller but still very nice. My biggest complaint at the Main Lodge is that you will encounter a couple of sets of stairs to get to the slopes. Inside the lodge there are plenty of seating, bathrooms, rentals, ski shops and the usual ski lodge food. The Tannenbaum Lodge does provide a couple of rooms where you can leave your bags and bring your own food, which is very convenient. From the Main Lodge you have 2 primary lift choices, Cindy's Quad and the Mardi Gras Express; both keep the lines moving at a good pace and allow you access to the rest of the resort. The lift system overall works well to keep you moving and the lines at a reasonable level. This year Holiday Valley has gone to a RFID lift ticket which was a bit challenging to find the right location for the card to consistently activate the gates, once I figured it out it was pretty smooth. Holiday Valley offers plenty of challenge and with its location in the lake effect snow belt it usually gets great snow coverage. On my recent day trip I found the skiing better than my earlier trip to Lake open runs like Mardi Gras to rollicking narrower trails through the woods. The Black trails are always welcome with Champagne, Yodeler and Edelweiss usually worth multiple runs. Typically, 1 or 2 of these will have one side groomed and the other side moguls. There are plenty of glade tree skiing runs and a couple of terrain parks off of the Morningstar Express Lift. They even have a Double Black Diamond run, although it was not open this trip. For my most recent visit I took advantage of the Cabin Fever Days promotion to get a $25 lift ticket at selected ski shops; plenty of other people also took advantage of the promotion so it was busy for a Tuesday. Conditions were great, almost the whole resort was open. After a nice morning of skiing the Blue and Black runs, I did feel so good that I skied some of the moguls and took a few runs through the Happy Glades which is the first time I have been tree skiing in several years. I also did take a short midday stop at the Tannenbaum Lodge for a quick warm up. Holiday Valley consistently receives high marks as one of the best resorts in the East, it also gets more skier visits than any other resort in New York. I have been skiing Holiday Valley for more than three decades and I always have a great time. The drive there and back can be challenging at times, but that just means the resort is getting plenty of snow. If you are looking for a great day of skiing Holiday Valley should be on your list. In addition, the town of Ellicottville is a charming ski town and Salamanca offers a full-service Casino and resort.

The playground is full of modern equipment, and park benches for parents to enjoy the sunshine! On the northeast side of the park is a pavilion for concerts in the summer, and near it is a basketball ball court and a pickleball court. We have…read moreparks here, but about once a week, I like to get them out of the house for an extended period of time. So we take the very relaxing hour drive south to Ellicottville, and I bring them to this decently sized dog park. It's located right off the main road into EVL, and shares a parking lot with a fire station. It also shares property with like a soccer field, playground, and maybe a picnic table or two. Pretty area, and plenty to do in EVL. The only reason I give this 3 stars, is because the dog bags (for their poop), are located OUTSIDE the dog park. Maybe this ain't a big deal for some, but for me I have three issues, which might seem silly, but I'll explain either way. 1. I cannot leave my dogs unattended. This may sound graphic, but they will legitimately kill other dogs/animals. They aren't friendly, and they often work as a team. And with both at 80lbs., even "big" dogs, aren't that big when two 80lb-ers team up. I wish they were nice and social. But they aren't. Period. So leaving the park to go get bags, isn't an option for me. 2. (Silly to some) I personally don't want to "pre-game" the bags, and grab some before I enter. I always feel weird, especially if I'm seen doing it. Like I feel like I look like the dude that steals bags from the park because I'm too cheap to buy my own. I know, dumb, but it's just how I feel. 3. (Pet Peeve) I cannot stand the kind of person that uses a public space and their dog poops there, and they don't pick it up. I feel like the bags being outside, especially if the person doesn't realize it or forgets to grab some, is just inviting owners NOT to pick up after their pets. Otherwise, it's a large area with grass and trees surrounded by a fence. It's a dog park.

Brought the kids (6 and 4) here for a session on the Lil' Tubers hill. It was out first time here,…read morethough I've been to Colden Tubing Co. before and the experience was pretty similar. There's a belt that goes up the big hill, lights turned on/were visible on the hills around 6ish (mid-February), and after a few days hovering around the freezing point, things were pretty smooth and slick, which made for excellent tubing. It was $15 for 2 hours per child on the little hill (no charge for adults) but no one is out there policing if you're out there a few extra minutes, if your kiddos can last that long. The big hill has folks at the top keeping things orderly and safe, so I'm sure they're checking more actively for tags. We went from 530-730pm on Saturday before winter break here and it was pretty quiet on the small hill. No waiting, pick of whatever lane we wanted, etc. It was great! And the hill itself is a very gradual incline, so even my relatively reserved 4 year old had no time jumping right in. And when you're done or need a warm up, some hot cocoa with whipped topping is waiting for $4 each. It was pretty tasty too with lots of mini marshmallows! The only downside was that the walk up area to the top for the little hill, which has no automatic belt, was iced over pretty good and was a little tricky for the little ones to walk up unless they went up the far side (which they kept forgetting to do and would get about 90% of the way and then lose all traction :D). All in all, a great time and must do with the family when venturing down this way for winter sports!
